  1. A 3-year average for Youkilis drags his number down because last year is the only year he started. The previous years he was a bench player. I think Papelbon and Matsuzaka will be better than league average of the top-90. I'd look at their ZiPS projections and estimate their Win Shares from there.
  2. Hinske/Youk at 1B/2B? Brilliant. Might be the worst defensive right half of an IF ever.
  3. Jacko, what's your deal? We get it. You think Drew is soft. Move on already.
  4. Lyon was in the original deal to get Gonzalez, but they had to trade him back because Lyon failed his physical. From Lyon's bb-ref page... July 22, 2003: Traded by the Boston Red Sox with Anastacio Martinez to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Mike Gonzalez and Scott Sauerbeck. July 31, 2003: Traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates with Anastacio Martinez and Jeff Suppan to the Boston Red Sox for Mike Gonzalez, Freddy Sanchez, and cash. November 28, 2003: Traded by the Boston Red Sox with Michael Goss (minors), Casey Fossum, and Jorge de la Rosa to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Curt Schilling. The last one is included to show they actually found good use for Lyon in the long run.
  5. I remember that twat. I was only 12 and I wanted to strangle her.
  6. Donnelly? Meh. I don't like the trends in his K/9, BB/9, and H/9, but I'm not crying over moving Seibel for him. Hopefully he doesn't continue his current slide.
  7. Jacko, do you wear protection for the jewels when you hop back and forth over the fence? I thought he wasn't worth much when the Yankees were considered to be going after him. You are losing any cred you may have had when you change your opinion faster than a politician with a fresh set of polling data.
  8. He's using his career numbers, which is a little silly. What he did 5 years ago as a 22 y/o rookie have little bearing on the player he will be over the next 7 years.
  9. He's susceptible to pick-off moves. Getting better at that will come with time, but it's not due to a lack of speed.
  10. Wells is entering his prime years and is looking like he'll be a .900 OPS hitter who plays excellent defense at a middle of the field spot. In this market, $18M per looks like the right number for that.
  11. Aloha. I'm from NoVa also but live in Florida now.
  12. I thought you were a Mets fan, but only a Dodger fan could think this. ASG and ROY contender? Hahah, what a joke. Manny is one of the 10 best hitters of all time. No half-season wonder and runner-up in a popularity contest is good enough for an annual .315/.405/.605. They should certainly be asking for the moon in return. A hitter like Manny comes around about every 10-15 years.
  13. Redstick? Use vaseline. Bah-dum-bum-bah....[/rimshot]
  14. Dude ran a deer down in his backyard as a teenager. If he can keep getting on base and nabbing shoulda-been triples with his speed like he has in the minors, he can hit with the power of Pokey for all I care. That said, he's got more pop than the little engine that could.
  15. And the LT bumps to ~$155M. They'll have about $50M of room to work with.
  16. And Clement - $8.75M.
  17. Gagne actually creates another possibility, Otsuka. I see them working hard to package Murphy for Tankersly. No way they give up Ellsbury, but I don't think they'll have to.
  18. I agree Jacko. Houston is still destination #1, IMO. NY has a chance if they want him. Boston is unlikely interested with other holes to fill while being close to the LT threshold. The wild-card for Boston though, is Manny. If they are able to fill those holes by trading him, that frees up salary, and then anything could happen.
  19. Bosox, don't let Jacko get you down. That's what he wants. On the heels of the biggest and best news for the Sox this offseason, he's trying to let the air out of the balloon. And that won't end. Once the Sox get a closer, the setup man will come into question. If they get a setup man, the bench will be ridiculed. If they improve the bench, the bat boy will be found inadequate. Once they upgrade the bat boy, he'll be questioning the quality of the food at Fenway. It will never end.
  20. You misread the message of my post. I acknowledged that both players have warts. Crisp's can be explained by an injury. Lidge has no physical explanation for his awful year. Which would weigh heavier on your conscience in regards to future potential, a guy who was bad when hurt, or a guy who was just bad? I don't argue that Crisp is good enough to get Lidge when he's at the top of his game, but he isn't and nobody knows when he can/will be again. When healthy, Crisp will likely progress into a 7 WARP player. That is quite good. Personally, I wouldn't want to make that trade because it creates another hole. The idea of WMP playing a significant amount of games in CF doesn't sit well with me. I think WMP is the player to move.
  21. The cap number is the AAV, so in terms of the LT threshold Matsuzaka's impact will be $8.5M annually ($10M if he hits his incentives - which we all want him to do).
  22. Coco got injured. Why did Lidge s*** the bed? Coco hit 16 HR, put an .810 OPS, and rated as the best LF in baseball defensively. That was good enough for a 6.3 WARP season as a 25 y/o. To put that in perspective, Manny put up a WARP of 6.3 last year. Coco's good enough to get Lidge.
  23. Ask Vladdy. He hits FA one year earlier and he's making more than he does with the Angels. There was a slight correction after the 1999-2002 insanity. Looks like it's on the upswing again.
  24. Pettitte too. Mark him down for $22.4M next year. I mean, if the posting fee goes into Matsuzaka's salary, then Pettitte's $6.4M luxury tax hit should go into his.
  25. Holy crap does your avatar suck. Not the message, but the format. Use the auto-shape tools. It reminds me of thebestpageintheuniverse.net. F.
