  1. Youk looks better than he has in weeks. Crisp is starting to get on more regularly. That's encouraging. It would be a really good time to get hot.
  2. WMP's not been a 4th OF though. He was very valuable subbing for Coco when injured. Now he's the everyday RF with Trot hurt yet again. In between, he was hurt so it wasn't like he was rotting on the bench. I think the first half of the year that trade favored the Reds, but Arroyo becoming more familiar to the NL hitters and WMP mashing, I think we've reached the point where it starts turning our way.
  3. Good start to both halves of the inning.
  4. Anyone got a link for Jones clearing waivers? Everything I've read said he was placed on waivers today.
  5. Since I'm not a Yankee history buff and was unaware of the anniversary, the timing seemed odd. I did, however, say that I gave her the benefit of the doubt due to her normally very respectful tone here. That qualifier means I agree with you about it not being a big deal. Talk about ridiculous. Speaking of ridiculous, I can't believe you still complain about what you have to "endure" here. If it's such thorn in your side, don't come back. I doubt many tears will be shed.
  6. Yeah, you are right, once a player has cleared waivers, then the team is free to trade him to whoever they want. If somebody other than the intended trading team claims him, then they can recall him from waivers. Putting him on waivers could indicate a willingness to trade him, however, a lot of times teams will put several players on waivers to muddle the pool. They have no intention of trading some of those they put on waivers, so it's tough to say what a team wants to do once someone clears.
  7. Right now, the Yankees are in first by percentage points, so they can't block. I think a tie-breaker would be based on how they finished last year. I don't know this, but the waiver hierarchy for the first 30 days of the season is established by that, so I would imagine that would be it.
  8. Hmmm. The Red Sox captain and catcher -- same person -- just went down to injury. If that isn't a big school-yard, "NEENER NEENER NEENER!", then I don't know what is. Given your history here of not doing that much, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but don't be surprised if some think you are green and live under a bridge.
  9. Easily the 4 from Milwaukee.
  10. The one on the left.
  11. That's a reach. The Angels ERA was good last year, but that wasn't due to him any more than Toronto's is. Good pitchers have low ERAs, bad ones don't. Toronto has sent quite a few bad, or at least inconsistent, pitchers out to the mound this year. They've tried to nail down a way of statistically showing how well a catcher handles a staff. The problem is, the data is just too limited, and there are too many variables that can affect the study to reach a reliable conclusion. EDIT: The Bard situation was an unfortunate turn of events. That is the baggage of having a knuckleball catcher.
  12. He's a top catching prospect. He'd get snatched up in a heartbeat, forcing the Braves to recall him from waivers. Do you know how the waiver process works from Aug 1 - Aug 31?
  13. Fenway has a low HR park factor, but it is still a hitters park due to the monster. It just means that less of those hits are dingers.
  14. Isn't waiver wire salary pro-rated for the time the team has him? I think it is, could be wrong though.
  15. I don't see where it says Epstein turned it down. Kind of hard to get on someone's case for something you don't know they did.
  16. Shake those pom poms. He's done a lot of questionable things, and people are asking questions. Debate the issue instead of doing leg-kicks in the corner.
  17. I disagree. There are too many holes with Tek out now. And, the Oswalt trade, while one I would have liked for the future, still leaves two gaping holes in the rotation and an extra one in the BP. By default, I think the non-move was the right move because this team would still be very flawed with Oswalt on the roster.
  18. Anyone got a link for where it says Epstein turned down those three for Oswalt? I'm genuinely curious. I was too busy at work today, but I thought I read or heard that Houston was the one to nix that deal.
  19. With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, I'm glad they didn't move any of the kids. Tek gets hurt 4 hours after the deadline? No chance to find a suitable replacement? Trot gets hurt 4 hours after Abreu is off the market? Wells, Wake, Clement all hurt? Rotten luck. We are getting dinged just as the Yankees are getting healthy and actually valuable contribution from Jaret Wright. This year won't end well. Oh, and to top it off, Casey Blake is standing on his head against us.
  20. Can't fault him when the ump botched the call.
  21. There is a game thread where you can talk to yourself.
  22. Jobbed. Try a better angle next time you hack, how are you going to call it when you are right in line with the direction the runner is coming from?
  23. Make frumpy pay for the mistake Manny.
  24. I don't like bunting that early. Wouldn't have mattered anyway since Beerabelli popped up. Hey, Blake. You can start playing baseball like Casey Blake any moment now.
