  1. Mosox, here is what aggravates me about Francona's managing last season. Even though you probably won't agree with me, I'm of the firm belief that he outmanaged three very outstandingly rated field generals in the Playoffs----Mike Scioiscia, Joe Torre, and Tony LaRussa. In my opinion he did--with his defensive moves, his pinch running moves, his use of the bullpen, and so on. Last year he appeared to me anyway to be a cruise control, and he became very stubborn is his insistance on keeping Millar in the lineup and his constant use of Embree, even though the latter was giving up walk off homers by the carload.
  2. Even though I despise the Yankees with unmitigated hatred, I have to hand it to you 26-6 because of your real passion for your team. I love seeing that in baseball fans. I might go one better. Sure, Torre should have bunted on Schilling in that 6th game; a blind man should have seen it. However, remember Grady "f***in" Little keeping Pedro in there in the 8th inning when everyone in Red Sox Nation knew he was a glorified BP pitcher after he had thrown 100 pitches or more in a game (something like a 370 average). So maybe you owed us one. I still think the 2003 ALCS Playoffs took so much out of the Yankees that they gave less than a full effort against the Marlins. It looked like to me anyway.
  3. Riverside, do you have to be a slaggot? Why whet my appetite for seeing something of NESN when I'm way out here in California and can't see it. Remember, there are a lot of us Red Sox fans who live far away and can't see those shows. Please, my friend, show some consideration for us "foreigners" You can earn some points, though, by keeping me informed as to what transpires on NESN over the next couple of weeks. I'm going to try and call my cable company and see if I can get NESN on my TV.
  4. MC Hammer, I didn't know you were a Pirates fan, so I concede you know more about them than I do. Hard to believe Tracy could be worse than the guy you had, but, then again, Jim was sort of hemmed in by their stupid owner, Frank McCheap and his squirty wife Jamie, and GM Paul dePodesta who was just in it over his head. I think Littlefield is a much better GM and he knows Tracy very well. Besides, Littlefield was a star baseball player about five miles from where I live and remember him as a great high school pitcher.
  5. Bobby Cox would be my choice because he wins all the time with new players and talent. Oh sure, of those 14 Divisional Titles he has won only ONE World Series (1995), but his teams always get better as the regular season progresses and I'm sure if we could win 14 divisional titles in a row we would take it because the Red Sox would win more than one World Series on a run like that. I've come to believe that Tony LaRussa is very overrated. If you watch the 2004 World Series, Francona completely outmanaged him.
  6. Choosing between the Pirates and Royals for the worst team is like choosing between dog food or cat food to dine on. You're going to puke with either choice, but since I am a Red Sox fan I would rather diss the Pirates than the Royals. We have to face those guys and I would just rather let sleeping dogs sleep. Besides, the Pirates now have Jim Tracy as their manager and he is simply one of the worst ones around. The guy is a real stumblebum as he proved with the Dodgers, and all the Jason Bays and Craig Wilson won't help him at all.
  7. Hey R Slugger, what do you say if he both ask the Red Sox to just go for it and get Doug back where he belongs? The Padres apparently think he is still a reserve type catcher since they got Piazza and have a young catcher ready. Hell, if I were Doug I would much rather be in Boston with our maniac fans than those laid back boring fans in Dago.
  8. KS, hold your ground on that one because you are absolutely right. I think too many of our Red Sox buddies on this board and others have been so traumatized by Renteria's stinking performance last season that now many of us think anyone coming over from the other league is going to take eons to make the adjustment. Loretta is a completely different bird than Rent-a-Wreck. Loretta would be at home at Fenway, Harvard Yard, or the Kennedy School of Govt. He is a complete package of talent and class.
  9. Clay, if you weren't a Red Sox nut like me I would say you are full of @#$% with those predictions, but if you turned out to be right I might just be tempted to fly cross country just to give you a big hug and the greatest dinner you ever had, wine and all. Look, if those are the stats our players get this year I can tell you we'll be in the World Series. Our pitching should be very much improved over last year, especially in the bullpen, and that is one hell of hitting machine you put up there.
  10. Yankee man, I despise Johnny Damon for what he did to Red Sox Nation, but in no way to I want any physical hurt to come to him. My wish is that he stay completely healthy and still have a crappy year as far as playing goes. I never wish anyone physical harm but having four miserable years with this new team? Well, that would be music to my ears.
  11. Riverside, mark my words. You will like Loretta and think we 95% of the time we got a deal of the year in getting him. The other 5% of the time you will be cursing your fool head off as you wonder why we have a stiff catching Wakefield when we had the best reserve catcher in baseball handling his pitches. I guess you have to give up talent to get talent. I don't know when Mirabelli becomes a FA but I sure would love to see him back in Red Sox red as soon as we can make it happen.
