1. No glass, just a net. No restaurant. The front row is in the sun all day long. Second and third rows are in the shade and very comfortable.
2. I think we can go with 6 bullpen guys. That's enough pen depth. I'd rather do that than cut one of the position players.
3. If I had to part with any of them, Nava, Carp, Sizemore or Bradley, I'd trade Carp. Nava was very consistent last year and he plays more positions than Carp. Plus Nava is a switch hitter and we have plenty of left handed batters.
4. Maybe Carp will get traded. Nava can play Lf, RF and 1B. Carp doesn't bring anything to the team that Nava doesn't bring.
5. I disagree that they need more than 6 guys in the pen. They have a couple of off-days in April and there is likely to be a rain out. If they need to send down a position player, does Nava have options?
6. I don't think they will push their luck with Sizemore by making him play every day. I think that he will get 2 days off each week to keep from breaking him down. Picking up Sizemore's, Victorino's and Gomes off days should give Bradley very regular playing time -- probably 350 - 400 ABs. I think that he will break camp with the team.
7. Based on what I observed during my week in Fort Myers, I don't think complacency will be much of a problem. There are a lot of young guys who are busting their tails to make an impression-- Xander, Bradley, and Middlebrooks. Sizemore is working like heck to get his career back. I said it that first week of March after seeing him that he will have a big impact on the 2014 team. Victorino is always engages and always busting his tail. We have enough guys bringing an energy to the team so I am not worried about complacency taking root. Ortiz is sleep walking through camp in energy saver mode. He thinks that he can turn it on when the bell rings. I hope that he is right. At his age, that is not that easy. I don't see the signs of 2009 and 2011.
8. Crap. I am going to have to find a way out of work early.
9. Can we move this to 7:30?
10. Come on people. Join up and take a shot at putting the King of TalkSox in his place.
11. With all the blowhards on this site that know everything about baseball, you would think a few of them would want to show off their managerial talents and challenge the King of TalkSox for his championship. Cowards!
12. He has not been having good ABs.
13. The parents of some athletes are unfortunately part of their kid's adoring coddling fan club from an early age. Bad parenting.
14. Give a 19 year old a bunch of money, a car and the fame of being part of a top sports organization with no supervision and this is going to happen over and over.
15. If someone else will run it this year, I pledge to run it next year when I should have much more free time.
16. This guy Corey Brown keeps hitting. He has power and speed. I wonder if he has any chance of sticking. De La Palooka continues to pitch his way to oblivion.
17. Are we going to have a league this season, or are we retiring TalkSox Fantasy Baseball with me as final champion?
18. Workman had a good outing yesterday. That was good to see. He hadn't looked good up to that point. Ortiz still can't hit the side of a barn. Everything that I have seen and heard indicates that he isn't very engaged yet. He is complaining about going through spring training, and mentioning his age for the first time. He has always been a guy that needs 30-50 ABs to get his timing down. Hopefully, he gets a little more involved over the next couple of weeks. Right now, he is sleep-walking. Francisco Cordero is looking like a nice pick up right now.
19. Corey Brown has been ripping the cover off the ball. He hit a blast over 420 feet yesterday. What are his prospects?
20. I was very positive about the 2011 team's chances. The had a stocked roster, but I did not have a good feeling after my Spring Training trip that season. They seemed to be lethargic and sleepwalking through camp. They were not ready to be competitive at the opening bell and they dug themselves a big hole. That was Francona's fault in letting complacency set in. Competitveness and spirirt in camp is a good thing. They need to be engaged in the game.
21. In today's game against the Braves, Doubs went 4 innings throwing free and easy sitting at 90-91 topping out at 92. He had good command and movement and a bunch of k's. He madeit look easy. I think hewill havea big year. Koji threw an inning throwing nothing but strikes as usual. Mujica the same as Koji Tazawa continues to have problems with HR balls. Brown, Herrera and Lavs put together hits in the big inning. Sizemore is running well and swining the bat okay too. I think he will play a big role on this team. Middlebrooks is making contact at a good rate and hitting the ball the other was-- a good sign. Vasquez is great behind the plate, but I was surprised at how small he is.
22. Fans that go to Spring Training are the best. No pink hats, just hardcore diehards. This couple is a great example, and no, MVP, this is not a picture of me and Fred. lol!!
23. I am not quite sure what is going on with Peavy. He cut his non-pitching hand and he doesn't have to bat. So why are they making such a big deal about it opening up etc? Stitch him up and send him out there. I am starting to think that his reputation as a gamer is overblown.
24. And it would be justifiable.
