  1. f***. Unlucky. Doesn't help when you are playing like crap too.
  2. Lucky to give up nothing that inning. Everything was hit hard, and he was all over the place.
  3. Maybe as a repeatable skill, but a single event can be clutch. Outside of Ortiz, this team isn't having enough "events". Lovely start to the Yankee game. Damon scores after getting on via error. Podsednik doubles to lead off and gets caught trying to stretch it to a triple. 1-0
  4. A cap won't happen without a floor. A floor won't happen until there is complete revenue sharing -- which would have to come with some accountability in regards to how much the team charges the network that is under the same ownership. If both of those things happen, the Yankees spending power, despite circumvention of the rules, won't be as substantially larger than everyone else's. KC, Minnesota, Oakland, Tampa, Florida, and several others won't be the upper-upper minors for the big market clubs that they are now.
  5. The Tigers lead the league in fielding efficiency. Basically, staff pitching BABIP. The Sox D has good hands, but on the whole their range is lacking, IMO.
  6. Because, the way you phrase it, it's like you think the Yankees deserve some credit for doing something they have no choice about. They follow the rules. Big deal. That's why this article is fluff. There's nothing to this story other than patting the Yankees on the back for doing what they are supposed to do.
  7. But the Yankees don't do them, they are part of the rules. The luxury tax, revenue sharing, and split gate are rules agreed upon by the owners. I don't have the voting records, but I can assure that Big Stein didn't vote for either the luxury tax or revenue sharing, but he has to do them because the majority voted against him.
  8. Your love affair with pre-1960 baseball players makes you seem like a crack-head, Red. Joe Morgan is hands down better than Doerr.
  9. We know this, but thanks for pissing right in the punch bowl. The game thread is the place for optimism and rallying the troops. So.... http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h275/satansnachos/stfu_noob.jpg
  10. And, he's an idiot -- no offense, so are you if you buy it. Sure, revenue sharing and the luxury tax help those teams out, as does the increased gate and concessions (Yankees get 1/2 the gate, BTW). But the current system is extemely inequitable and the Yankees are driving the train. Those funds are table scraps at the MLB revenue table. The fact that the Yankees (first to do it, several have followed in order to keep up) own the network that broadcasts their games enables them to shelter substantial portions of their revenue stream from revenue sharing. Their broadcast packages (the major source of revenue) draw in more dollars than anyone else's -- some pundits have opined that broadcast funds should be shared with the visiting team like the gate $, this I agree with. Baseball will never be fair or equitable until there is a salary cap.
  11. REMEMBER! Remember '04. Times were bleak. The obstacle seemed insurmountable. The opponent seemed too strong. The pitching was getting torched. The bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding. The bats couldn't get a lead. And, then.... Well, then one day the pitching kept them in the game, and the bats came alive, and one man emerged as the best late in the game hitter in baseball. He lead the charge, and he wants to lead again. Follow him. http://www.photofile.com/Photos/Albums/04BaseballPlayoffs/04ALCSgame4OrtizDavidHR.jpg
  12. I fail to see the accuracy of his claim that they aren't driving the train that is disrupting the competitive balance. Nor do I get the relevance of his idea that it would be a bad idea to contract the Yankees -- has that ever been proposed? That is one completely devoid of content fluff piece.
  13. The humor of that commercial is purely satirical, IMO. They are doing the geeky "club dance" to geeky club dance music, and in doing so, they are ridiculing how geeky people act at clubs. It cracks me up.
  14. Barring injury, Tampa puts up 400+ points this year. If the secondary performs, they win it all.
  15. I'll buy it if you just say, "I don't agree with the madness of their methods." Where you lost me is when you say they don't have a clue. Look at the moves/non-moves. They have a plan, and they have stuck to it. You, 700, and even I, to a degree, do not agree with said plan, but it's pretty evident that it is there.
  16. Disagreeing with it is fine, that is your right as a fan. Just recognize that everything that has been done makes sense in terms of sticking to a plan. It's not the plan you want, but such is life as a [insert sport here] fan. Personally, I think it is imprudent to waste opportunities with one of the best 3/4 hitting combos in the history of the game. That said, revenue sharing is enabling teams to keep their stars more often now, and the Sox could be in a situation where they have to rely on the next generation of Matt Clement-heads if they deal their good pitching prospects now.
  17. Disagree with the concept all you want, but let's not ignore the facts. Pedro and Damon were just young enough to command longer deals -- as is evidenced by what the market provided. To make that decision, they had to elect to fill spots with the stopgaps Wells, Clement-head, Seanez, etc. That doesn't mean the youth movement is a farce, because the years 2007 and beyond were the target for what they are doing.
  18. It's on regularly down here, and we don't have NESN. I do see it on NESN when I watch mlb.tv, but it's on regular channels too. I have to admit, I find it funny because it's so retarded. I think that's the point.
  19. I got the impression that it was provided to mean exactly what it actually was intended to mean. I asked so as to not jump to conclusions. Undoubtedly, they are relatively the same age this year, but I think the trends are heading in the opposite direction. Every key cog to this year's Yankee team will be brought back next year -- with the core approaching their mid 30's. Loretta, Wells, Nixon, and possibly the Wake/Mirabelli combo are unlikely to be on the Sox roster next year. These trends were what was being discussed last night in the thread, so they need to be considered for context when arbitrarily throwing average age out there.
  20. Mods, I'm not one to usually call for expulsion, but can we get rid of this guy? These are the only types comments he makes here, and when called on it, he rarely responds. Textbook hit-and-run trolling behavior. Get rid of this trash.
  21. Just got back from dinner. I listened to the end of the game while washing the cars before we went out. This team has no sack right now. They got bitch slapped two games in a row by the f***ing Tampa Bay AAA's. Papi and Manny can't do it alone -- and to be honest, Manny needs to man up a little when they IBB Papi or we'll be seeing Barry Bonds treatment in the future. The 'pen should be on bread and water for a week. Curt needs to go Jim Leyland on their asses. Greg Norton. Russell Branyan. Are you kidding me? They need to f***ing sack up or they're dropping 2 in KC too. f***ing pathetic.
  22. Manny gets a cheapie to extend the streak.
  23. Proctor's turn on the high-wire.
