  1. Scouts checking LaLoosh out at a young age... http://pages.sbcglobal.net/chicocams/nuke.jpg Stop being Nuke LaLoosh, and start being Josh Beckett. It begins today.
  2. That's a bit much. The Yankees do a good job of scouting, and their player development speaks for itself. It would take some time for them to get depth in the minors and for the roster to adjust to a new system, but I have a feeling they'd be successful in it. The Devil Rays have some very good position players knocking on the door, but I can't think of a legit pitcher they've scouted, drafted, and developed. I doubt the Yankees would supplant them in the cellar.
  3. Of all the people on this team, you think WMP is the problem and don't want him on the team moving forward? That's almost indefensible.
  4. You'd root for the Yankees over Pedro and the Mets? Shameful.
  5. My point about the subscriptions was that those who don't have a cable service with YES as part of the basic package would either get the upgrade package or switch services. Perhaps that number is smaller than I think, but they do exist. Yeah, the TV network is where it's at. That's why several other big market clubs have their own cable channel. I always catch the Angels on FSN West when I watch on MLB.TV. That market is scary big if they launch their own network.
  6. I'm not trying to support P58's cause, but that's not entirely accurate. A fanbase is everyone who roots for the team -- die hards, bandwagoners, nimrods, fanboys, everyone. You can't just throw out a portion and say they don't count. Personally, I think every fanbase is identical in terms of composition. They all have equal proportions of every type of undesirable fan, and those undesirables are what create sentiments of one fanbase being superior to another.
  7. I never said you had to pay extra. My claim is that YES gets money from every household that gets that channel, whether it be through the cable bill, upgrade packages, what have you.
  8. Ok, don't see what that has to do with anything, but Ok.
  9. Are you suggesting that YES is provided free of charge? I thought you were against a cap, what with your comments about the owners pocketing money. Sorry for the mix up.
  10. Not surprising. Although, I doubt you even read the first post because your response is a bit out of LF in terms of relevance to what he said. What's more likely is you read the title and make a knee-jerk reaction post. You know what they say, fools rush in...
  11. YES is not free. You don't pay for it as an add-on like HBO, but you pay for it. Your subscription is called your cable bill. Are you saying it's a bad thing for teams to have a better shot of winning? Yes, they will have a better shot to contend. Isn't that the point of a cap and floor?
  12. Everybody has said the Sox are on the benefitting end of this system. Is it just me or do you completely suck at reading?
  13. Not for the next 3-4 years. The Yankees and Mets will be exempt from revenue sharing while they build their new stadiums. There will be more FAs to hit the market without that money for the smaller clubs, and only the big boys will be able to afford them. Good news for us, I guess, but the problem will only be worse the next few years.
  14. They are close to maximizing the revenue from their market, but there's still a lot left to pull in. New fans would fill a lot of those empty seats you see at Yankee Stadium. That won't help the gate because most of those games are sold out, but empty seats generate no concessions sales. Correct me if I'm wrong, but not every cable service provides YES. New fans will make sure they switch to watch their new team, which means more subscription premiums -- the YES subscription premiums are the cash cow for the Yankees, biggest TV market in the country. And those same owners who don't spend the coin now would end up very close to the salary floor every year and rarely in contention. What wouldn't happen, however, is a situation where a team wants to win -- like George -- but is limited by the fact that their revenues, both from the team and other businesses, aren't enough to pursue premier talent.
  15. None of that will fix it. If they get the vapid gen-X crowd that will result in greater total revenue, but NY's portion of the pie will be the same percentage it is now. The first "must do" step is complete revenue sharing. A cap won't happen without a floor, and a floor won't happen without the bigger markets sharing some of their riches.
  16. That's a bit much. Message boards are places to share opinions, and not everyone will share the same one. They are respectful of other members, just not Yankee fans - but who cares about that?, and as long as they remain that way, nobody should be suggesting they leave. Here's an idea, discuss the topic instead of telling dissenters to take a hike.
  17. The guy didn't play too hot in the Yankee series, but he's got company there. Since the china doll went down in RF, he's been one of the best producers. Rician, I understand why the crew is getting upset with you. Everyone is clear on your stance regarding the trade, but you don't give WMP credit for the good things he's done; you only chime in when he makes a mistake.
  18. Everyone is making money. Owners will agree to a floor if baseball becomes like the other 3 major sports and agrees to complete revenue sharing. Until then, the status quo will be kept.
  19. I'm watching. Youk doesn't have prototype corner IF power, but he works the pitchers, gets on base a lot and hits lots of LDs. I'll take that with above average D at 1B (3B in the future).
  20. Yeah, I'm going to be liking his range at 2B.
  21. Why is this in the game thread?
  22. Pedroia's first double, here it comes.
  23. The 2006 Boston Red Sox will be the first team in history to find a way to lose a game in the standings anyway. That is pretty undeniable based on what we are seeing.
  24. Dude, Quinlan just stole a base. Catch one f***ing slow ass runner once, just once, you hacks behind the dish.
