  1. Edwar gives up total bombs. No cheap wall scrapers from him.
  2. I'm starting to think Kazmir is a bit overrated. He gets a lot of help from hitters chasing because he has no control. I'll bet the pitches he puts on the corners are a blind squirrel finding a nut. He takes effective wildness to a very high level.
  3. Until I see more information, I'm not convinced the warning track shots become HRs by virtue of steroids. For a great majority of major leaguers, warning track shots are warning track shots for a specific reason, and it's because they didn't square it up. This is why I'd like to know more about the study, although I'm not interested enough to dig into it. The physics of the bat to ball energy transfer change as you move away from the sweet spot. The sweet spot corresponds to the center of mass, as the impact point shifts away from it, you introduce torque into the equation, and the dynamics change. You can't just make the same conversions that you did for the sweet spot hit ball.
  4. 500? I think he probably gets to 700 easily. He was a 35-40 guy prior to '99, when he reportedly started taking them. He's only had one huge outlier year, when he hit 73, no other year is over 50.
  5. I'd be interested to know some of the other assumptions of the study, because 50% more seems like a stretch. By this I mean, how much of the other noise, not squaring the ball up, not taking a full swing because of a deceptive delivery, etc, stuff that steroids won't impact, is being considered: I personally think the biggest impact of PEDs is keeping guys on the field.
  6. I apologize if it offended you in that way. And, thankfully, my service is done. Now I'm just another working stiff. No more glory.
  7. Right, but you overreacted to the pic. The picture was shown because of resemblance between Hippo, Pyle, and Joba. It had nothing to do with his father. And now you are overreacting to my comment. I didn't insult your heritage, I acknowledged it. Do you deny the treatment of women over there is unjust by the western standard? Do you honestly think you've given us any reason to think you have respect for women? The point, something that painfully evades you all too often, is that you are in no position to judge the "class" of others. First of all, you jump to the wrong conclusion far too often. Second, people only judge something as "classless" when it disagrees with their beliefs. Your behavior and heritage are in conflict with what is considered "classy" behavior in this corner of the world when it comes to the treatment of women. I wasn't making fun of your heritage. It is what it is, and it's something that precludes you from being a credible source of judgment on "classy" behavior, at least in this society.
  8. This is the question I had as I listened to the highlights from last night on my way in to work. No Papelbon when we have the lead and an RP in diaper fill mode, but then he uses him when we are down to protect a one run deficit, wtf? I completely agree with you, Kilo. If they don't win it this year, he needs to go. Although, if they don't win and he doesn't go, I think that may signal that some of his strange moves have come from above. Whatever the case, I'd like to see the source of what's going on pay the piper if it doesn't pan out.
  9. Gagne est le suc. Croissant eating bitch.
  10. What am I, Gom? I'm respectful to everyone here save a few. You just happen to fall into the few because of your intent here. I'm only living by the Golden Rule, respect those that show respect to you. Don't fool yourself into making more out this than that. EDIT: Hoping I stop a bullet? Is that another example from the Gom school of class? You keep making my point easier and easier. Can't even take a little of your own medicine without wishing death upon the other side. Class all the way.
  11. It's got nothing to do with race, everything to do with culture, and given the way you interact with females on this site, there's little to believe you view women as anything more than something for your amusement. So, your attempt to make this racial is like if you were the Irish guy calling me out for that with a bottle Bushmills in your hand. My post was intended to be disrespectful. I have no respect for you and the facade you put on here.
  12. Please look at your posts. You have absolutely no respect for women, and I don't care where you grew up, it's about who is raising you. The middle east is the worst place in the world in terms of women's rights, and those that raised you are 1st generation to America from there. If you think it had no impact, then not only are you a prick but you are naive as well.
  13. Not for nothing, but Gom questioning people's class is one of the funnier things that goes on here. Class only matters when it's on his terms. Nevermind the mysoginy, hey, he's Egyptian, women don't get any respect in that part of he world, why should they here, or the endorsement of adultery. Those things are class through and through. Nor should we mention that he only comes here to needle people. His entire purpose here is to try and make other people feel bad because of the team they root for. Class indeed. It's like getting marital advice from Bill Clinton.

Well, I think Florida is better on offense, but I don't see their D anywhere close to last years D. The LSU/UF game will be a doozy.

