    Yeah, by no means is Theo a god, he's gone down in status lately. I do think he's an above average GM. I think he still needs some experience, as he's still pretty young. I hope he stays in Boston for years to come, and ends up being very good. But no, he's not a god.

    Theo didn't by any means botch the Abreu trade. Last season if we got him we wouldv'e gone over the luxury tax limit, which has now been significantly raised some, giving us more financial flexibility. Also, yes I agree, the Beckett trade has ended up horribley, but until last season Hanley was looking like one of those underacheiving but wicked talented players. Sanchez I agree with riverside however, might not have had the same success as he had in the NLE if he were to be brought up in the ALE. So the jurys still out on this trade.

    Yeah Rivera's really taken off, he would be a good catch if we could get him.

    Papelbon did have 3 or so starts in the ML the season prior to last, in which he held the Angels and others to 2 runs in I believe 5 innings each outing. However, that by no means is a track record, and I believe that his 3rd and 4th pitches will make or break him. Also, Gom, I'm not so sure Matsuzaka will struggle. I mean he has 4 MLB caliber pitches, will pitch a lot less than he did in Japan, does well in the spotlight, and he is already used to having the game called by his catcher (so Tek will have total control, and that usually fares well). So basically you have a catcher who knwos the league better than anyone, a pitcher cocky anough to get through it, and a solid arsenal of pitches to unleash on hitters.

    5 years is a bit above what I would want. Id feel more comfortable with 3 years, and options for the least 2. The money I don't really care, because the luxury tax threshold has gone up. Ifw e do sign him to 5, we're almost certain to run into a problem in his last two years with injury or lack of performance,a nd then he'll sit while we bring up soembody or tarde for someone.

    i like the deal, though i feel very reluctant trading Wily Mo, honestly, I need to see him play an entire season starting before I can judge him. However, that deal solves a lot of our needs right away

    I love Linebrink, but I don't think he's worth Pena or Crisp, maybe extend it to involve Lowell and Peavy :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

    I dont think it was the Giants decision, Matsuzaka, if eh waited 2 more years could ahve come over as a FA, it depends on the years of service

    If we're going to go afetr a second-tier pitcher, then I want Meche as well. However, eaton is a smart move as hell come cheap and could provide Meche -like numbers

    Thewre are 2 things Id be worried about with Wake comin out to close: 1) Does he ahve control, and 2) will he be effective i.e. will he serve up rollers that get knocked out farther than most airplanes go.

    I hoenstly think Wakey would be a VERY solid option at closer, just because his knucler would be so different from pitchers prior to him it would be ahrd to get the timing down.
