  1. I wish I shared your optimism on that one RS84 but with each passing day it seems to become clearer that if the prices don't go down Prune Face Henry is not going to up the ante and allocate more money for anything and will make due with what we have.....a very bad idea if I'm right. Let's hope you're right on that one because we've been dumpster dumping all winter save for Bailey and Melancon, two good acquisitons.
  2. Well Bob, if you were keeping up with most of my posts, I have reiterated my position that if we could sign a solid No. 4 starter and added another quality reliever we could win the AL East this coming season. That would not be a cluster-you know what. If we don't it will be just that. Look, I don't think anyone on this board disputes the notion that we need that No. 4 starter, most believe we need another reliever, and some of us want that RH hitting outfielder. I'd be willing to see our team take them all on with that kind of ensemble of talent, but we need to make those additions.
  3. Hey, I agree with that VA----and I've tried to keep some balance even if I lean right now to some deep reservations about the team. I have consistently said that the Red Sox could have a solid season and even win the AL East if we could sign a solid No. 4 pitcher, add one good reliever to the mix and, yes, a RH hitting outfielder with some sock. Without those additions, though, the cup is half full and leakin, but no Red So fan I know of is going to throw in the towel and desert the team, not in a million years. I just hope Cherington sees the problem and addresses it. I miss that 2007 feeling and I want to win something this year.
  4. Yes Spitball, it was the great Lincoln who said that. We both know, though, he wasn't using that example as an inspiration for a pitcher's future prowess. However, we seem to be in desperation city and right now Vincente Piddler Padilla looks good in comparison to some of the other no-accounts we've signed. Then, again, if we go by last September, he ought to fit right in.
  5. Maybe Jacoby you could a thing or two about signing dregs and garbage from recent Red So history. Just jog back to 2009. After we blew the Teixeira negotiations to kingdom come we opted for the low risk high reward ******** that some on this board seem to like. REMEMBER THAT? How did that work out. Baldelli went lame and Smoltz and Penny literally stunk out the house. That way doesn't work either, does it? Well that's what we're seeing now. If your brain cells feel bad now just wait until to see Carlos Hi Ho Silver, Aaron Short Order Cook or Deutschland Justin Germano out on the mound getting the living s*** knocked out of them. That will test those brain cells of yours to the max. Of course you could always hope that our new infield acquisition, Brian The Rat Emaus, gets one of his rare hits for the home team. That ought to keep you up in anticipation. Look, we need a quality No. 4 starter who can eat innings and be a winning pitcher for us, and now that Bobby Junk Food Jenks has eaten his way out of the bullpen again, another decent reliever. Believe me, no one enjoys complaining but unless you're a masochist you can't be happy with the piles of human baseball garbage we've signed this winter.
  6. Cut the crap Bob. Francona had a lot of bad years even when won. He routinely cost us between 10-12 games a year because he was one of the very worst field managers around. One reason I hold out hope is that those 10-12 games will not be lost this season because of manager malfeasance. Muggah had Terry down for nine losses going into mid-August last season. The guy cost us division titles in 2005, 2008 and 2009. He was pathetic and that is why he didn't get another managing job this season and why he will have trouble getting one down the road. We won two titles in spite of him.
  7. RSRules---That's about as pollyanna an assessment as I've seen in awhile, but glad to see you're upbeat and for once I don't use the word pollyanna as an epithet. You do know that for what you're predicting just about everything has to go right with us and a helluva lot of wrong has to go the Yankees way. Frankly, though, I don't see the pitching as "MUCH"s better until we get a quality starter for the 4th spot and the 5th man does a yeoman job to take the load off our so-called "Big Three". When you may have to count on the likes of Aaron Short OrderCook, Andrew Millstone Millbum, Deutschland Justin Germano and Carlos Hi Ho Silva, you're asking for a lot of trouble and these guys just ain't gonna get it done. Still, kuddos to your upbeat ways.
  8.
  9. Was that board Sawheads Pumpsie? If so who was Bellhorn there?
  10. I don't know why you get a bug up your keester when I use my nicknames. I told you I wouldn't use Blunder and FrancoMa any more and I have kept my promise there. Besides, I know of some people who like my nicknames and I have used them on many boards. As for working hard on Kuroda, WEEI has just shot down that rumor. No, I won't throw myself off the 12th floor, but I wonder about those two or three guys on this board who actually doubted if I was really a Red So fan. Their faces must be as red as your ass is right now over my nicknames. Relax my friend, it's all in fun and it helps me break the tension. BTW, keep me informed if you hear the Kuroda thing coming alive again. He is one pitcher who can help us.
  11. Well Win, it was good while it lasted. Let's have a toast to Deutschland Justin, Short Oder Cook and Hi Ho Silva.
  12. Now this could work for us Win Sox. Kuroda is a decent pitcher who with any kind of offensive support can win you games. I live in the LA area and have seen this guy on TV many times. He usually is a very consistent pitcher, though, face it, he will be going up against tougher lineups over here if we sign him. As for Harden, I would take a flier on him as well and maybe return Aceves and Bard to the pen. I think that could make us serious contenders for the Al East Title this year. Finally, a rumor or two that makes one positive about his team. Of course, seeing is believing and I'll believe it when I see it.
  13. Aw, f*** the Cubs. Who really gives a rat's ass about them anyway? OK, I enjoy reading these posts telling me how crappy they're going to be this year and maybe next and it makes me feel good because of that a-hole who left our budget in disarray. We should keep in mind, though, that they could still make a move in that half-ass division they're in. The Cards lost Pujols and they're getting old, the Brewers lost Fielder and will lose Roids Ryan for 50 games, the Pirates are still horse dung, the Reds are always either hot or cold and the Astros belong in the Dominican or Rookie League. There are no Yankees or Rays or even Jays in that division and they could still fashion a winning record with the stiff that they will be playing.
