  1. So we are in agreement 45/120 is bold. Id be happy with 30+ this year, hitting in the .270-.280 range. If he is making that kind of contact, the other abstract numbers will be there by default with his potential (OB%,OPS,OPS+, WAR)
  2. There is. He is on the 40 man roster. By releasing him outright.....they could re-sign him to a minor league deal and assign him to AAA, without taking up a roster spot.
  3. They will still need to spend significant money to replace a big market SS and a #3 pitcher on a championship team. Would you rather pay Betts all that money, or sign an upgrade over Porcello, re-sign Bogaerts and have a replacement level player in RF? We can still improve the team without re-signing Betts, by allocating the money to the starting roration, or bullpen. In most professional sports, you need horses over ponies.....NBA is one of them, NHL too.....NFL QB horses win way more than ponies. In baseball, you can sacrifice having some ponies in the lineup, as long at your pitching rotation is filled with horses.
  4. It doesn't dampen my parade at all!!!!!!! They made the right decision. They should have outright released him, and then signed him to a minor league deal. nobody is going to claim him, and they could save money and a roster spot.
  5. It is literally impossible to "walk alot" and still get 4256 hits. Pete Rose had 1566 career walks because he played until he was 45 years old when he retired. He averaged about 71 walks a year. Bill Mueller averaged 72 walks a year.
  6. I don't want to s*** on all the research you did, but I agree with Bellhorn. All that matters is......which Catcher the Sox feel is more valuable. The fact that they are fudging an injury for Pedroia to keep all 3, suggests that they are (A) still looking for trade options for Leon, ( trying to convince him to take a minor league assignment.....or © are really dragging their feet designating Swihart. With other recent releases around baseball in terms of defensive catchers......I really don't understand what the hold up is. Cut Leon. Hopefully he gets drowned in the mess of other reject backup catchers......and we take a chance that we can sign him later on, if need be.
  7. They WILL release him. Nobody will pick him up. His defense is pretty good, he f***ing blows offensively. He hit .177 last year in 265 AB's. His OB% was .232. There are AAA catchers who are equal defensively, and produce as much offensively. There are 30 MLB teams. Each team has at least 2 catchers, so, minimum of 60 catchers......he is in the 55-60 range.
  8. Are you a Yankees fan? Sorry, I havent been around for a couple years. Mike Torrez pitched in 31 games total, for 217 innings in a Yankees uniform. You are really that upset about those 217 innings 36 years later?
  9. I love you MVP, I really do. But he is gone man. Its really not even close, certainly not worth a disagreement about. Again, The Redsox have the highest payroll in MLB, and thats without paying Betts, Bogaerts, Benintendi, Devers, Sale etc. They are on the hook for huge money on deals with players that havent played for us in years. We have 2 more years of Betts left. He does not intend to negotiate until he is a FA, when other teams throw unworldly amounts of money at him. Hopefully, we win another WS in the next 2 years. That softens the sting when he eventually leaves. In the end, if we win another WS and he leaves, then fine......guy wants to get paid. If we dont win in his remaining 2 years, thats when the sting hurts most, when we lose him to the highest bidder and we are left high and dry......with no replacements in the minors.
  10. Mike Stanley. I loved Mike Stanley. Soooo underrated, career .370 OBP, .827 OPS. Always thought he would be a great MLB Manager.
  11. If he figures things out, and learns how to approach an AB.......he will be a monster. I said earlier he could hit 30 homers. I don't think that is really that much of a stretch, I actually expect him to hit at least 30. If he figures out the strike zone, and approaches AB's better.......he could hit 40 homers. He has INCREDIBLE power to all fields, and the ability to hit righty/lefty. We need to be patient, weve already seen the talent, weve already seen the ability......lets be patient while he figures it out. Defensively, Jacko said he would move to 1B. Thats a possibility. He has huge frame, maybe too big for 3B, his arm is what hurts his defensive numbers the most. He could end up being a very good defensive 1B'man.
