  1. I think if Amaro is reading the tea leaves and hasn't deluded himself he has to know his team isn't going anywhere this season. If he wants to hold onto to his veterans and try again next year, well, that's one thing. If he believes his team will miraculously recover, then he is deluding himself. That ball club has been wildly inconsistent this year and has been unable to put together any type of run up to now. No reason to believe they will do so save for the fact that the Nationals are doing exactly the same, the Mets are building for the future, and the Marlins are going nowhere but down. Perhaps he thinks he can grab a WC spot but his team will have to have a better record than they have right now to do it. Something tells me he might just decide to have an auction this coming week.
  2. Jake Peavy would pass muster with me.
  3. I wonder if Ben is going to hesitate after watching Jon Lester pitch his second solid game in a row today? I think it becomes harder for him now to make a decision on which way to go. I have no clue what's up his sleeve but I can ascertain a guess depending on events down the road. IF Clay Buchholz is ready to pitch soon he will no doubt in my mind stand pat. As you said he is very methodical and that's not really bad unless it dissolves into paralysis by analysis. Still, I would like to add a starting pitcher to our mix anyway
  4. Emmz, is it possible this guy is Dutchy?
  5. The Hanley Ramirez trade that netted us Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell won us a World Series in 2007. Beckett was 20-7 that year with an ERA barely over 3.00, and we was 4-0 in the Playoffs in which he gave up only three runs. Lowell put numbers like 324-21-120 during the regular season and was WS MVP. To turn it around from one of your answers to one of my posts SR, YOU'RE KILLING ME SR. Also, you cannot be serious.
  6. Hey Ted, I'm a little embarrassed to even say this but I was once a big Yaz phobe----just didn't like anything about him. But then I wasn't a Red Sox fan, rooted against them when they played the Cards, Reds and Mets in the WS back in '67, '75, and (save me from a lynch mob) '86. I was then a National League fan incarnate. It was only when I became a Red Sox fan in the summer of 2000 did my opinion of him change. (August 19th will be 13 years since I came over to the sunny side of the street, but I will be in Ireland on that date so congrats from my pals here will have to be postponed until I get back on the 26th). I've done a lot of research on Yaz since then and have come to admire him as a true Red Sox icon. Amazing how you see things differently when you're in the house as compared to when you're in the dark zone. Anyway, kudos to the Red Sox for such a great idea of a statue of the guy. BTW, my wife, never a Red Sox fan, was always an AL fan since she loves the Angels and always boasted how she really like Yaz, one of her favorite players. Well I finally came on board.
  7. Dojii, I gave myself a couple of days to cool off after some of the comments came my way but I think I know where they're coming from. It is just my opinion that Cecchini will hit for a higher average over the course of his career, which I hope is nowhere but in Boston, while Boegarts no doubt will be a Hanley Ramirez clubber with good power and run production and also hit for a decent average. One thing is certain from where I sit, we must NOT trade either of those guys.
  8. True, Loney is having a good year with Tampa. They seem to squeeze a lot of talent of the guys they pick up but I wonder if it is because the lack of pressure of playing in a ball park where most fans don't seem to give a damn? When Loney was in LA, he was over-consumed with pressure because he couldn't hit with any power to speak of and it eventually did him in. I need not go into how crappy he was when he got to Boston last summer. No, he is not for us. I would rather have Napoli strikeouts and all because he will drive in 80 or so runs and hit 25 homers. Besides, we have enough prospects that we could flip an infielder or outfielder to first base or even a catcher. I remember when I was a kid in Queens and the Brooklyn Dodgers had Gil Hodges all lined up to take over at catcher and then came Roy Campanella. They made a first baseman out of Gil and he became one of the revered sluggers on the "Boys of Summer", driving in 100 runs seven years in a row and coming close to the century mark two more times. We can find us a first baseman right in our system. We don't need Loney.
  9. You wouldn't but someone else would. The CFs in FA last winter made out pretty damn well and Ellsbury is at least as good as any of them are. Some team will throw the kitchen sink at him. There's always one or two teams swimming in cash that will take a leap of faith. In the meantime, where do we get two outstanding starting pitchers that we're going to need very badly if we ever want to see a WS again from anyplace besides a television? We don't any to speak off in our farm system-----not ONE who projects as anything but a No. 3.------Maybe Henry Owens.
  10. In my opinion Pal, Cecchini is now our best prospect. He is a solid hitter in the line of Wade Boggs, a line drive, gap power man. I'm not predicting he will be as good as Boggs was but this kid can hit consistently and has a quick bats, great hands, and looks like he can hit left handed pitching, which to me is a pre-requisite for any left handed hitter to hit well in the Big Leagues. He is one guy we must NOT trade.