  12. I'll tell you guys this: I had better not hear of any "Loretta sucks" nonsense. The guy is a solid and classy ballplayer who knows how to play the game and be a greate teammate. He will do just fine---and after Renteria last season just about anybody would be an improvement in the middle of the Red Sox infield.
  13. Stocker, that is what I have usually thought, but with all these rumors I've been hearing out here (So. Cal) I'm reminded of the old saying---where there' smoke, there's fire." In my opinion it would be very foolhardy to trade Manny now especially since we tried and never came close to getting anything close to equal value for him.
  14. Now if we can only convince the Front Office to cease and desist from their attempts to trade Manny we can get on with the business at hand and prepare for Spring Training and get ready for a big 2006 season. :harhar:
  15. Come on Ky, stop beating around Robin Hood's barn; weigh in with a prediction of your own. You have nothing to lose. Is Crisp going to be better for us his first season than Johnny Damon was in 2002?
  16. To be fair to Joe Torre, he has won Four World Series titles. As much as I despise the Yankees that is nothing to sneeze at. Besides, working for George Steinhitler isn't a walk in the park. It is almost hard to even comprehend the s*** Torre has had to endure working for that piece of @#$%^&.
  17. Well then Ky, the hell with the Angels. They are looking at falling through the cracks this year because of a rotten offense. Oakland and Texas are vastly improved and with a pop gun attack my wife, daughter and son-in-law's team are going to find out the hard way that they should have been a little less reluctant to make the trade. Besides, we want Manny here anyway. As for their sneaky and cheap GM, Bill Stoneface, I would advise him to get his resume ready because Arte Moreno will not stand to see his team fall from first to second or third because the GM was too lax to make the changes needed.
  18. Hey guys, if you look carefully, Damon wasn't that much of a ball of fire in 2002 and 2003; decent numbers, yes, but nothing like 2004 and 2005. I think Crisp can best Johnny's numbers his first two years with the Red Sox. It all comes down to how he adjusts to a great hitter's park and whether he can handle the pressure of playing in Boston. My money says he can and ahe will.
  19. Nipper will do ok. His track record was very good so we are in good shape there. I think all of us are anxious for the pitchers and catchers to report in a week so we can see for ourselves just how much better our pitching is going to be this season. That and a decent defense to go along with a good hitting attack should pay off for us this season. At least that is my opinion.
  20. KY, yes, we should wait until the season is underway to bash him. Nah!!!!!!! Let's give him the benefit of the doubt. He did win a World Series, and whether it was because of him, nothing to do with him, or in spite of him, he still won one. I think a lot of the criticism he got last year was because of his incessant use of Millar and Bellhorn on the right side of his infield when they just were not doing the job and were becoming more liabilities than assets. That, and his continuous use of Embree and Mantei when they were getting lit up like Christmas trees. Of course, he was short in the bullpen all last year so that may not have been all his fault. He probably could have used Papelbon more when he was brought up, though. Perhaps DiNardo as well.
  21. John McCain is the man and he or Rudy is my choice in 2008. Uh oh, I did mention a Yankee fan. Shame on me. Then, again, why are we even talking about politics. As much as don't care for John Kerry, he is, after all, a Red Sox fan---unless he has flipped flop on that one, too. I used to despise Ben Affleck. No more, he is one of us. What I am saying is that when you are a Red Sox fan, to me nothing else in your bag of ideas means anything to me. You are a brother-in-arms. We are a special breed no matter what our politics may be, and I think on this I am not alone with these thoughts.
  22. Pat, you just might a tad overboard with Ortiz. Man, let's not drop the house on him. He is not going to his 58 homers, but I will concede that Nixon, Varitek, and Lowell are all due to hit around 25 homers if they stay healthy, and it is possible one could hit more. As for Youk, if he gets enough at-bats he could hit between 15-20. He needs to play.
  23. Since I'm kind of elder statesman around here, or is it an old war horse, can I please implore you guys to quit this pissing contest. Let's talk Red Sox baseball, pro and con and show some respect for each other. I think this may be why the Boston Herald Forum Board went by the boards. There seems to be more anger and bile the past two weeks than there was when I first came on board. Let's get back to being civil one another. Hopefully, no one thinks I'm stepping out of line.
  24. Very good my friend. Your on. Does $25.00 sound modest enough for both of us?
  25. Rivernator, I have seen Loretta play for a long long time and I still hold to my strong belief that he is going to have a stellar year for us. How about we make a bet than my guy outhits your second baseman this year and has a higher fielding average?
