    Because Bard is the only guy in the bullpen with minor league options left. It doesn't make a ton of sense to release Penny so close to Sept. 1st since he's a guy who could eat some innings in a blowout and save the actual useful members of the pen.

    So the Yankees and Rangers are playing a pretty big series over the next three days and my question is, are you pulling for the Yankees or are you pulling for the Rangers? I'm pretty much trying to gauge whether people here are still pulling out all the stops for the division or whether the Wild Card is the main focus at this point, AL East crown be damned.

    He won't. At worst, Bard will get sent down until Sept. 1st and then come back up when the rosters expand to 40.

    Matches up nicely against both, probably equally as effective. vs. RHH - .186 AVG, .262 OBP, .305 SLG, .566 OPS vs. LHH - .202 AVG, .270 OBP, .277 SLG, .547 OPS and one important thing to remember here, and it renders the two shlubs going the other way almost useless, is the two picks the Sox will get when Wagner signs elsewhere

    some guy from Newsday just reported an announcement is coming shortly, looks like the deal is done (meaning Wagner is coming to Boston) EDIT: David Lennon, Mets beat writer for Newsday, on Twitter: "Announcement coming shortly on Wagner. Looks like the trade to Boston is going to happen. #Mets."

    I remember seeing Jon Heyman on Twitter writing something like "the opinion in the Red Sox organization that matters the least is Papelbon's" Anyway, its less than an hour until the deadline for a trade and all we're hearing is that it's dead so it probably is dead
