  1. Well put. I hope this admin is learning from its mistakes in the FA market. If $32M is the number, it needs to be for premier talent only. No more big money to second tier talent. And, if they can't land the big fish, then leave room to absorb one of those high $$ contracts for a good ball player that are always available near the deadline.
  2. Bingo.
  3. Why do you trust writers more than intelligent fans? Jacksononian brings up a good point, and it will be very difficult to move Clement. Writers throw crap against the wall and hope something sticks. How many times have you seen a writer's claim about what was likely to happen be false?
  4. Don't let him fool you. He makes $3,000 a day off the advertising on this site. A thousand clams would be a drop in the bucket for him, and yeszir is a gambling junkie. He put $10,000 down on a championship badminton match.
  5. But Lugo can rake, and he has better range than Gonzo. I'm not saying I'm ready to say good-bye to Alex, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if Lugo were brought here.
  6. In what way? He put up a 119 OPS+ as a 25 y/o. That's pretty good for a guy who has yet to hit prime years, especially for one who has the athletic ability to play a middle of the field defensive position. On topic, hand/wrist injuries are tricky. It takes a while, even after the pain is gone, to get the 'feel' back for a lot of players. Loretta injured his thumb ligament twice and had to endure 100+ games of less than mediocre play both times before he got his stroke back. Nomar's wrist? I don't think I need to go into that one for everyone here. I'm encouraged, but not surprised, by the last month or so. Given the way he was playing in ST and out of the gate, it was only a matter of time before things started clicking again.
  7. Not really. The White Sox put 5 on the board against him -- 1 of them unearned, but it was on an error he committed. He was all over the place and served up a few cookies.
  8. Well said. And, to the comment that offense isn't the problem, if you can't stop them from scoring, then it helps to score more than they do.
  9. Translation: I will continue to fit squarely into the definition of hypocrite by doing exactly what I call you classless for doing.
  10. Are you serious? He calls Cal Ripken an "albatross" for the Orioles? f***ing douche. He's a complete asshat.
  11. Holy crap. I didn't realize Weaver was at 70 pitches through 3. He's only let 4 runners on. Is he going full on everyone?
  12. 11-run 1st for the tribe. Hafner's 6th GS.
  13. I don't see either making significant contributions this year. Sheff won't push himself now that his replacement is here. Matsui will go above and beyond, but in the end, it may not be until early Sept that he's swinging without pain, but then he has to get his timing back -- with no Minor League games to rehab.
  14. Weaver's throwing seeds.
  15. At least you only play them 6 or 9 times a year. We have to watch Catalanotto morph into Fred Lynn, Reed Johnson goes all Chemically Altered Brady Anderson, and Vernon Wells goes from All-Star to HOF on us 18-19 times a year.
  16. If Curtis Pride, yeah that's right Curtis Pride, takes advantage of the short porch here, he can put them in a hurt locker. EDIT: No pride for Curtis today.
  17. Wang is getting worked in the 1st.
  18. Nice dodge. So, in the end, it's OK for Kay to compare following that tradition about the no-no to following orders to "put people in ovens" -- his words -- because you think he's a better broadcaster than the guys on NESN. Yeah, that makes sense. You completely ignored the meat-n-taters of the thread just to be homer for your guy. Well done.
  19. I'm not adopting him, but he's in the system, so I am starting his thread. http://soxprospects.com/players/images/kalish.ryan.jpg Age: 18; Born: March 28, 1988, Shrewsbury, NJ; Height: 6-1; Weight: 205; Bats: Left; Throws: Left; Drafted: 9th round, 2006; How Acquired: Draft; High School: Red Bank Catholic HS (NJ); ETA: 2011 Scouting Report: Excellent athlete with good bat speed and quickness on the basepaths. Good contact, but needs to work on his swing. Could have been drafted as high as the second round. Hurt by an arm injury in 2006. Similar body and makeup to Trot Nixon. Questionable power. Tough competitor. Red Sox fan. Yesterday, 8/12/2006: He picked up his first two hits, one of them a dinger, in his 2nd game with the GCL Sox.
  20. More opportunities? I hope Trot finds a nice bleacher pad for his ass, because if I'm the manager, he's going to be sitting a lot when he gets off the DL.
  21. I googled it. I wouldn't give Mulder anything more than a Wade Miller type deal, because there is a risk that he pitches in as many games a Wade did last year. EDIT: That is, asssuming he gets a procedure done to correct it.
  22. Serious? Fixable? Rehab time? Lasting effects? I'm not familiar with that one. Anything you've got would be appreciated.
  23. Isn't he hurt? I'd like to know what type of injury it is, and if it will have lasting effects. Pre-2006 Mulder is a pitcher I'd be interested in.
  24. Translation: The Red Sox didn't earn their win, the O's handed it to them. More baiting and another brilliant hit-and-run contribution. Take note, Mods.
