Growing up in my formative years in New York cannot me matched with growing up at any other time, and I wouldn't trade those memories for all the money you could give this 65 year old war horse. My favorite Ebbets Field moment was the July 4th, 1951 double header between the Giants and the Dodgers. Those teams, the most rabid rivalry in sports back then, played many times during the 4th of July, often double headers. I loved this day. We came back against Sal Maglie in the first game after we were trailing 4-0, and with homers by Campy and Pee Wee got back in the game and eventually tied it in the ninth and won it in extra innings. The second game saw Ralph Branca pitch a complete game, 4-2 win, with help from homers by Duke and Gil. A great day I will never forget.
