  1. Maybe it goes without saying but Wakefield basically said he's gonna hang 'em up at the end of this two-year deal: "Yes, I’m done after two more,’’ Wakefield said. "That’ll put me at 45."
  2. Yea, it does mean something. It means the Sox declined their option on him. I didn't say he was guaranteed not to be wearing a Sox uniform next year.
  3. Rob Bradford of WEEI reports that the Sox have declined to pick up the club's $5 million option on Jason Varitek. Varitek now has 5 days to decide whether he will exercise his $3 million player option.
  4. Rob Bradford of WEEI reports the Sox have signed Wakefield to a two-year, $5 mil deal. $3.5 mil next season and $1.5 in 2011. Both years have incentive clauses as well.
  5. for some reason I feel like Ugueth Urbina was behind this
  6. C'mon, would anyone really say "holy s***, someone scooped up Alex Gonzalez. What do we do now?!"
  7. why pick up an option that would be higher than what he'll make anywhere next season?
  8. that's interesting although like the article says, they could bring him back for a lower salary. No way he's gonna make $6 mil anywhere in 2010
  9. It's dependent on what the rest of the lineup looks like. With a productive lineup, they can live with Gonzo/Lowrie.
  10. Thus far the Rangers got an average outfielder to show for Gagne. Don't give me any of this "Engle Beltre is a can't miss prospect" s*** either, judge the trade once the verdict is reached on Beltre in the majors.
  11. Jeff Bagwell. We could do this all day.
  12. He's fine as a backup 1B.
  13. Not a bad deal. Certainly an upgrade on Baldelli.
  14. Head chef for Korean BBQ Day at Yankee Stadium.
  15. What I love is that Abreu's season was so on par with what he's done in recent years and yet he gets a deal that's potentially for 3-years at almost double what he made this season on a one-year deal. Outstanding.
  16. It's easy to be frustrated the day after the Yankees win the WS
  17. That's not really fair to imply that ownership's only goal is to ensure that the ballpark is full every night. The 2007 team would've been competitive had they kept Trot Nixon in RF instead of shelling out massive coin for JD Drew. I have full confidence that they'd spend the necessary amount if they felt the player warranted the money and the years.
  18. Although from a financial standpoint, every other team is a clear financial disadvantage, the Sox along with several other teams have won in this economic climate. It can be done. But let's not act like Brian Cashman is such a great GM.
  19. Next time, specify that it's the White Sox in the title. You just ruined a fine pair of pants for Dojji.
  20. Congratulations is a term meant for someone that accomplished something. The Yankees accomplished something last night, their fans didn't. That being said, I'm happy for certain Yankee fans here that experienced the joy of their team winning last night.
  21. Throw half a billion at free agents?
  22. Wouldn't change my opinion that I don't think he could hold up through an entire season
