  1. after Lowell pops out and Youkilis lines out, the Sox leave 'em loaded
  2. obviously the Sox are going to have a larger, more loyal fanbase considering the Rays were born in 1996 and have been absolutely pathetic since, not to mention the dump of a stadium they play in. Ownership hadn't exactly done anything to make Rays baseball a big attraction prior to this season so I can't blame their fans for only coming out now
  3. Charlie Zink, for those that don't know, is a knuckleballer for Pawtucket and pitched a two-hit shutout last night. Now, obviously any pitcher who relies on the "dancing cowhide" is subject to inconsistency but consider his line for the season: 9-2, 2.42 ERA, 80 H, 72/34 K/BB, 111 2/3 IP What are the odds this 29-year-old can come in the next time a spot starter is needed and maybe stick with the rotation for a bit to be a valuable innings-eater for a struggling bullpen? Furthermore, can two knuckleballers co-exist in one rotation? Maybe Varitek could use the extra rest...
  4. Buster Olney is saying that Milwaukee has become a very strong candidate for Sabathia, possibly acquiring him as early as next week in a deal involving Matt LaPorta. Ken Rosenthal adds that Alcides Escobar could also be involved
  5. our bullpen is absolutely awful
  6. my only real concern is the bullpen, aside from that I still believe the Sox are the best team in baseball. it would be nice to see them play with a bit of pride though
  7. yea, I was just looking into it. For anyone wondering, click the link below to see individual player salaries for each team http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/salaries?team=bos
  8. wow, who the hell are the Cardinals spending so much money on (besides Pujols & Glaus) to have an over $100 mil payroll?
  9. yea, something seems up with manny this year
  10. Sox lineup...Astros lineup not available yet Red Sox 1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF 2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B 3. J.D. Drew, RF 4. Manny Ramirez, LF 5. Mike Lowell, 3B 6. Kevin Youkilis, 1B 7. Jason Varitek, C 8. Julio Lugo, SS Josh Beckett, SP
  11. Boston Red Sox vs. Houston Astros 2:05 PM ET at Minute Maid Park in Houston Texas Josh Beckett (7-5, 3.73 ERA) vs. Brian Moehler (4-3, 4.03 ERA)
  12. yea, but retroactive to June 17th. He's already had at least one rehab outing in Pawtucket
  13. I really gotta think Okie is the only major concern at this point
  14. are you John Henry's financial advisor or something?
  15. especially with James Shields in line to pitch the opener against Justin Masterson
  16. MLB announced today that Coco's suspension was reduced from 7 games to 5 games beginning with tomorrow's Astros game meaning that he will conveniently miss the Tampa series and be eligible to return for the first game of the Yankee series

    bah, beat me to it
  18. 1) People thought he was done after his injury in '06 and his .238 batting average. He bounced back a bit last season hitting .255 with a nice .367 OBP so for now, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. 2) I know, I'm just responding to all sentiments in this thread as well as yours. 3) I agree, it's hard to complain about the offense as a whole this year. I really don't see how Kottaras is looking ready for the bigs with a .228 average. Granted he has a nice OBP, but c'mon, .228?!
  19. look, as recently as 11 days ago, Varitek was batting .254 with a .330 OBP which is a lot closer to his career numbers than his current numbers are so while he isn't an offensive powerhouse, he also isn't as bad as his current numbers suggest and just like Lowell, Pedroia, Drew, Papi, Manny and Youkilis, he also isn't immune to slumps its unfair to Varitek to suggest that just cause he's in a slump, we need to go to a platoon of Kevin Cash and George Kottaras and in the end, through all this, the Sox are third in baseball in runs scored, behind Texas, who have no pitching and Chicago, arguably the best team in baseball
  20. Garza had a fascinating outing through 6 before Hanley took him yard
  21. I think a team that features an ideal lineup of Ellsbury, Pedroia, Papi, Manny, Drew, Lowell and Youkilis at the top can live with the offensive shortcomings Varitek has at this point of his career
  22. I don't really trust Lopez either but he's quietly had a pretty good season. He's only allowed 3 earned runs in his last 19 innings and he's been used in just about every bullpen role.
  23. Papi took some swings at Fenway today and said he's 2-3 weeks away from returning although I have a feeling the FO will keep him out until after the ASB
