  1. And you'd be rejected, because that is a ridiculous offer. The Sox wouldn't be the only team with needs in that negotiation. The Nats just lost both starting COF, and Bowden has a soft spot for WMP.
  2. It's not perfect. I forget the situations, but in some of the extreme examples, due to that situation not occurring regularly, a positive result actually reduces the WPA. For the most part though, I think it does a good job of measuring "clutch". Newer stats adjust the home numbers for park factor. That's why I prefer OPS+ to OPS. OPS just gives you the raw number. OPS+ relates the number to the home park, the league played in, and the era.
  3. It's not only that. It's Murray Chass. Skim through an archive of his work. This guy takes more shots at the Sox than Jacko and Gom combined. This is sour grapes by Colleti, IMO. It would be one thing if the market was showing some restraint this year, but it hasn't been, and around the time Drew needed to make a decision about his contract clause, there were some hefty figures buzzing around the rumor mill. Combine the way the market was looking and the fact that he fit a position of need for many big market clubs, and it should come as no surprise that he exercised the out clause. Colleti is pissed that he lost his guy at what is becoming a reasonable rate in this market. He needs to direct that anger at the guy who signed him to that contract, DePodesta, because it's not an issue without the out clause.
  4. Crack is whack! Get off the rock, kid. All you did was call me names, and you bowed out when you finally had enough. I'm still here.

  6. Fred, he's a Yankee fan on a Sox forum. That answer your question? Of course he's trying to rain on your parade, it's the only reason he's here.
  7. What list? There's a guy over at SoSH who worked in the Sox FO and he keeps a FA Compensation Tracking thread on the main board there. He's got Foulke as a B.
  8. It isn't? chick·en (chkn) 1. Noun -The common domestic fowl (Gallus domesticus) or its young. -Any of various similar or related birds. -The flesh of the common domestic fowl. 2. Slang. A coward. 3. Any of various foolhardy competitions in which the participants persist in a dangerous course of action until one loses nerve and stops. 4. Vulgar Slang. A young gay male, especially as sought by an older man. Loses nerve, flinches. Tomato, tomahto.
  9. I thought Foulke rated as a B, meaning the signing team loses nothing, while the Sox net a sandwich pick.
  10. Boras will remain firm until the 11th hour. So will the Sox. It's like a game of chicken to see who flinches first. Anything from now until the deadline is posturing. In the end, a deal will get done somewhere in the middle.
  11. In years divisible by 3, he is always north of a 1.000 OPS and hits HRs at a rate of one every 15 ABs. He's a lock for MVP type numbers if he can play 140+ games. Sounds silly, right? Well, I don't really believe any type of "every other/third/etc. year..." to be a good predictor of future performance, but it's no more silly than a belief he'll get hurt simply because he does "every other year". He traditionally is subject to big 2nd half splits, and that holds every year of his career. Nobody figured him out, he just did his usual 2nd half swoon. I do agree that the time to deal him is now, though, but not because he got "figured out". Well, he never really recovered. I would think that is obvious due to the offseason surgery. I'm expecting a bounce back, one that will put him in contention for the leadoff spot.
  12. Clement - $8.5M AAV
  13. I find it funny that you insult my reading ability. I said you had a desire for them to be in good health, so I'm not doubting your sincerity there. Someone with strong reading ability would have easily seen that in what I wrote. You just can't separate that desire from your hatred, hence the unnecessary comment about him bombing on the field. If you were able to separate the two, you would have just said, "Get well, Jon". You are a really simple person. Everything is binary to you. The world of "human interaction" you claim to know so much about isn't black and white like that. There are many shades of gray in between, and that is where you get lost in the conversation. Oh, and, according to you, you wanted to stop taking shots at each other, something I have refrained from doing. Looks like you can't avoid doing that either. That's fine if you want it that way, but don't ask for a truce because you can't take the heat and then be the first to start throwing stones again.
  14. Oh get off the high horse you clown. We aren't discussing the seriousness of domestic violence, because I've already agreed that it is a heinous act. I only take issue with your conjecture about Lugo continuing to beat his wife despite absolutely no evidence to support it. It is possible? Yes. Can we say with certainty, like you do, that he is still doing it? No.
  15. That is some grade A hyperbole right there.
  16. The A's should snatch that up in a heartbeat if that's the offer.
  17. I've got life experience that says it can be a one time event. I saw my Dad get physical with my mom once and never again. We've talked about. It was an isolated incident. Open your eyes, Jacko. The fact that repeat offenders exist doesn't make it so for all violators. I happen to think our country's maxim about due process, or hell, at least waiting for a second accusation, are good things to live by before making assumptions about people with something as serious as assaulting their spouse.
  18. It's not an argument, just something I heard/read. Since his family is in Texas, and he would be returning to NY where this supposedly happened, I would imagine that doesn't sit well with his wife. I'm not digging through thousands of threads to find links. Sure, it was a rumor, but one that not many people took exception to. This kind of stuff happens often. Last year, the rumor floating around the message boards was that Manny was laying pipe with Renteria's wife, and Manny's trade request centered around his wife wanting him out of Boston. The pieces fit. Renteria was out in two shakes and a couple of weeks later, Manny wants to stay.
  19. Oh, so now you've graduated to sociological studies of the Sox players. Doctor, sociologist, what's next, Jacko of all trades? Like I said, what he did isn't defensible, but there's nothing to suggest it wasn't an isolated incident. Your conjecture that he's habitual is unwarranted. Ed, quite a surprise seeing some moral high ground sought by a guy that tells another guy his wife does anal on the internet.
  20. The first one in the related column was a hoot... Chokeback Yankees
