  1. I'll drink to that Thumper, but I'm just concerning myself with Schilling and today. One game at a time remember?
  2. Crunch, I'm going to tell you something that I have repeated endlessly on the Dirt Dogs Board. Simply put, in my opinion it will take another World Series Title to completely validate the Red Sox and their fans as MISSION COMPLETED. Why? Before we won it all in 2004, all we kept hearing from our Yankee friends was 1918, 1918. 1918, ad nauseum. Now we still hear some of the same crap, only it is "86 more years before another title". That pisses me off more than the 1918 nonsense. When we can pull that title off it will shut everyone outside of RSN up once and for all.
  3. Though you might tend to disagree, I think Cat would have looked pretty damn good in a Red Sox uniform this season. I still don't understand why we didn't even make an attempt to sign the guy. I mean I would rather see him patrolling the OF as our 4th OF than the clueless Wily Mo Pena.
  4. Curious to know what your post was referring to about the "So we won?" Too lazy to peruse all the posts to find out. Clue me in will you? And why is Cattalanato a f***ing ****? Did he do something bush league out there today that I missed?
  5. :D :D John Kruk seems to be saying the same thing Crunch so you're not alone in your opinions. I do believe they are missing Sheffield more than they realize and, no, this is not 1978 because for one thing I am a Red Sox fan now and could not endure such a collapse as occurred back them. I also think this year's Red Sox edition are made of sterner stuff. Witness Daisuke on Friday night. He was heaving in the dugout between innings but he gutted it out long enough to keep us ahead and pick up a win in the process. That sort of stuff rubs off on the rest of the team. Today Drew and Varitek got key hits and J.D. had a multi-hit game for the first time in weeks. We need more of that and we need Lugo to start doing his stuff as well. As you know we could still use some improvement because that is the only way you stay on top. However, my friend, I'm still not ready to write off the Yankees are you are. Four more months to go. :D :D
  6. Thanks Yank!!! However, be advised that this Red Sox fan still does not think this thing is over, not by a long shot. What I do like is that with our lead getting wider it does put more pressure on your team to mount a comeback, but I remember back in 1978 when I was NOT a Red Sox fan and called them a pack of losing choke-ups the way they blew a 14game lead from mid July on. It always could happen again. It could happen to anyone and that is why this retired coach still shouts for all to hear "ONE GAME AT A TIME", and I know most of my Red Sox friends here say the same thing. You take away two innings the last two days and Wakefield and Taverez pitched some pretty darn good ball, and it will be nice to get Beckett back in tow soon. Every little bit helps. I don't know what it is but the Angels really seem to have what it takes to cause your team all sorts of trouble. Amazing how one team can just be a big pain to another club but it seems to happen to a lot of teams. The Blue Jays have been our foil the past two years as I'm sure you know.
  7. Try and tell me you're not sky high right now Schill.....Was this a great weekend or what? I would have been pleased as all get-out if we could have picked up a game on the Yankees over the weekend but to pick up three???? I know the Texas Rangers are not one of the elite teams in the league but they have plenty of firepower and can cause havoc on a pitching staff and that is why being able to come from behind three times in a row has got to be a tonic for our team. If it isn't they don't have a pulse. Maybe they don't either because they seem to never be worried about anything. I would be the last one to ruin any mojo by saying it but it is just possible this is going to be our year????
  8. Though it is usually hard to pull off the hat trick on the road we certainly are capable of doing it. Looks like the Yankees and Angels will have a real close game today and that can go either way. Let's do our business and come out of this Sunday with smiles on all our faces.
  9. Crunch, "DEEP THINKER"?????? I guess to mean Tal. When it comes to baseball I usually let my emotions run rampant on me, especially if it is about the Red Sox. It looks like a good game is shaping up at YS today. Mike Mussina and John Lackey seem to have their stuff today. Let's hope that Julian has his and we give him enough support for him to win again this afternoon in Texas.
  10. Tal, I'll leave it to you to diss the Bronx sewer rats as you put it. I have learned over the decades not to diss the Yankees and never underestimate them. Yes, if we play our best we will win this year but we have to play like that most of the time. I really hope you hit the nail on the head with the Yankees this year but it is still too early for me to make any long range predictions. Melville???? He was a good author and I've always like him, especially his "Moby Dick". I used to write for the junior college and university papers when I was a student, and also wrote for a local paper until one day I was hired as a Recreation Leader and decided I wanted to work with kids as a teacher and coach. I guess I still have a little of that writer in me. Thanks for not saying Hawthorne. He is one author I have never liked. He was very anti-Lincoln during the Civil War and a staunch opponent of our greatest President and my personal hero. Of course, sometimes on this board if you are not clear in what you say some people misinterpret your words and then you catch hell for it.
