according to the herald, matt lawton would love to play for the redsox. i think he'd be a pretty good choice. hes batting .275 with 10 hr and also has 16 stolen bases.

They've asked about Florida's A.J. Burnett, but the Marlins won't deal him within the division. They've tried to run end arounds to get Burnett in a three-team deal. No dice. The Phillies have tried to get Bronson Arroyo or Wade Miller from Boston, but the Red Sox are in the Burnett sweepstakes and would have to include Arroyo to make that deal happen. They've contacted Tampa Bay about reliever Danys Baez. The Phillies are one of the teams trying to get Baez, and the reason is they believe they can trade closer Billy Wagner for a starting pitcher. Both the Red Sox and White Sox have indicated to Philadelphia they might be interested in sending A.J. Burnett there in exchange for Wagner if they could get Burnett from the Marlins.
