I was at a game in 2007 when Eric Gagne s*** himself and a fan threw a water bottle from behind third base and it landed pretty close to the mound. Gagne looked at it in confused disbelief. I don't remember security throwing him out of the game. i think they were pissed at Gagne too.
They really had him staggering on the ropes and they let him escape. A SF would have been a run. A bloop.. anything and they chase Kuroda and feast on the underbelly of the Yanks long relief starting in the 2nd inning.
He has to pick his spots that he goes to his horses. He can't do it in every close game where we are tied or behind. If we had lost one or both of the prior two game Rubby doesn't pitch last night. He has to keep these guys fresh.
BTW: How are people feeling about Rubby after a year in our organization. He has been very inconsistent, and his bad stretches have been horrendous. I thought he might have a future with us as a late inning reliever, but despite his velocity I don't think he has the "put away" pitch. I think Webster has the late inning dominating put away stuff if he can improve his command. Neither one will break camp with the Red Sox as a starter in 2014.
I just said that I understood what you meant. Again, the comment I made about the phrase is a pet peeve of mine. It's my issue. So, let me be clear so that we can put this to sleep. It's not you. It's me.
You are right that it contributed nothing to the baseball conversation, but it was an instructive comment--- unless you want to continue making meaningless comments.
On the local NY news today, I caught the end of some story about Bobby V criticizing the Yankees for community efforts after 9-11. I could b e wrong, because I just hear the very end of the report, but that was my understanding.