  11. Ted, it is after the fact but I have to tell you that I had Tito figured out the last two games. The Yankees lost two in a row to the Angels and we had a chance to pick up two games with wins over the Texas Rangers. Francona went for it and it worked. Tomorrow we have Okajima for a couple of innings, but I wonder who else we can depend on after Taverez throws his usual five or six innings? It would be great if Julian can go seven and keep the bullpen from getting overworked. No Papelbon tomorrow. Hopefully Lopez can hellp the cause and maybe Snyder. No Pineiro, though. PPPLLLEEEAAAASSSSEEEE!!!!!
  12. yeszir, I can speak only for myself but I'm still sort in a daze that we have driven out so far in front thus far. I would imagine some others are just as shocked as I am at the current turn of events. Is this really a 1965 or 1982 year for the Yankees? I refuse to believe that and when they get Hughes and Clemens they ought to be able to give us a run for our money. That is why this lead is so important; more importantly, we have to get our pitching fully healthy and ready for June and the summer. The problem is that there are so many good American League teams. You know what???? If the Red Sox were playing in that other league I would be inclined to tell the other teams to pack it in, but we're not so we have to keep chugging along one game at a time and, as I've said before, put as much distance between ourselves and the Yankees as we can. :D :D :D :D
  13. Jackson, if I didn't like you I would tell you to go to hell. Don't try sandbagging me or any other Red Sox fan. This thing is NOT over, not by a long shot. That is why I keep saying put as much distance between us and the Yankees as circumstances would permit. Yes, it will add a lot of pressure to the Yankees to get their game in order, but, hell, this is only May 26th. No sir, this is still very much wide open and I again implore the Red Sox to take it one game at a time and keep putting us much distance as we can between us and the Yankees. We might get an assist from George Steinbrenner because he is clearly unhappy and can start to turn the screws if things don't change for his and your team, but, then again, I remember how his diatribe in 2005 turned things around for the Yankees, whether it was coincidence or not.
  14. You know Red, when I coached baseball all those years I used to try and throw that damn knuckleball in batting practice, and I couldn't do a damn thing with it. When I played I had a good knuckle curve which I could control well but, of course, it was not held by the fingertips. One bad inning??? Well, it doesn't have to hurt if we back up Tim the way we came back in the sixth inning. :D :D :D :D
  15. You're watching my back Riverside and I have to give kuddos to Tim because he righted the ship and gave us seven quality innings. Thank goodness our offense woke up in the sixth to bail him out and give him a chance to win the game. Face it Riverside, no matter what we say about our hitting, whether feast or semi-famine, if we can get the good solid pitching it will be the key to us winning this year. Eleven-and-a-half game lead is very very good even though my wife says I'm never satisfied. However, I keep saying that we have to keep putting as much daylight between us and the Yankees as we can manage, and not just for our benefit. It is also for the discomfort of the Yankees as well putting more and more pressure on them to turn it around. Still a long way to go but so far so good, and I'm getting the impression that this season the Red Sox mantra IS one game at a time. Tomorrow, no Papelbon so we have to have Okajima and Lopez ready. Pray tell, we don't have to call on JoEL, though.
  16. Why is it that Wakefield always seems to have that one bad inning when he gives it all away? He can't keep doing that, especially since he has his own personal catcher who is a guaranteed O-fer just about every time he plays a game. The hitters better get it strapped on very soon. We can sure use this game.
  17. Hey guys, it is all there right in front of us tonight. The Yankees lost and we have a royal chance to pick up another game on them if we can pull off a win tonight. Tim owes himself a good game and we need one from him to keep all this mojo working. Wins in May count as much as those in September and the more distance we put between ourselves and the Yankees the better it is for us and the tougher it will be for them to make up that ground. A win tonight will go a long way to giving us the edge we need to take the AL East for the first time in 12 years----finally.
  18. Glad most of you guys out there aren't taking this one too hard. I had a bad feeling about this game myself and hope we can right the ship the next two days. I wish Curt Schilling was pitching tomorrow instead of Wednesday. He loves pitching in YS and is a money pitcher when we need him to be, but I guess we have to hope that Julian steps up with the heavy metal again. I might suggest you watch the U-Tube snippets that was posted by one of our people on board. Some of them are funny as hell and take some of the sting out of what happened last night. For me I am taking a few days to visit my pal for some golf and fishing the rest of the week but I doubt if I will be able to put the Red Sox out of my mind. Let's just be sure that those guys don't sweep us this series.
  19. Simply put, if we allow the Yankees to climb back in this race by sweeping us we will deserve every kick in the ass we get. It must not only not happen, we must to whatever needed to take this series. I kind of got bummed by that horseshit video I saw about Jeter and A-Rod, a pretty dumb piece of crap, and I hope it doesn't jinx us in this series. This evening we have to get a sterling performance from Tim and some solid hitting support from our offense and take the first game back into the clubhouse as winners. Win tonight and worry about tomorrow tomorrow.
