  1. Exactly. The assigned seats have been "sold out ".
  2. I'll throw in my two cents. We can all argue the metrics of various players, both newly acquired and those that have left. But all are just indicators of "potential" performance, metrics it is not a science, just a mathematical application of probabilities. These are made on various assumptions as to the weighting ( relevance ) of the data. Some have become stronger indicators than others, but they aren't exact. They can't be, because they are based on the performance of human beings which involves a totally different set of criteria. Basically its their mental capabilities, mind set, attitude etc. This is why psychology is an inexact discipline, there is no definitive way to accurately judge a person's mental state, nor how to correct it. For instance is he worried about his marriage, family, health ( injuries he's been hiding due to contracts, his future, etc. ). Basically, a positive mental attitude, relates to confidence in your ability. There is no current statistic to measure this. Although, we all heard of phrases like; "I'm seeing the ball better", " I'm in a hot streak", "The ball just isn't droping in", ect. I guess what I'm saying, as a sports fan is, my team is the Red Sox, and every year is a new year and starts with a clean slate. This means that, I hope the injured heal, new acquisitions perform as expected ( or better ), and the rookies live up to their hype. A true fan never goes into a season saying things like; " we're going to suck" or " the only way we're going win is if other teams are decimated by injures". I ,for one, enter this season with my eternal optimism.
  3. Come on, the man's attempting to make amends. You're making a response to a posting from a totally different thread, and then asking about the validity of this thread ? Nice logic.
  4. You just answered your own question. You can change your avatar anytime you like ( within the talksox rules ), its a personal choice.
  5. Nice dream, but when you wake up, we're stuck with reality.
  6. I'm sorry, a hate to be a pessimist here, but there's no way Roger comes back to pitch in Boston period. He is at combination of one of the most talented and most self centered pitchers ever. He also sucks as a "big game" pitcher. He signed a big contract while with Boston, let him self get out of shape. The went to the Jays , in shape, and pitched great ( but not clutch ). Went to Yanks and basically did the same thing. Then went to Houston under a "Roger" contract, again great stats but sucked in the clutch. So we should sign him for $17 million plus. I don't think so. He certainly won't give a discount. He will also suck in the play-offs. I see this as just a PR move ( at least I hope so ).
  7. My understanding was $ 11 million spread out over 3 years. The distribution ( front or back loading or straight line ) wasn't released to the best of my knowledge. I would guess something like: 4,4,3. This was done to : (1) reduce the cost of Renteria's overpaid contract, and to lesson the impact on the Sox both from an operational and luxury tax implications. From an accounting point of view, this cost would then be associated with the acquired player, Marte. Marte was then essentially traded for Crisp. Crisp was signed to a one year contract ( to avoid arbitration and the related ill will that can create ) for $ 2.75 million to this we add the 4 million. Resulting in a cost of $ 6.75 million for this year. Assuming that he produces, his cost will rise, due to the fact he is arbitration eligible the next two years. Therefore, the Sox will either sign him to a new contract or pay the increased cost of arbitration, either way his cost will increase. Personally, I think they (FO ) over paid for Renteria and refused to do this for Damon ( money + years ). Current : Renteria / Marte Deal...... $ 4.00 million Crisp 1 yr. Contract............ 2.75 Cost for Crisp this year.... $ 6.75 million Cost for A. Gonzalez........ $ 3.00 Total Cost.................... $ 9.75 million If we kept Renteria & Damon : Damon's current contarct..... $ 13 million Renteria's contract..................10 million Total Cost........................ $ 23 million

  12. There were two contests. One was the play-off contest, it was won by CalvnHobs6. Who won on a tie breaker the total points scored. The second contest was for total points scored. To win you had to pick the winner of the Super Bowl and be closest to the total points scored. If you picked Seattle, you were eliminated, it would then be the closest to the total points scored by the members that picked Pittsburgh. In this case, Soxfan#1.
