  1. He's getting a synthetic lubricant injected into his knee because they removed scarred cartilege when he had arthroscopic surgery. The removed cartilege can result in bone on bone friction which causes the player pain, and the lubricant reduces that pain. Randy Johnson had the same thing done in 2004 after his arthroscopic surgery. From what I've read/heard, this is pretty routine.
  2. I noticed the same thing.
  3. Who the hell cares? Now those #30 jerseys are unique, and if an owner happens to be upset, they can take it to a seamstress and have the "0" removed and the "3" centered for less than $20. Complete non-story, non-issue if you ask me, and that is why you haven't heard anything about it yet. Nobody thought it was important enough to report about it on the national level.
  4. I'm all over this. Is the brackett weighted or constant for successive rounds?
  5. Next year is Cabrera's first arbitration year. He'll get big bucks then and truck-loads after three years of arbitration when he hits free-agency. If Florida is still in penny-pinch mode next offseason, I can see him getting dealt, but it will take 3-4 very good prospects to get him IMO.
  6. The Adam Stern on the big-club experiment will end soon; it will end after the 18th game of the season, then they can send him down to Pawtuckett. At this point, with at least two MiLB prospects ahead of him on the depth chart, I think the FO is just hoping for a breakout AAA season which would increase his value to at least that of a pouch of Big League Chew.
  7. Yeah, Papelbon was 90-92, Hansen 92-93, Santana 87-89. That makes me suspect the gun was either a little off or was picking the pitches up closer to the batter since Santana is usually 91-93, Papelbon 93-95, Hansen 94-96. If it was picking the ball up closer to the batter, you can expect 3-4 mph below the release velocity since a 90 mph fastball will actually be about 83 at the plate.
  8. I think I only saw one that stuck in my mind. His second pitch to Shannon Stewart to start the game seemed to drop and dive to the right, low and away from Stewart, and he got him to chase.
  9. I thought he was spotting the FB pretty well, just like last year, but he was throwing a lot more breaking pitches. The bomb Hunter hit was on a hanger. I think it's good he's trying to get those secondary pitches game-ready, because he can't live on the FB alone.
  10. I'll be upset if that B-level prospect isn't corner power.
  11. I'm well aware of that, which makes me skeptical that he'll draw much interest in the trade market (unless someone gets hurt). As it stands right now, I think he has more value to the team on the roster than in the trade market.
  12. No offense to Tony, but if he rides the pine in Boston, that is exactly what he deserves since he's the one that accepted arbitration after the Sox had already traded for Loretta. If they can't get something they like in return, they should keep him because he'd be one hell of a bench player. Man do these MIN announcers have a bad research team. Murphy just came over from the Houston organization? News to me.
  13. Tony G flashing the leather. I'd love to keep that guy on the bench.
  14. I hope that hit leather and not bone.
  15. Just got home from the supermarket. Missed the top of the first. I'm streaming online example1 without any problems.
  16. I'll tell you what it takes in my book, an EqA better than 84th out of 255 position players that made at least 225* outs. Soriano's EqA (an all-inclusive offensive stat that incorporates H, TB, SB, CS, BB, HBP, and IBB into the total plate appearances and adjusts for park effects) was .283. League average is .260. He was the 8th best out of 30 second basemen with at least 225* outs. He's a good player, but he's completely overrated offensively. Everyone loves him because he hits bombs, but there is more to the game. *I picked 225 outs because that was the number that gave me 30 2B and over 240 position players, meaning this represents all the starters in MLB. EDIT: And runs scored, just like RBI, are contextual runs, meaning they aren't an individual skill. He doesn't score runs without someone knocking him in. Anyone hitting in front of Teixeirra and Blalock, or Ortiz and Manny, is going to score a lot of runs.
  17. First game ever: Brewers @ the Orioles First Sox game: Sox @ the Orioles at Memorial Stadium First Fenway game: Rangers @ the Sox last August I grew up in the DC area, so the O's were the closest thing to a home team. Of course, dad and gramps were Sox fans, so I didn't root for the orange birds.
  18. Puckett doesn't belong in the hall, and he shouldn't be the standard others are compared to either.
  19. The knuckle-curve has spin, a consistent break pattern, and is really just a curve-ball thrown with a knuckle-like grip. The knuckle-ball has no spin, or minimal spin, and an inconsistent break pattern. Catching Mussina doesn't make Flaherty ready for Wake. Bard is out of options, so they can't send him down without going through the waiver process.
  20. No, I went back and checked BA, BP, Baseball Analysts, and Baseball HQ for a quick look, and I had it mixed up in my head. Liriano is #1 on every list.
  21. And don't forget his control, 2.35 MiLB and 2.66 MLB BB/9, which was good enough for a 4+ K/BB. He looks like a special one. Guapo, I think it's about 50/50 depending on who's list you are reading, but Cain gets a lot of #1 attention too. I'm pretty sure he's still got prospect status.
  22. I agree, Sheff is a producer when he's on the field. But, Sheff wasn't upset in 2004 when he sacraficed his body for the team. Now he's upset. I doubt he makes any sacrafices for them when he's pissed.
  23. I think they are Rose-colored and pinstriped. Let's not forget Sheff playing the race card in both Milwaukee and LA to get out of town. When this guy gets something in his head, when he finds a reason to be unhappy, he runs with it.
  24. One week into ST and the Sox surplus of SPs is starting to put them in a strong bargaining position. Brian Lawrence - Nationals source: Boston Globe Kip Wells - Pirates source: Rotoworld Carl Pavano - Yankees source: Rotoworld Troy Percival - Tigers source: Rotoworld
