As far as the NFL's announcement goes, there was no way they could let the poor performance of the ref's go without comment. Saturday's calls might have had some controversy, but Sunday's were horrendous. I'm sure you watched some or all of the games, you got to admit there were some horrible calls on Sunday.
I hate it when people generalize, with phrases like no, never, everyone, etc. I am a Pats fan. I chose not to comment on who's the better team because its an obvious answer. Teams that turn the ball over 5 times don't usually win an NFL playoff game ( or any game for that matter ). Out of the five, four were a direct result of the Denver defense. That isn't a bad bounce or a blown call, it's hard nose football. As fans, we've all seen that following a turnover, most teams will go for a quick score ( tends to demoralize a team ). Well that's exactly what Denver did. Just good football. But by doing this, their offensive statistics were somewhat skewed to the short field ( which they earned do to the defensive takeaways ). The Pats however, were usually starting from their 20-35 yard line. Thus, they continued to pile up yards and time of possession until the drive stalled, turned the ball over, or scored. Therefore, comparing the offensive statistics isn't relevant without considering the all important equalizer, the turnovers.
One last point. The Pats fans have in recent years been able to boast that the Pats were true champions because we not only beat the teams in the playoffs, but we beat them during the season as well. Well that is what Denver did to the Pats. As a Pats fan, I don't like it ( I won't resort to the lame excuse of "we were injured", because injuries are part of football ), but that's what happened. So yes, Denver was the better team. I'll watch till the Super Bowl, take a few weeks off, then it's Spring Training.
