    He was by no means being lectured by a Papelbon. What Papelbon said is what anyone would have said when asked that question. Papelbon said nothing wrong and I highly doubt that Curt, who was admittedly wrong with his comments, will take exception with Papelbon. This is a complete non issue. Period.

    Another Yankee fan stirring something up because they are 7 games out of first place. First its Gom claiming to know that Ortiz has taken steroids and now this. If we were where the Yankees are now this might be a bigger deal. Obviously Papelbon is right, and Schilling knows it. This is not an issue.

    To me if we win this game its a bonus. Facing Halladay, you are always looking at defeat. Hopefully Wake can keep us in this game, and we can come out with a nice sweep and be 7 games ahead of New York.

    I agree with you on trot. However, intangibles do affect players performance in a big way. Work ethic is an intangible, don't you think that has something to do with player performance. Sometimes you have to realize that you can't just base players on sabermetric statistics.

    Drew is a player at this point in his career. Drew is slumping, he will get out of it, because he is a very good hitter. Like ORS said, if he continues to slump into June then I will be very worried. I am a big Nixon guy, but you just could not go into another season with Trot as the starting RF. I am happy that Trot is playing well, but I do expect him to tail off as the season progesses. Drew is a streaky hitter, he has been his entire career, don't worry he will get hot soon. (I hope)

    I was being semi-sarcastic about Gonzo, however I was never totally sold on Lugo. I really hope he pans out because it will be a long 4 years at short if he doesn't.

    Does anyone eles think that 4 years 40 million was a horrible deal for Lugo. Gonzo is hitting well for Cinci this year. 7 Jacks I believe, along with a .300 average.

    DiceK has looked very sharp thus far... The offense really has not capitalized so far. Is it just me or has Manny looked sluggish since last thursday?

    Did you read the entire article, or just what was posted here. Read the entire transcript and you will see how badly this was taken out of context.

    Maybe it was the fact that Ortiz never got consistent playing time really until mid way through 03. 2004 was the first season were he started the sesaon as a starter. Ortiz looks now like he did 10 years ago. I think what he has done is legit.

    What don't you understand about it Gom? The only reason the Red Sox fell out of the race last year is because a freak amount of injuries happened all at once at the worst possible time.

    What can you say about Josh Beckett, he is the ace we though he would be last season. 7-0 in 7 starts is increidible. Our offense is really clicking right now, even Tek should be close to hitting .300 right now. If Beckett can win about 20 games this year, than we should easily make the playoffs. 6 games ahead is a nice feeling. We really have a chance coming up to put more distance between us and the Yankees in the next month. The Yanks schedule is brutal, and we have a 10 game homestand coming up. It would be good to have a 8-9 game cushion when the Rocket comes back. Our top four starters are now 17-5. That pretty much says it all.

    I agree with Schilling, however, I think he is stupid for saying it the way he did. The truth is that Bonds has never admitted to cheating on his taxes or his wife. Whether or not he admitted to using steriods during the Balco invesigation is not known, he has never admitted anything to the public. I think Bonds is probably gulity on all those accounts but it is not Curt's or anyones place to say what he said.

    I am so glad the Yankees unloaded Gary Sheffield, I mean I know the guy is getting up there, but when he was at the plate he scared the s*** out of me. Abreu is not even close to being the force that Sheff was. Abreu is looking for walks, which is not a good thing when you are a number 3 hitter. He should definetely be more aggressive at the plate.

    This is a very unanswerable question. For one we have not seen DiceK pitch enough to know how good he can be. With Roger I think he is going to have an ERA around 4.00 in the AL. From what all the scouts say, DiceK should get better.

    You know whats priceless? Being 20-10, 5.5 games ahead of the Yankees and making them over pay for Roger Clemens, who hasn't had an ERA of under 3.50 in the AL since 1998. He will probably average under 6 innings a start if last year was any indication.

    I'm glad we didn't. I think Lester can pitch as well as Clemens this year. I think both will post around a 4.25 ERA.