  11. Yes they do SR. It's called pulling off the ball. The head, shoulders and lower body all move away from the plate towards foul territory----and that is exactly what WMB was doing when he was with the Red Sox. Jung may have worded it wrong but he was spot-on with his analysis.
  12. Jung, I coached baseball for over 30 years and most of those were young men in college and ex-pros. I also did some spot scouting for a couple of my friends in the profession. So I can comment on your take on things. You are absolutely right. WMB not only was getting pull happy but his head was flying out towards the left field line and, strange as it seems, a couple of times I saw him to that when trying to hit an outside pitch down and away. His mechanics were all fouled up....and badly. Now I haven't seen him at Pawtucket since I live in Southern California but I saw him on TV and on my computer screen and anyone with coaching and or scouting experience of any kind would have to be blind not to have noticed that.
  13. Yes Jason, and right now our team is terrible. And when is Farrell finally going to get Salty, Drew and Iglesias out of the lineup. They look like the Three Stooges at the plate.
  14. I still believe we need a quality No. 1 or 2 starter and to me Jake Peavy might be the only one who is available. The Phillies have insisted time and again that Cliff Lee is not for sale and they still believe that in the end they will challenge for a WC spot. One thing that puzzles me is all the negative stuff about Middlebrooks. Yes, he had a rough time when he was with us but he's the same guy who hit 15 homers and hit for a decent average and was a decent run producer. The guy isn't even 25 yet. I still feel that Bogey at short and WMB at third is the best course for us down the road----and they are RH hitters who could help us against lefties that have caused us nothing but trouble this year.
  15. In my opinion sk7, Ellsbury is as good as gone. I wish we could resign him because as much as love Jackie Bradley I have some suspicions about his being able to hit ML pitching consistently, and he certainly isn't going to be the speed burner on the bases that Jacoby is. Still, we have to face reality and hope JB is more than up to it and become a stalwart for the Red Sox because Ells will fly the coop this winter.
  16. Perhaps that is why 700hitter has been talking up getting a strong RH bat during the trade deadline. Those stats are going to get around if they haven't already and we could wind up seeing other teams saving their southpaws for us. And BTW, Drew and Salty should never be in the lineup when an opposing lefty is on the mound. The negative evidence for that is overwhelming and if you watch them on your TV or on the computer screen their ineptness against southpaws is pathetic.
  17. And it looks like we'll be facing Price again since it will he his turn. Not good.
  18. Sorry User, but that's not the case at all. Boras was quoted as more than willing to step aside and let Weaver make that decision. It was amicable on both sides. The fallacy is that Boras is stubborn to the point that his charges following in step with what he proposes. That is not so. If a player want to make the decision on his own he is more than willing to let him do it . That was a big story out here when Weaver inked that new contract, and, BTW, Boras is a season ticket holder with the Angels and lives in Newport Beach, about four miles away f rom Angels Stadium. As for Ells, we agree on that. He has shown no real interest in resigning with the Red Sox as I mentioned earlier. He wants a big payday.
  19. When are you moving back to Brooklyn? Or Santa Monica?
  20. How about Jarod Weaver? Think he is a good example of a Boras client signing an extension before hitting FA? Not nonsense at all. Look it up.
  21. Listen bub, you've been reading these posts. Who started this s***, her or me? I never said anything to her until he made a crack about my post----and if you can't be objective about it, just butt out as well. I will n ever start something but I will not stand for being attacked. You ought to know that by now.
  22. Mark, it has to be a two way street. In this case Ellsbury should make the first move as Pedroia did. If he wants to stay a Red Sox he should make that plain to John Henry. As I remember the Red Sox owner said he would like to keep Jacoby on the Red Sox so the ball is now in Ells' court. He only has to tell Boras that he wants to work something out with the Red Sox for an extension and they can get down to business. I would like to see Jacoby stay too since I'm not that certain that Bradley can do for the Red Sox what Jacoby can and whether he can hit ML pitching on a consistent basis. Let's see if Ellsbury makes such a move. Frankly, I doubt it.
  23. What a cheap and worthless creep that woman is. She must be one frustrated female. She likes to egg people on and insult them but give it back to her and she goes complaining to the mods. I didn't start it with her. I want that understood, but if she continues in that vain I will tear her a new *******. I'm hear to post baseball talk and a little banter with my colleagues. However, if I'm attacked or insulted I will answer in kind Ted. She'd be wise to understand that and back off fast.
  24. You know lady, you can dish it out but have a miserable inability to take it. Just shut up!!!!! If you can't say something constructive about one of my posts just butt out. Besides, you put me on ignore if I remember. Do it again unless you want to start some trouble. Just remember this sister....to be seen stand up, to be heard speak up, to be appreciated SHUT UP!!!!!!! I
  25. And we still have each other's back my friend. And damn it, YOU owe me a call.
