  1. holy crap, what a black hole 6-9 is going to be tonight
  2. he's been good through 6 innings, and usually those first 6 innings are the toughest ones on a guy coming into the big leagues for the first time as long as he keeps getting guys out , ride him till the wheels come off. in recent years, there seems to be a guy who comes out of nowhere to stabilize the bullpen and who knows, maybe Chris Smith can be that guy this year.
  3. In the context of catcher, define upgrade. It's become a clich? to say that his intangibles make him invaluable but when you see the success of the pitching staff, a good chunk of that success has to be attributed to Varitek and his preperation and game-calling ability. To me, it's worth accepting that you'll get about a .240-.250 average from him when you think of everything else he offers just like I thought it was worth it to hold on to Alex Gonzalez for his defensive ability.
  4. 1 inning officially. btw, how bout that Chris Smith?
  5. I agree that considering the investment the Sox made in Schilling, they deserved to see if the injury could have healed through rehab but I still don't see how Schilling passed a physical prior to signing the contract
  6. it has already come out that if Curt chooses to not retire, the earliest he will come back is after the 2009 All-Star Break. So that being said, if Curt had the surgery in ST, there was NO chance he was going to pitch this year
  7. Jays fired John Gibbons today, replacing him with Cito Gaston, their manager for their 2 WS titles, until the end of the year
  8. at least it isnt '05 when the rotation was far worse off without Schilling than it is this year
  9. unless he officially retires, I would think so. The Yankees have had to pay Carl Pavano his entire salary for the overwhelming service he's given the club
  10. exactly, personally I think he chose his words well there
  11. Boston.com - Extra Bases Not that I thought he was going to make any impact on the 2008 season but this just confirms it. It would suck if he's thrown his last major league pitch though.
  12. what the hell kind of statement is that exactly?
  13. pretty odd considering Riccardi usually chooses his words carefully. he's starting to feel the heat no doubt
  14. Dave Bush had a no hitter through 7 against the Jays before Overbay broke it up with a triple
  15. oh yea, very impressive against that amazingly potent Padres lineup...
  16. Pittsburgh put up 6 runs on the White Sox in the 2nd inning today, none of them charged to Gavin Floyd
  17. if Zambrano's shoulder issues are serious, I could see the Cubs making a big time run at Sabathia
  18. Ponson must've been really disruptive for a team who gives up as many runs as the Rangers to dump him. If I remember right, he did have a respectable 4-1 record with a 3.81 ERA in 9 starts
  19. he refused to sign with the team when they drafted him 2nd overall in 1997
  20. well, Hansen is back to sucking. I guess I should leave the country again, that's literally the only period of time he pitched well this year
