  1. How about stopping any momentum the Yankees may have??? We can do it by winning the rubber game tomorrow. Simple as that.
  2. I hate to use the word revenge because it rings very hallow, but you could say we sort of evened things up a bit for what transpired in the ninth inning last night. First of all Lowell flattened Cano and it helped a run score, then rammed (accidentally) into Menky and got the guy carted off for a checkup. Hopefully, he is ok. The best was handling headhunter Proctor in the sixth and sevent innings. Five runs and a loss. That's the way to get even. We don't have to headhunt unless we are retaliating for what they try on us. Now if we can get all the cylinders humming tomorrow and take the rubber game we can really put a hurt on the Yankees. They took us two of three in their park, we ought to take them two of three in our house. :D :D :D :D
  3. My computer was on the blink for a day so here I am answering old mail a day late, but when it comes to Wakefield I hope Francona understands that this is NOT the guy you want to open a series with the Yankees. His ERA against them is now something like 10.63meaning that the Yankees own this guy. Besides, I think he is really showing the his age is catching up with him. Hell, the guy cannot even control his knuckler anymore. At any rate, I don't want to see this guy starting any more series' against the Yankees. That's twice he's put us in a 0 for 1 hole the past two weeks.
  4. I had a strong feeling this would happen. Tim Wakefield MUST NEVER AGAIN OPEN A SERIES AGAINST THE YANKEES.. They own him now. That has been evident for the past year. If we don't win at least one game this series we will have let the Yankees back into the face. I hope to God Francona makes it so that Tim never has to face the Yankees again. I just knew this would happen again and, I'm sure, most of you did, too.
  5. Well Schill, I still worry about Tim pitching against the Yankees since he has had little success against them the last year or so. I would like to get this first game with the Yankees very badly. I think it would have vast importance in our laying down the law in the AL East. I want to do nothing that will give the Yankees hope.
  6. Precision as usual Crespo. I had one this morning to check my carotid artery. Imagine being so smart as to know that. I saw Bigbee this spring and he looked like a new hitter. Those are telling stats you gave me dude; where did you get them? I also noticed that you never reacted to the Hunter part of my post. Look, if you're going to tear down my suggeston, go ahead but at least have the freaking decency to comment on the whole package. Now I will listen to what you come up with, and please don't tell me that we stick with Wily Mo Pena for the duration. I may have differences with you but I know you're not a f***ing idiot.:dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
  7. Hey Coco, great analysis and projection on your part. Looking at that list I would say it is a mixed bag at best, so we had better not have happened what happened last summer. ME??? I'm worried about only one thing----TONIGHT'S GAME!!!!! I know we changed our rotation to get Beckett and Schilling pitching in this series and I totally agree with that. However, why drop Julian instead of Wakefield. Tim has been dreadful against the Yankees this season and Taverez has beaten them twice. Besides, to pitch Wake means we have to add another stiff into our lineup in Mirabelli who isn't worth a damn offensively to us. Tonight we face a good pitcher with a slumping Drew, Crisp, Lugo and now Mirabelli in the lineup. God help us all this evening if the first three don't do some damage with the rest of our crew and Tim suddenly rediscovers his once magic against the Yankees. Again, I think Julian should open up tonight.
  8. Dougn, speaking only for myself, I am a Red Sox fanatic but certainly no genius when it comes to picking which talent is what's needed and which is the chaff that should be sent away. I'm right more than I'm wrong but I'm the same guy who once said Sandy Koufax was a useless wild man who will never amount to anything . Good move, huh??? I made the statement that if the Twins fell out of the AL race that Torii Hunter could become available for a two month "rent" and that would certainly be a helluva improvement over Coco Crisp in CF. I have always liked Hunter and think he would be great for the Red Sox. Kind of like an outfield version of Orlando Cabrera, the guy we got in 2004 that was so instrumental in our winning it all that year.
  9. Larry Bigbie was hitting 349 at Las Vegas when his release from his minor league contract came due and the Dodgers released him. I would take him over Pena in two shakes of a monkey's ass since the guy can field his position and hit in the clutch. However, Theo won't make a move to get rid of his pet project. Now I would keep my antenna open to see if Minnesota stays in the race or drops off in the next month or two and make a move to "rent" Torii Hunter for a couple of months. It would cost us a young player or two but Hunterman isn't going back to the Twins anyway and he might be just that extra oomph we need to get over the top this year. OK guys, that was my choice. Flail away. ;) ;)
  10. Bases loaded, nobody out and two and 0 the count and what does that ******** Crisp do? Instead of working the count a little he swings and does his usual shitpile thing of either popping up as he did this time or grounds out to the first baseman. Why the hell can't we get a CF to hold the fort until Jacoby arrives next year? Both Cocopops and Pena are terrible. There has to be something better that we can do about that spot. As for Romero, he sucked with Minnesota in 2006, sucked with the Angels last year. What did Theo expect from this pile of garbage? He and Piniero should be traded over to the NL for a bag of pop corn and a hot dog.
  11. Red, good for you. I cannot understand all this "if it ain't broke don't fix it" bs. I would think we would want to improve on our record, not hold the fort. Sitting on a winning record, or sitting on a lead is crapola. You can only be a great team by extending yourself and trying to become an elite team. The opportunity is there for us this year to become such a team. Why pass up a chance to do so? If it will make us better, I say go for it. One caveat, though. I would not be so anxious to give up on Julio Lugo. He has had his moments at the plate where he has done some damage. It is Crisp who worries the hell out of me.
