  1. Intresting you said as payrolls get higher. The Yankee payroll will actually be lower next year. It will continue to get lower as the horrible contracts(Mussina,Posada,Wright who has a buy out, etc from just a few years ago roll off.) So that statement isnt accurate. At worst the payroll will reamin similar. So despite the reports the Yankees are slowly(very slowly) returning back to the pack (or just the Red Sox)
  2. Put it toward your scouting department and it will pay off. Just look at the Brewers. They put all of there revenue money to their scouting department and their ballpark and they have an amazing farm and a team on the rise. (I saw this on a piece done by that show on HBO I forgot the name)
  3. So because 3 out of 4 major sports have it, it must be right? Lets break it down shall we? NFL: The NFL's system is while very sucessful is very unfair IMO. Players rights are totally none existant because of it. One of the things thats fun about baseball is the hot stove. What hot stove is in Football? The cap totally restricts player movement (Which some would argue is a good thing) NBA: I think the cap is one reason why the NBA is so DULL(and the ratings prove it) IMO. You need the players salery to matchup to make a trade. You have these "max contracts" etc. NHL: Is the NHL still a major sport? and again , D-Backs, Angels, Marlins, Red Sox, White Sox. Isnt that parody? These past postseasons have been the grestest ever. As for baseball surviving.........its hardy dying.
  4. Thats where the luxary tax comes in. Put that to good use and as Jimmy Carter said draft/scout better and you will have a winner.
  5. I understand your point and I agreed with the "floor" as well if there were to be a cap but again. I still dont see why bigger market teams should lower themselfs to a smaller market level. Big market teams should not be punished because they play where they play and make what they make.
  6. BTW any idea what pick the Yankees give up for Damon? Someone told me a 2nd rounder and the Yankees retain their 1st rounder from the Phillies for Gordon.
  7. And to make one more example: This from a guy who wants the Red Sox to dump Matt Clements salery on the Mariners and take Jemery Reed from them also trade 42 year old David Wells for Chris Young and another prospect.
  8. Nice, I'll be home for it. Cant wait
  9. The Yankees won 4 world titles by developing talent within and signing key free agents so excuse me if I'm not sacred of a salery cap. Hearing Red Sox fans scream for a salery cap is like hearing the pot calling the kettle black. What homegrown talent did the Red Sox win the world series with? Dont be a hypocrite. Did you not steal Johnny Damon for the A's? Did you not steal Manny Ramierz from the Guardians? Did you not steal David Ortiz from the Twins? Did you not steal Curt Schilling from the D-Backs? Really
  10. I'm still yet to hear a valid arguement for a salery cap AND PLEASE!!!! stop with the I feel so bad for the Royals crap. You guys dont give two shits about them. What this is about is the Yankees spending habbits not having the Royals being able to compete.
  11. Furcal isnt worth 13 mill either. The market changes every year. Watch next year you see pitchers like Barry Zito get 13-15 mill a year for 5 years. We are getting back to where we started(The A-Rod, Jeter, Manny days of contracts).
  12. Yeah, your the only one that I see makes any logical point surrounding Damon and his durability. As for Beckett, hes certainly worth it. Why not? great stuff and already a world series MVP. The only problem in that arguement is while you certainly make a good point about the money, the Red Sox did give up what in many people mind was a top 5 or 10 prospect in Hanley Rameriez.
  13. To be honest, I like Flaherty and all. He did a fine job with RJ but outside of that he was crap. He cant hit anymore and his defense declined severly. If he didnt hit it off with RJ he might have been released last year.
  14. I doubt any.
  15. Why should there be a salery cap?(and I'm not trying to be obnoxious) Why should the Yankees and the Red Sox be on the same level playing field(Payroll wise) with the Royals and the D-Rays? The Yankees and the Red Sox both play and major markets thus should be able to spend more then anyone if you ask me. I think its fine the way it is. Plus the Yankees havent won in 5 years. You see teams like the Marlins and the D-Backs (both of which play in smaller markets) winning. In fact I dont see much of an arguement for a cap. Maybe teams like the D-Rays should use some of that Luxary Tax money that they get from us and sign some free agents, draft/scout better(Which the D-Rays have just look at their farm) and they will be winning in no time.
  16. Alot of you guys attack Damons durability. But at the same time this guy hasnt been on the DL in what 10 years? Last year was the first time ever that he really delt with injuries. Dont you need a little bit more to be overly concered with someones durability when hes only had one "injury plagued season" if you even want to call it that(He had a shoulder problem thats the only major thing I heard about. The concussion came on a freak play). Plus you want to talk about durability lets talk about one of the Red Sox pick ups this off-season. Josh Beckett is still yet to ever pitch over 180 innings. I'd be a little bit more concered with him then Damon who only delt with a shoulder problem last season. BTW This is not for just one red seat, Damons durability has been talked about alot.
  17. Damn you one red seat your a minute ahead of me
  18. Its a good idea but why would the Padres trade Chris Young and Hensley for a 42 year old pitcher who is demanding a trade which means they(Red Sox) really dont have much leverage at all?
  19. Intresting note, I saw another post on this same subject. The guy said that the Yankees should trade Chacon based on those stats and the fact that his vaule might be as high as its ever going to get. I think as a 5th starter he will be fine though. You dont need your 5th starter to be an ace, I'd prefer a guy who give you a quality start and can eat innings.
  20. Nah no fight. No need to. The point was proven already.
  21. Its not my fault you used his stats against the Red Sox to hint that hes not a good pitcher. My point is those stats prove nothing about his ability to pitch. Maybe you should stop thinking that the world revolves around the Red Sox and I wont have to be "Captain Obvious". When I read what essentially is a stupid post like the one you made before I feel obligated to break things down to a 5 year old level. Sorry
  22. what are you getting Chris Young for?
  23. agreed, the Yankees DO play against other teams next year guys. Not just the Red Sox.
  24. agreed, I'd like to pocket that "few extra dollars".
