  1. I mean, I won't be disappointed too much either way. I like Loretta, always have, so I'm bias.
  2. Put me in the Loretta camp. I want Loretta back for another two or three. I don't like the way Pedroia takes huge hacks, I love Loretta. Class act, Good ball player.
  3. Best divisional series match up. Mets in 5.
  4. I'll take the padres in 5 on this one. I don't think the cards are going to get it done.
  5. I'll take the Tigers in 5.
  6. Twins in 4 as well.
  7. We hardly knew ye, playoff thread.
  8. Did any of you watch Gagne when he came back? The guy is more iffy than keith foulke. No way do I wanna see the Sox in a position where they are depending on eric f***ing gagne. That is suicide. He was topping out in the low ninties when he came back and promptly hit the DL afterwards. No way would I want to depend on that. The Sox should see if they can get a hold of Baez, Speier, and Cordero in set up and make a trade for a closer.
  9. And everyone thought it was the splitter that revived his career.
  10. Talk about joke vision. and I'm not trying to say Wily Mo doesn't K, I know he does, but not many power hitters don't strike out. I'd much rather a year of 'lets see what wily mo can do' than a year of 'lets keep paying nixon to be on the DL, he had that good year once' He has played well this season. Well enough to earn more time. You know what, you're probably right. I don't know about 200 K's, he isn't Dunn-esque, but he is up there. You're not gonna find the perfect ball player anywhere. I think his defense will be adequate enough to live with, bad enough to complain about in a loss. His hitting will be good enough so that people won't question why Nixon isn't in right, and he'll K enough to give the papers something to gripe about.... and us too. At the end of the day, I think Pena is deserving of a shot.
  11. The community means nothing. As a matter of fact, the community is a distraction and probably the cause of his poor play... all of it... through out his entire career. Baseball should be played as far away from these "communities" as possible. On a serious note, Wily Mo has done nothing but let his bat do the talking all season long and his bat has been saying that he needs more playing time. Yeah, I like Nixon, but Pena has a chance to be special if given the oppurtunity. He'll K from time to time and in key spots too, but I think Pena could be a .280 30 100 guy over the course of a season. Something Nixon absolutely is NOT.
  12. No. If you strike out 27 straight batters then yes. You can get 27 outs via the strike out and still give up hits walks etc. It doesn't have to be perfect.
  13. I've struck out 29 in ten innings in MVP 05. The first batter of the game grounded out or something. Shawn Estes I think was the pitcher. I used to be great with that guy in MVP 05. Kinda weird.
  14. I agree. Gotta keep manny. Unless you can get a hold of some of the young talent in the Anaheim system. If you can get Santana plus a prospect, christ, do it. Otherwise, hold onto Manny.
  15. The option situation with Foulke is pretty complicated I think. At the end of it though, the Sox can and will wash their hands of him at the end of the year. He was wonderful in '04. He will always have my respect for that. He was a true pitcher and the way he pitched in the playoffs was very admirable. He isn't that Keith Foulke anymore though and there really isn't any room for him on a team that wants to win a world series anymore because it seems like he just doesn't have the commitment and he has had some unfortunate health issues. I love him still though. Speier would be a good pick up, so would Coco Cordero.
  16. Foulke is gone at the end of the season. I don't know why anyone would want him back.
  17. The arbibtrator isn't going to rule in Branch's favor. The pats aren't looking to deal him and hey news flash THEY DONT HAVE TO. Who cares if its fair or not? He is under their control, and if they don't want to deal him, no one can tell them they have to. No one can tell them how to run their team. This is the NFL, no arbitrator is going to come in and force a team to trade a player based on moves other teams have made. No one can come in and tell them to trade him or to lessen their demands. That is ridiculous. So the question remains, when is Branch going to stop being a bitch and sign?
  18. I wasn't saying Rivera and Papelbon have the same injury. I was saying same scenario, only pitcher in the bullpen throwing quality innings, got tired. Thats all it is fatigue. So maybe to you the sky is falling, but the kid is fatigued.
  19. I just think there is no reason why the Sox shouldn't be very competitive next year. We have the framework of an awesome team. Best closer in baseball, good 1-2 with Beckett and Schilling, great defense, and manny and ortiz. We have a lot going for us. We need to fill in this pitching staff some more and upgrade CF possibly.
  20. Exactly. I don't see them going after lugo. We need pitching not a 25 error a season short stop who hits for a little more pop.
  21. Yeah, gotta agree. I took a liking to crisps bat he hit around .300 his first two seasons in the bigs, he is a good hitter but his defense is atrocious. We have two left fielders in the outfield every night. Crisp just doesn't have the range to get it done in center.
  22. I don't know, the FO is very tight lipped about their business now. I think that might be speculation drawn from the fact that they've inquired about him a couple times now, I think if they had the choice, A-Gon would be preferred. I love A-Gon. What I want to know is how much the Sox are willing to spend to bring in pitching this off season. The past two off seasons they've gone the cheap route. Its time to pay top dollar for some quality arms.
  23. Yeah, the word treatable rubs me the wrong way in a sense too. All you can do is just hope he pulls through.
  24. It isn't the end of the world. He has been the only pitcher in our bullpen consistently getting outs. For him to be tired is no surprise. Same thing with Rivera, elbow strain and he is still pitching. I really wouldn't mind them closing up shop and just shutting him down until next season if they have to. I know thats depressing and its really waving the white flag but whats the point in risking the health of his shoulder for this, you know?