  12. The last month or so I have come to respect your take on things very much, but do you think Pedroia is ready to step into such an important spot? Remember, I ask this as a big Pedroia fan who I always believed could be a very good player for us. I'm just wondering if he is mentally toughened enough on June 1 to make the switch. It would be great if he was.
  13. You know something I don't Kilo, please inform me. We are throwing Wakefield, Taverez and Schilling against Wang, Mussina, and Pettitte, aren't we????
  14. Crunch, I hope you're feeling that chipper after this weekend's series with the Yankees. They have their three best pitchers going and we have our four and five starters toiling the first two games, and their best facing Curt on Sunday. What I don't want to see is a Yankee sweep in our house. Somehow we have to gut it out and take two of three and stop any momentum the Yankees might have gotten from last night's win. My worry is that the Yankees hammered Tim Wakefield last time out and seem to now have his number, plus the fact we don't score all that much when he pitches. Knowing a pathetic Mirabelli will be in our lineup along with a slumping Crisp and Drew and Lugo we need the whole team reved up for this seriesl We cannot afford to let the Yankees back in this race. As for Pena, if he is movable, then move him. He is a disaster waiting to happen every time he takes his glove on the field, and, as you said, he needs 600abs, a patient hitting coach and fans used to watching losing teams. He does not belong with the Red Sox.
  15. Going both ways with the wild optimism and back down to earth with a disaster scenario saved your scalp from my wrath and my completely going bonkers with such a out in space projection of 116 wins. All that talk scares the hell out of me. One game at a time, one game at a time, one game at a time. We are doing very well but you know what concerns me???? Where are the patsies in our league???? I mean, it's one tough team after another.....Detroit, Cleveland, New York, Minnesota, Anaheim, Oakland, Chicago. Yes, I suppose you could say Texas, KC and maybe one other team, but KC knocked us on our asses last August, the Rangers are sure as hell better than some of the stiffs in the NL, and I don't think TB is any pushover anymore. Every game seems a battle; thank goodness we have the pitching this year. :D :D
  16. What do you say that we go for the gravy Kilo? They took us two of three in their house and we ought to return the favor. Again, all the distance we can separate ourselves from the Yankees will make it that much tougher for them to recover when the summer hits. I want all the cushion we can get because if our pitching does its job and we stay healthy it could be our year. I'm not elated with the fact that Tim Wakefield has to open the series for us because the Yankees seem to have gotten his number, but possibly he will pitch one of his better games and will get the support needed to win. As for Julian, he has already taken the Yankees twice. Give him five or six runs and we have a chance there as well. If Curt can pitch the way he pitched Monday we have a good chance in that game as well. No, I do not think we will win all three games, but I think we ought to win two of them. You know what is of my overiding interest above all that, though? TONIGHT'S GAME!!!!! One game at a time. WIN TONIGHT AND WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW TOMORROW!!!
  17. Eventually Pedroia will be the second man in the order; I just don't know if it is wise to make that move now even though my gut feeling is that he is ready and able to do it. He might have a comfort zone down in the 9th spot and his hitting has really come around as I thought it would. Crisp in that spot, though, is a disaster waiting to happen. He needs to bat as low in the lineup as the circumstances will permit. I still hope Lugo can make it as our leadoff hitter this year, however. He does bring some speed and power to the table in the leadoff role. I think eventually he will be fine there. If not, then we must consider some alternatives. We're doing well the way things are going now. Do we push the envelope to see if things can be even more productive for us, or do we leave well enough along now that things are moving smoothly and keep things the way they are???? That is what I'm sure the Board of Strategy must be mulling over about now.
  18. One thing that bugged the daylights out of me yeszir was all that hype about Roger Clemens on the tube during SPORTSCENTER and Baseball Tonight. They are handling his return like the return of the prodigal son. I mean, do they know something we don't???? Like his return changes the balance in this AL East race in their favor???? Hey, I'm not dissing the Yankees, but don't you think it is going to take more than Roger's return for that club to start putting it together? They certainly should not be underestimated and I never do that with them, but can one player make up thirteen-and-a-half games? That's very hard to imagine.
  19. Kilo, I know there are two generations between us but what the hell does sick win mean? I kind of thought tonight's win was a pretty darn good one and against a very hot team to boot. Schilling looked like the real Curt and we got two homers and ten hits. Lugo and Drew look like they might be getting it together again with the bat. Does sick win mean a top notch one in today's jargon?
  20. That was a scary 9th inning, though. Papelbon himself said he felt a "little sideways" tonight, whatever that means. I interpret it to mean he wasn't on top of his pitches, but the Cleveland Guardians have a good hitting team and you can't be perfect every time out. He got Sizemore, Blake and Hafner, though, and those are three pretty tough dudes with bats in their hands. The Yankees lost again; can you believe that? Again, putting as much distance between us and them is just what the doctor ordered from where I sit. That, and one game at a time.
  21. Let's not talk that BS about losing three to the Yankees. It ought not to happen the way the two teams are playing. Your last sentence should suffice, though. JUST WIN TOMORROW.. One game at a time. It's been working for us well enough up to now. Why change the format?????
