id love to see d young in boston. we need to move on from kevin millar and get some power at 1B. Ryan Howard might be tough to get because he is only 24 and the Phillies.
Big upgrade power wise (16 hr) average is .250
1 negative is he has only played 28 games at 1B this year but is a .990 career fielder at 1B. (which is average since ortz also has a .990 career pct.)
Scouting Report----
Hitting
A switch-hitter, Young has fast hands and loves to jump on first-pitch fastballs. His hand-eye coordination is excellent. For a hitter who does not walk much, he does not strike out much, either. He is balanced in his stance and covers both side of the plate well. He takes the ball to all different fields. Young is a better hitter lefthanded than righthanded, but he might have more power righthanded.
Baserunning & Defense
Young has gotten bigger with age, but he remains a good athlete. Last season, he was thrust mostly in the role of DH upon his return from the disabled list. His best position is first base-he did not make an error there in 25 games last season. In 2003, Young played 61 games in the outfield, but last season, because he was coming off a leg injury, it was just two. He is a below-average outfielder, but he will make the routine play and throw to the right base. Young's worst position is third. Putting him there is a stretch at this stage of his career. He has below-average speed, but he is a smart baserunner who runs hard at all times