  12. It was more than that. John Flaherty retired in spring training because he didn't want to be Wakefield's catcher, and Josh Bard was terrible as his "personal" catcher. Those circumstances are a little different than Leon. Varitek refused to catch Wakefield, Flaherty retired and Bard couldn't do it. Mirabelli, for whatever reason, had an ability to do it.
  13. No. And they arent getting anything for him either. He has value to us, because Sale likes him. He has no value to any other team. They will end up releasing him.
  14. Everyone is forgetting that he is 22. Most "big time" prospects are still in AA at his age. He hit 21 homers last year as a 21 year old. I'd say he will be around 30 this year. We aren't giving him enough credit for what hes done at his age.
  15. If this is true, then Swihart is gone. Leon has no value to anyone else except for Porcello and Sale. I really hope they keep Swihart though.
  16. Barnes will literally s*** his pants on the mound. You will literally see a brown streak down the leg of his pants. He could barely be trusted in a high pressure spot last year.....now he is going to be attempting to close out ALL the high pressure spots? He will s***, piss and puke. He will be begging Cora to go back to the 6th or 7th innings where the pressure isnt nearly as high.
  17. Once the season starts, Kimbrel is already 6 weeks behind everyone else. He isn't very sharp to begin with, you sure you want to take your chances a couple months down the road? This season is a lost season for him. There is a chance he doesn't pitch again, because he valued himself so high.....and the value in the eyes of potential suiters is dropping by the day. Does he swallow his pride and take a huge paycut? In his eyes, last year was his huge payday.....and that hasn't worked out for him. You think he comes back at some massively decreased salary?
  18. I hate professional sports. I liked professional sports much more when all I cared about was getting a Diamond King in a 1992 Donruss Pack or hitting a home run with my favorite player in World Series Baseball, or Triple Play 96. The business side of it ruins it for the fans. How much money is enough?
  19. The Redsox payroll is already through the roof (highest in the MLB, by 13 Million), while players like Betts, Benintendi, Bogaerts and Bradley are making chump change. I've said it a bunch of times now, he is GONE. The Trout deal pretty much seals the end of Betts in Boston, if it hadn't been sealed yet. Again, remember......Betts, Benintendi, Bogaerts and Bradley....along with Sale, and others....are all coming to the end of their deals. We can't sign them all.
  20. No he won't. Unfortunately for me, I don't think Swihart will be either. Everything I've read and heard....is that Swihart is the odd man out.
  21. My recollection of this is different than yours. My recollection is that Pedro did not want to come out, and Grady didn't want to override Pedro's wishes. Not sure what got lost in the messages, but no, I did not want Kimbrell back, but I also wanted a better option than "bullpen by committee".
  22. Great, yes.....but he has the chance to be more than that. If he ever gets a handle on the strike zone, or learns how to approach at bats......oh boy....everyone forgets. He was 21 last year! He debuted as a 20 year old!!!! Thats unheard of these days. The typical draft pick is 22/23 when then are drafted, then take 1-3 years before they make it to MLB. Think about that. The average prospect is 23-26 years old before he contributes. Devers was contributing before the age he was allowed to buy alcohol. Or definitely yes.
  23. That wont happen. Mirabelli could at least hit a little. We wont have to trade to get him back, we can just sign him off his couch, since nobody else will pay him to not hit, and play average defense.
  24. Didn't realize that Vasquez made more than the other 2. Leon is older than the other 2. Leon sucks. You should get used to the fact that he is gone. If he somehow sticks around as Sale's binky, you should feel lucky. Make no mistake though. He f***ing sucks.
  25. As much as I have read, the Sox don't have a farm system. No reason to project Devers out that far. FWIW, if Devers goes anywhere, its DH. A s***** 3B'man doesnt make a good 1B'man. See Bobby Bonilla, Jim Thome, Mark McGwire for examples.