I think sotk's is referring to the BCS championship game. They'll need about 7 good teams to lose a game in order for them to leapfrog up to the top two spots. LSU plays Florida in a couple of weeks, and Ohio State, Penn State, and Wisonsin mix it up, WVU, Louisville, and Rutgers do the same. USC has to play Cal, and Oklahoma plays Texas. Somwhere along the way, they'll need a few losses from the winner of LSU/UF, USC/Cal, OK/Tex, and anyone who comes out of the Big 10 and Big East clean.

  17. I'm not saying the problems will be financial. I consider the league now problematic. Sure, there are 7 different winners in the last 7 years. But, out of the 56 potential playoff spots, top 10 payroll teams for that year accounted for30 of the spots. Another 10 or so were in the 11-15 range. Only 8 or so teams can be in the top 10 year in, year out. So, whie it's possible the sytem will yield different wnners, it as nothing to do with the system being equitable. All that does is confirm what most say abut the postseason being a crapshoot and the hot team winning. It is absolutey no surprise you like the system. You seem to derive a lot of your self-worth from the success of your team, so it would be harmful to your ego if you wanted an equitable system. Oh, and the Nat's will not be in the cellar for long. Their new ownership has money, a new stadium opening next year, a big market city passionate about sports, and is launching their own network. They just need to recover from MLB's management. They'll be one of the big boys in no time.

I haven't seen them yet this year outside of the highlight shows, but from the stats their D looks legit. Who is going to start getting the ball, Jackson or Wynn? Jackson came with the hype as ready to start, but Wynn looks like he's doing more with his opportunities.

    2007 NFL Season

You just described the Skins of the 80's, who went to 4 SBs and won 3, with three different QBs. Now, those teams had the best O-line in the game. The QB didn't matter. The RB didn't matter. This year's version has more skill at the skill positions, but does not have the dominant O-line. However, Bugel is back, and he coached the Hogs. They just need to get him personnel. I like their defensive back 7 better than the 80's teams, but the D-line is nowhere near as good. Manley and Mann got after the QB. You couldn't run up the middle on Grant and Butz. So, overall I think you are right. They won't be a SB team for a while with the personnel they have now. But I don't think Campbell is the reason. It will be the fact that they don't dominate both sides of the line, which has been, is, and always will be the recipe for success. I'll never understand why teams like the Raiders draft Jamarcus Russell when they have no O-line. Trade the high picks for more picks and draft O-line/D-line only for a couple of years. Then pick up skill guys.

Yeah, Campbell. Don't know why I had Taylor on the brain. They are missing one key component at skill positions for the typical Gibbs offense, and that's a big possesion receiver like Art Monk. Moss and Randle El are good at stretching the field, but neither is a big target.

My Skins start 2-0. I love the secondary with Rogers, Springs, Taylor, and Landry. The corners can cover, and both safeties can cover and lay a hat on you. I'd like to see more of a pass rush from the D-line, and better gap coverage from the LBs, but a good secondary is a good place to start. It allows Williams to be aggressive with his scheme. Taylor is showing some progression behind center. I like his mobility and the fact that he isn't run-first with it. Less like Vick and Young, more like McNabb. The Portis and Betts RBBC is a good one. They won't be a serious contender this year, but they can play.
  22. It's hit or miss here. Most of us don't life and death this thing, but there are few who polarize their outlook based on the latest game.
  23. It's the Frank Thomas show.
  24. No, their choice doesn't piss me off, the system does. The NFL is the best for a reason. They share more, but also have a hard cap with mandatory minimums. Everyone makes money, yet everyone has a chance to be good if they are smart in the draft and trades. Baseball will continue to have problems as long as they keep the current system.
  25. I'm sorry, when I said look in the mirror, I wasn't refering to you specifically. That was a figurative statement for the whole Yankee fanbase. By comparing Pats fans to Giants fans for this, is a "you" and "them" statement. You conveniently left out Yankee fans who have done it for the other 2/3 of the Balco investigation. It's pretty hypocritical. As far as the "everyone's doing it" argument, I doubt we'll see more of it from the NFL because teams doing it will be very cautious from here on out. And, you can ridicule it if you like, but given the volume of names that are coming out of the Grimsley and Albany cases, those people may have a point.
