  1. Once I got to first place, I pretty much stayed there for the rest of the season, except for 1 week when I stupidly neglected the team and left Cliff Lee and Greinke on the bench. I have finished at the top of the heap despite Dipre's proclamation early in the season that my team was no threat.
  2. Fred, you spotted that he was done from when he first got sent down last season. I doubt that he resurfaces as a late inning pressure pitcher.
  3. A's win. We are up 2 games in the loss column.
  4. What roster size would be needed to accommodate this?
  5. Hopefully, the A's can close out the victory. Thank you Jed.
  6. This is a slump. That's all it is. He hadn't had a slump all year long and he was hitting at a career high average before the slump. He wasn't going to hit .330-340 at age 37. A slump was inevitable, and I am surprised that it hadn't come sooner with the lack of protection behind him. I think he will get fewer opportunities to hurt teams as the season comes to a close. The guys behind him will have to step up.
  7. A's are leading the Rays 3-1 in the 7th inning.
  8. Johnson's season has been a horror show. He's 2-8 with a 6+ ERA. Surprisingly, Buehrle is as steady as ever. I had assumed that he was having a down season, when checked his stats tonight, but I was wrong. He is having a very typical Buehrle season. For the 13th consecutive season, he is in double digits in the win column. He currently has 11 wins and that is no easy feat on this horrible Jays team. His sub-4 ERA at 3.92 is just slightly over his career ERA of 3.84, and he is well on his way to 200+ innings for the 13th straight season. You can set your clock to this guy.
  9. I take it back. you thread-making bully.
  10. I predict that three games will be played against the chicago White Sox. I like to go out on a limb.
  11. I think ORS is probably too bogged down with home repairs. E-1 has done a pop-in from time to time, but his family life and job doesn't leave him the time. It happens.
  12. With Kuroda falling apart for 3 starts, that could spell the end for the Yankees. He has been the one dependable rotation piece on the Yanks. If he falls apart, they will quickly spiral into oblivion.
  13. 5/75 is a fantasy. He is a lead off hitter who plays CF with elite base stealing capability. Essentially add 50--60 to his double category because that is what he gives you with his stolen bases. I think that he will get substantially more.
  14. Good job by Salty and Carp. now for Koji to help us bury our competition deeper.
  15. Give him a participation trophy. LOL!
  16. Speed is nice to have. Ells outran that throw from LF.
  17. I don't think kids that age should be playing organized competitive sports. They are too young and their bodies aren't ready for it. They should just play with their friends under adult supervision or instructed by adults in a clinic type setting to teach them the fundamentals.
  18. Agreed again. Three in a row. There is no birth right to success in this country and no one should give anyone anything. If you have to earn success, it rings out the best in peple and you appreciate the accomplishment. I guess I have a new found appreciation for you VA after learning that you broke a bunch of bones competing and mixing it up with your brothers.
  19. How about giving them something to strive for? When i was a kid, I could perform all the athletic tests at the highest level except I couldn't do 2 pullups, so I got nothing. It pissed me off, and it motivated me to train myself to do pullups. My Dad gave me some training tips and the next year I was able to do more than the minimum of 2. I did enough to reach the highest award level. I think it was 7 to reach what they called it the Presidential level. I can still remember the pride that I felt from overcoming that hurdle. If I got an award without doing the pullups, I never would have pushed myself.
  20. True. Agreed again. Ditka had an interesting proposed solution to the concussion problem-- take the face masks off the helmet. Without facemasks, no one would lead with their head. I think a big part of the cause of the concussion problem are today's offenses. Every offense calls a bunch of plays for their wideout to go over the middle leaving them defenseless and exposed to blind side hits. In the 60's, only the big lumbering tight ends caught the ball in the middle of the field. Wide-outs caught the ball outside of the hash marks. QBs knew they could get their guys killed running patterns across the middle of the field. Today, everyone wants to see high octane passing offense and that offense is in the middle of the field. QBs get too many concussions today because they stand in the pocket forever checking off receivers. You have to get rid of the ball. I agree that in our lifetime we will see some form of flag or touch football in the NFL==maybe just for QBs at first.
  21. Agreed. Should not reward mediocrity --- sends a terrible message and teaches nothing about life and competition.
  22. There is no protection behind him. Any pitcher that challenges his is a fool.
