  1. City and Crunch, Jacoby Ellsbury is moving up the ladder fast and there is no way we can keep both Crisp and Ellsbury, and Crisp has to be the one to go. He has failed. PERIOD!!!!!! And don't give me any crap about his injury. He has been back in gear for a long time and he has only gotten worse as the season has worn on. He could help us get a decent pitcher or a reliever, and until Ellsbury is ready Pena can handle CF with Hinske or a resigned Nixon patrolling RF. I have seen enough of Crisp and everytime I do I get madder and madder than we lost Damon to get this bum.
  2. Schill, I don't think you have to worry about that. Tek is going to be connected with the Red Sox for a long time and it wouldn't surprise me if he becomes their manager some day. Wagner will have one helluva teacher and with his ability we will be set at catcher for a long time.
  3. Example, well this post you ought to like unless you are nuts and ignorant about baseball. We forget Meche and go out and spend some good money and sign Jason Schmidt and Barry Zito. Stop this crap by trying to stop a heart attack with a cough drop. Go out and spend some good money and get ourselves two horses that can really make a difference. Then we put Wakefield in the pen, and trade for a good set-up man. Resign Loretta and put Pedroia at shortstop so we don't have a weak bat at the keystone and hope for good health from the rest of the team. Who do we trade for relief help? Crisp, a chronic disappointment this year but one who still has some saleable value. Another crappy year by him and can of pork and beans will be about all we can get for him. Besides, Ellsbury is almost ready and he is our CF for the next dozen years maybe starting by the middle of next year. In the meantime Wily Mo can handle CF.
  4. I care about Abreu. I saw him this weekend and the guy is some hitter. I wonder how many of those give games we lost to the Yankees we would have won if he had him on our team. I think about three of them. I do see your point, though.
  5. We're done and I think most people beside Jsing and SeaBeachFred know that. I only hope we don't get swept in Oakland just to save our sanity. Some of the players on our team should be sent away post haste, but my question is who would take them and what would be get for them?
  6. Sweet Chin Music, the verdict is the front office right now doesn't know how to fart and chew gum at the same time. Who knows what they're going to do? They don't even know. Today we saw the spectacle of seeing Mark Loretta, a good hitting and fielding second baseman, playing first, and Alex Cora, who should be a utility man and nothing more, playing short. What the hell are they thinking? Put Pedroia there. It is his natural position and he and Mark would make a good DP combo next year. It sure as hell can't be that they are going to try and resign the hitless Gonzales when their offensive attack looks as weak as it has been since the 60's. Then again, I said they didn't know what they were doing so, again, go figure.
  7. 700, I've been rooting for the Dodgers this year for the first time since they left Brooklyn and it looks like I will be taking in many of their games as the season wears down. It is obvious the Red Sox aren't going anywhere, but the Dodgers have been a very hot or very cold team and it is hard to project where they are going to finish. If they play the way they're capable they should start pulling away from the division, but everytime they see a Padres uniform they get a case of the shakes----and they haven't been too swift against Arizona or Colorado either. They could still play better than they have.
  8. E-z, I was at Angels Stadium today and saw for a moment Damon and Cabrera talking to each other at second base after JD doubled to open the game. I was trying to think what they were talking about, like "how about those stupid Red Sox letting us get away." At that moment I had a real hard on for Theo for his stupidity in getting rid of these players and picking up some inferior talent to take their places. That is partly why we are in the outhouse today.
  9. Kent is signed for next year with an option in 2008 which Colletti is certainly going to honor. That means the Dodgers have a surplus third baseman in Andy LaRoche who I think just might be the odd man out in that organization. I think it would be terrific if the Red Sox could put together a trade to get that young man to Boston. The Dodgers still have Betemit and he should be good for a number of years. As for our farm system we have some guys like Mark Wagner, Jed Lowrie and Jeff Natale who are in "A" ball and project as good prospects.
  10. Crespo, since I take it you're a ladies man, be advised that Ryan has a very attractive young wife. A gorgeous girl. I met her on the golf course at Fort Myers the last week of spring training and I was so impressed with her demeanor that I shanked a shot on the third tee of a very doable 155 yard Par three. Wound up double bogeying it. What does that have to do with pitching? That's my point. It doesn't have diddly s*** to do with it. If he can do the job fine; if not, well we don't need him to gum up the works as some of the others have done up here. I have heard, however, that he rates a little higher than you have stated.
  11. Let's not rush Wagner. Tek has two more years for us and could be added on another one. In three seasons Wagner will be ready and we could be set at catcher for a long time. Besides, don't we have a guy named Egan who projects high as well? I'm more concerned with seeing some of our supposed great young arms coming up and winning some games for us within the next two years. I just hope they have good pitching coaches on the farm because except for Papelbon the ones we brought up this year have been less than stellar.
  12. Jsing, we had better hope that he is a better player than you say because I think he is going to see a lot of action next year and the Red Sox are commited to him. I wish he would return to the promise of his rookie year but I saw him during the Angels series and for a guy who likes the ball low, he has a very nasty habit of swinging at high pitches and missing them a mile. Papa Jack??? He had better start working on this guy. I'll tell you this; he is no Bobby Abreu.
