  1. Tough to translate, but I think it's that end of the season timing might not be better. I tend to agree with that. With the games in March, the players are rested and it doesn't cut into their normal off-time. Plus, with the quality of play being as good as it has been, it is a great primer for opening day. If the games are in November there are a few potential problems. First, I think less players would be willing to cut into their down-time. Second, a 162 game season is a grind, and while their skills are sharp, they are worn down by the end of October. Last, I think it markets better during ST.
  2. Simple RSR, he's a Yankee fan, not a baseball fan. He just wants his guys back in the Yankee camp ASAP. Not I said the baseball guy. I liked the idea of this tournament from the get go, and after watching the first few games (last week and today), I love this tourney. I'll bet by the end of it, several of the dropouts will be kicking themselves for not participating.
  3. I think that 4 game performance is entirely unrelated to who was behind the plate. Look at Wake's game-logs and you will see that the 4-games prior to Mirabelli's injury Wake wasn't exactly red-hot. Varitek just caught him during a cold-stretch, which was compounded by the fact that 3 of the teams he caught him for were top-10 run scoring teams, and that is all that happened. This, IMO, is good news. Flaherty is gone, Huckaby is hurt, so Bard gets the job for the next couple of weeks. And, I think the most important thing is familiarity, which is exactly what will happen over the next few weeks as Bard catches Wake in his ST appearances and during practice.
  4. I'd say. Didn't he hit a bomb against the 'Stros in the only at-bat they gave him pitches to hit?
  5. He is so fun to watch at the plate.
  6. D.R. vs Venezuela is about to start. It will be Johan Santana against Bartolo Colon. Damn, I wish I'd tried to get tickets earlier, this looks like the best game of the opening rounds.
  7. True, I was just being respectful.
  8. I doubt Seanez gets cut before the season starts. If he gets cut, who takes his spot? Most likely a rookie that has options. What then if the rookie can't hack it? They'd have to either accept a bad pitcher taking a roster spot, give up something of value in a trade, or find some drek on the waiver wire to replace him. Seanez will start the season on the 25-man, IMO. If he can't hack it in Boston his second time around, then they'll cut him by mid-May and call either Hansen or Delcarmen up. Right now, he provides insurance and flexibility, so they should give him a shot. They'll know very quickly if he can't pitch high-leverage innings, so he won't lose them more than a game or two before he is replaced. Same thing applies to Riske and Tavares.
  9. RIP Kirby. I rescind my comments about you not deserving the HOF, may all those that know and love you find strength at this sad time.
  10. I'm sorry you feel singled out, and I do recognize that some do care. By saying "Who the hell cares?", I meant it in a rhetorical sense. I wasn't expecting an answer, but merely expressing my disinterest. I'll admit, my way of expressing myself can seem gruff at times, so I apologize if it rubs you the wrong way. But, despite our past disagreements, I don't intentionally try and get under your skin whenever I respond to one of your posts.
  11. Who said anything about the last time you were here? Plenty of stuff worthy of discussion has happened in the month you have been gone. But, lo-and-behold, you only show up to post when an offseason acquisition has a rough outing in a meaningless ST game in an attempt to piss people off. I can't think of a more obvious case of trolling. Truth hurts, doesn't it?
  12. Where have I insulted you? By saying I don't think you can read? That's not an insult, that's an observation based on how you accused me of disrespecting someone when nothing in my posts have been disrespectful to the player in question.
  13. Can you read? I mean, really read and understand what the words mean? If so, I'd love for you to show where I disrespected Griffey. FWIW, I don't just care about the Red Sox. I'm a baseball fan first and foremost; the Red Sox just happen to be the team I root for. Don't believe me? Then why have I gone to 3 college games in the last week and a half, why am I going to the Dominican Republic vs. Australia WBC game, why am I going to a Nat's vs. Dodgers ST game in a week or so? I love baseball. I just don't happen to find any importance or interest in what number a player has on his back. If you could read, you would recognize that as the only point I have made in this thread.
  14. Jeez man, stop getting your panties all twisted. I'm not singling you out in this case; I honestly feel whatever number a player wears is irrelevant to the game of baseball. Had a Sox player changed numbers my response would have been the same. Some here have speculated about what number Beckett or Crisp will wear, but no thread has been started. Rest assured, when one is started, I'll chime in.
  15. If you act like a troll, then you get called a troll. That's how the world works, deal with it.
  16. You won't find a ticket. The D.R. vs. Venezuela game was sold out a month ago when I ordered tickets to Friday's D.R. vs Australia game. Good luck.
  17. I agree RS. I'd rather have Papelbon starting games in AAA than relieving in the bigs. He needs to continue to work as a starter to complete the transition from reliever to starter. Let him be in the 'Tuckett rotation and he gets the nod when/if someone goes down.
  18. I could have sworn you were just here to talk baseball. Your disappearing act followed by a reappearance to just post this is a little transparent, don't you think? It didn't take you long to show that you spend the majority of your time under a bridge.
  19. Seanez' contract: I'd hardly classify his contract as hefty. At $2.1M, it won't kill them to eat it if he's not getting the job done.
  20. Where do you get the idea that I'm upset? You started an inane thread and I let you know it, so there's no need to read between the lines and extract more meaning than that.
  21. It wasn't harsh; it was honest. I can't fathom why anyone would care about this.
  22. Varitek signed on December 24; Damon signed on December 21. I don't see how that means the Yankee offer never hits the table had they proceeded like they did with Varitek, and I don't think the Boston FO matches or exceeds the Yankee offer.
  23. With 2 pitchers being 40+ years old and another with a history of blister problems, I think it would make sense to go into the season with everyone they have right now. If everything is clicking and nobody has needed significant DL time, then they can make a move before the deadline. Of course, if someone gets desperate for pitching and is offering a package that fills a need (corner power, catching prospect, good 4th OF), then they should make a move before then.
  24. NFL - Cardinals @ the Redskins NHL - Flyers @ the Capitals NBA - Supersoncis @ the Bullets
  25. Most memorable sporting event? Redskins vs. Vikings in the '87 NFC Championship game at RFK. Darrell Green thwarts a late-fourth quarter 4th and goal pass to preserve a 17-10 win. Pandemonium.
