Isnt age a factor here as well, Helton's closing in on 34, Why would they want a player that old, even if it is Helton? I thought this team was on the right path with a youth movement, this move says otherwise.
Why would Chicago ever want to part with their ace at only 25? the only thing I can possibly think of is the FO going through a transition right now. With Kerry Wood most likely not coming back I don't see this as happening. Wheres the source of this anyway?
He's having rotator cuff surgery and will be out for at least 8 months... what a goddam shame

You dont ever criticize the greatest pitcher in franchize history, the sox havent and never will be the same with his departure. Nothing but respect for the man whos a HOF'er in any baseball fans mind. theres no telling where the Mets will end up (personally I'd like to see them have success) but here's a look at Petey in the postseason:

step right up and greet the mets
Don't count him out yet, talent like that doesnt just dissapear, he's only 34 also, I doubt we've seen his full potential at this point in his career, but I would agree.... after '08 his pitching days are probably over
I know theres time till Pena's return, but are we really gonna need, Harris, Kapler and Pena when he does come back? the way it looks at this point, Kapler is here to stay, so do you look to offload one your backup outfielders? I.E. Harris or Pena?
with the retiring of schilling after next year, who would want two 40 yeaer old starters for only a year?? it leaves two major holes in the rotation after next year and sacrafices too much young talent, this would not be a good move