  13. 700, I have always been a Nixon fan as you could guess from reading my previous posts. I think an incentive laden contract of two years could bring him back to the Red Sox. Look, Pena and his wrist could be problems for us in the future. These things have a way of proliferating. I just do not want to see Crisp on this team next year. He is a lousy reminder of who we lost and who took his place. Damon is hitting 302, 22 homers and 73 RBI's for the Yankees. Crisp is hitting 266, 7, and about 28 ribbies. I think the difference is staggering. Get Coco out of Boston and to a city where the fans are blase and he will do better. Cleveland was the perfect place for him to hide between Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner, Victor Martinez, and Jhonny Peralta. Here he sticks out like a sore thumb at the top of our lineup where he has failed miserably.
  14. 700 Hitter, since I haven't been on this board for three weeks I guess you were not talking about me. Yes, you are right. This wrist thing with Wily Mo is a real concern to me and it should be to the rest of us. These things have a tendency to get worse before they get better and a power hitting outfielder who has a bad wrist not only loses a lot of power but when you combine that with his strikeout totals you have a massive problem. However, I thought Nixon would be back now. How bad is he really hurt?
  15. JSing, 0 for 15 with runners in scoring position in the first game. Can it get any worse than this? I sure as hell hope not.
  16. Crespo, do you post on some other team's board? Just want to know. BTW, isn't this a stinker game today? Man, this is no way to start a five game series.
  17. Very true Roy, but it didn't seem to bother him last night---and that's just my point. We now need this guy in the fifth spot in the order. We know he has light tower power and we can now bat three of the best power hitters 3-5 that could be unmatched in the league.
  18. Schill, they may move Wily Mo up to fifth spot in the order now. We can still worry about his strikeouts if we wish and he will strike out, but he is doing it less and less and he is hitting for both average and power. He had one great game last night. I don't want to add any more pressure to the guy but I think they can take a chance and put him in the #5 hole starting tonight. If he does what he's capable of doing and what he has already done in his limited appearances, he can give us a devastating 3-5 combo unmatched in the Big League and at the same time give Manny some protection just in case they decide they want to pitch around him.
  19. At the risk of putting my foot in my mouth it finally looks like Coco Crisp might be coming out of his offensive doldrums and if so not a minute too soon. Pena hasn't seen much action recently and I wonder if it is because Tito knows what an adventure he is in right field. As much as I love Gabe Kapler, Pena seems a better offensive threat than him, yet it is Kap who is in right field when a left throws.
  20. Pretty damn good post Prop. I still have deep reservations about Wily Mo Pena, however. He cannot play right field at Fenway and he couldn't play it at Cincy and he has those enormous strikeout totals to consider. Right now all I am worrying about is this season which Francona is trying to piss away with his throwaway games like today when he rests players even though there is a day off tomorrow. I still think there will be a trade but only hope that Theo makes the right one and doesn't do something to bum our chemistry and the balance we've stuck this year.
  21. I SAW this guy with my own eyes. He is terrible in the clutch, runs the bases poorly and is not a very smart player. Beleive me Choi would be booed out of Fenway if winds up playing there. Besides, he was a Dodger reject; you don't take rejects from other teams.
  22. You were doing a pretty damn good job until you suggested that Hee Seop Choi could be our first baseman next year. You have to be absolutely nuts to even suggest that. I saw this guy for the better part of two seasons out here in LA and take it from me, he sucks big time. He strikes out in record numbers, is rotten in the clutch, is hitting very poorly down AAA Ball, is a poor fielder and a dumb base runner. He is, in short, a loser. As for Abreu, he has hit exactly 14 homers since last July. He is no improvement over Nixon and is an attitude case of the first order. Aside from that, not bad.
  23. I think in the Wily Mo vs Kapler scene, Francona knows that Pena is a brutal rightfielder and may be afraid of putting him that spacious Oakland outfield for fear he might butcher some balls. I would chance it because Kapler is in a bad slump and we can use all the hitting we need in this coming series against the A's and the next one against my wife's Angels. Why did we get Pena for if we are not at least going to give him a shot at playing against lefthanders?
  24. Although I worry about Wily Mo Pena in the outfield and his seemingly inability to play right field, something Gabe Kapler does very well, my idea would be to DH Manny tonight to rest his knees, put Big Papi on first, Youk in right and Wily Mo in left. Either that or play Pena in center and give Crisp a chance to get his crap together. Pena might give us some fire power we need in the next few series' coming up.
  25. Manny, it can't happen soon enough for me. I think all this stuff about Nixon failing and should be traded would stop immediately if he would start banging out some doubles, singles and driving in a bunch of runs. It would also help if Coco and Manny could get their s*** together in the outfield. Needless to say the Red Sox are my first love by far, but I have been rooting for the Dodgers in the NL for the first time since they left Brooklyn and they are really playing crappy right now, so you can bet yesterday was a real bummer all around. I expect both teams to win tonight.
