  7. BREAKING NEWS- Manny trade "close to dead" All But Dead Manny Ramirez wants out of Boston, but he apparently won't get his wish. The proposed three-team deal that would've sent Ramirez to the Mets likely won't happen, reports Jayson Stark.
  8. its unlikely, but still possible
  9. tampa will not trade cantu whos 23 and going to be one of their best players for the next couple of years. there not going to trade kazmir(whos only 22) also. they are looking to get younger not trade their young guys for expensive guys in there 30's.
  10. BRONX, New York (Ticker) - The New York Yankees need so much help with their pitching that they will even take someone from the hated Boston Red Sox. The Yankees on Saturday signed lefthanded reliever Alan Embree, who was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on July 19 and released Friday.
  11. i like that trade much better than the first one. milledge is a better prospect than hanley and were getting a young pticher also.
  12. Updated: July 30, 2005, 1:20 PM ET Mets prospect Milledge key piece to trade puzzle The proposed three-team trade involving the Red Sox, New York Mets and Tampa Bay Devil Rays -- with Boston outfielder Manny Ramirez at the heart of it -- is still alive and still being discussed, baseball sources said Saturday. The proposal took on a different look late Friday into Saturday, however. The Red Sox would acquire Mets outfielder Mike Cameron and pitcher Aaron Heilman, and Devil Rays outfielder/designated hitter Aubrey Huff; the Mets would get Ramirez, reliever Danys Baez and shortstop Julio Lugo; and the Devil Rays would still get four prospects, but the prospects are being reconsidered. An official with one of the three teams told ESPN.com that the Mets never walked away from the deal Friday night over money. Rather, it was over their reluctance to let go of Lastings Milledge, one of their top prospects. Saturday, however, the Mets have softened on that stance. If Milledge is still included in the current proposal, Red Sox prospect Hanley Ramirez gets thrown into the mix. Milledge would potentially go to the Red Sox, and Ramirez would get shipped to Tampa Bay. Meanwhile, the Toronto Blue Jays have talked to the Red Sox as well and made an "inquisitive call" about Manny Ramirez, sources said. Late Friday, the Red Sox, Mets and Devil Rays had decided that if they couldn't get a deal patched by noon Saturday, they would have no choice but to move on, an executive with one of the teams said late Friday night. Major League Baseball's trade deadline is 4 p.m. ET on Sunday. "If there are any complications involving Manny's contract, or any financial ramifications [such as luxury tax or deferral issues, they] would require the approval of the commissioner's office," the executive said. "So this is not the kind of deal you can do at 3:59 p.m. Sunday." Given that deadline, the executive said, "it's looking like it's not going to happen. Time's just running out. At some point it just becomes too late." According to a baseball official familiar with the discussions, the proposed trade "hit a roadblock" late Friday. In addition to the initial proposal of Ramirez and Baez being sent to the Mets, the Red Sox would acquire Huff and Cameron, and the Devil Rays receiving two prospects apiece from New York and Boston. But a source said the Red Sox felt they could not go ahead with trading Ramirez and two prime prospects -- reportedly catcher Kelly Shoppach and right-hander Anibal Sanchez -- if all they were receiving was Cameron and Huff. So they went back to the Mets "for more pieces," the source reported. At that point, the Mets "squashed the whole thing" and talks broke off. A baseball man with knowledge of the discussions said the Red Sox asked the Mets for a "key player," whom the Mets felt they couldn't trade. It is believed that Milledge was this player. An official of another club that spoke with the Mets on Friday night said the Mets also had reservations about going ahead with the deal because they would have had to assume all $64 million of Ramirez's contract, and that would have put them both over budget and over the luxury-tax threshold. 13. but thank god this crappy trade wont happen. the only trade i would agree to is Manny (maybe even shoppach and anibal) for albert pujols.
  14. theres still a chance that he could be traded. their reportedly talking to several teams about him.
  15. bensons a #4 starter who probaly isnt worthy of being in the redsox rotation. looper is an ok reliever. I think they should package those two guys for a burnett or wagner.
  16. i think we should just leave manny alone. theres no trade thats going to benefit the redsox involving Manny.he'll probaly say he loves boston in 2 weeks
  17. i just dont want to give up anibal and manny for average guys
  18. whered you hear that? i think thats the trade the redsox wanted and the mets backed off from.
  19. jayson stark sayd the redsox asked the mets for a "key piece" on the mets and the mets walked away. wonder who the key piece was the red sox wanted and mets wouldnt give up.
  20. Three-team megadeal hits late snag A proposed three-team deal involving the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Tampa Bay Devil Rays "hit a roadblock" Friday night, according to a baseball official familiar with the discussions. The deal proposed would have sent unhappy Boston slugger Manny Ramirez and Tampa Bay closer Danys Baez to the Mets, with the Red Sox acquiring outfielder/designated hitter Aubrey Huff and outfielder Mike Cameron, and the Devil Rays getting two prospects apiece from the Mets and Red Sox. But with a 4 p.m. ET deadline looming Sunday, it could be too late to finish the blockbuster on time. "I don't know if it's completely dead," said an official of one of the three teams. "But it's hit a roadblock … unless someone has some other thoughts." A source said the Red Sox felt they could not go ahead with trading Ramirez and two prime prospects -- reportedly catcher Kelly Shoppach and right-hander Anibal Sanchez -- if all they were receiving was New York's Cameron and Tampa Bay's Huff. So they went back to the Mets "for more pieces," the source reported. At that point, the Mets "squashed the whole thing" and talks broke off. What's uncertain now is whether the deal can be revived, or even whether any portion of it can be revived. The Mets had been talking separately to the Devil Rays about Baez, and the Red Sox had been talking with Tampa Bay about Huff. Then on Friday afternoon, the teams made an attempt to connect the two trades. The Devil Rays were described by sources as being ecstatic about the prospects they would have received -- the Mets were prepared to include right-hander Yusmeiro Petit and outfielder Lastings Milledge -- so they're expected to keep pressing the Mets and Red Sox to put the pieces back together. But if those efforts take all weekend, "by that time the deadline will be over," said an official of one of the three teams. And that might leave all three clubs empty-handed at the deadline. So the most likely scenario now is that the teams make one more effort Saturday to see if there's another combination that works. And if not, they would be forced to move on to Plan B. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2119978
  21. SAN DIEGO -- The Texas Rangers plan to trade pitcher Chan Ho Park to the San Diego Padres for slugger Phil Nevin, a deal that awaited approval from the commissioner's office. If the league OKs it, then it's a done deal," Padres manager Bruce Bochy said Friday before his team played the Cincinnati Reds. "Obviously, we've talked to Texas. There's nothing official yet. Nev's aware of it. Chan Ho's aware of it." Rangers spokesman Gregg Elkin also said the trade was pending approval from the commissioner's office. Park was scratched just before his scheduled start in Toronto on Friday night and left the ballpark. Approval was needed because the deal involves the Rangers sending cash to San Diego to help offset the money remaining on the $65 million, five-year contract Park signed with Texas before the 2002 season. Less than an hour after Bochy spoke, Nevin told reporters he expected to be a member of the Rangers by Saturday. "I'm going to go in and say goodbye to my teammates and start packing and get my stuff ready to go to Toronto," Nevin said. "I'm excited. I honestly am. It's an opportunity to play, it's a great organization, there's some great people there that I do know from a long time ago. I'm just excited to get over there." Nevin blocked a proposed trade to Baltimore for pitcher Sidney Ponson on Monday. But the slugger's limited no-trade clause did not include the right to refuse a deal to Texas. Nevin, who mostly played first base for the Padres the past two years, was hitting .256 with nine homers and 47 RBI. He probably will get a chance to be the regular designated hitter for Texas. Park is 8-5 with a 5.66 ERA in 20 starts this season. Since signing his big deal three years ago to become the Rangers' No. 1 starter, the 32-year-old right-hander is 22-23 in 68 starts. He has been on the disabled list five times, plagued primarily by back problems. John Wasdin started for Texas on Friday night instead of Park.
