    Staats is the holder to two odious distinctions for a play by play guy. He's got the most annoying voice, and he is the biggest moaning whiner about how the Rays always get screwed on calls. He's horrible. Imagine if Hawk was his color guy. Although, I think Magrane's idiocy can match Hawk's annoyingness.

    The Rays announcers are getting on Minnesota's case spouting off about how Garza was taught to use his 4-seamer more instead of his heavy movement 2-seamer. While I agree it's a nice looking pitch, maybe they had a point because he can't seem to find the zone with it.

    Who said you have to crucify him? You are admittedly giving him a pass for this +1 in the loss column when it is a decision he should be held accountable for. We don't live in a world of absolutes. It's not crucify or excuse. You can hold him accountable, ie add this to the negative side of the balance sheet, and still like him as a manager.

    It's not going out of the way to find something to complain about. Disregard the result and think about it with a dash of baseball acumen. He elected to pitch to the team's hottest hitter in a tie game in the 9th inning on the road with a runner in scoring position and first base open with a light hitting groundball machine on deck. You IBB the hot hitter 100 times out of 100 there. Hell, when you consider how they are hitting right now, you even do it if Swisher was on deck, which tells you how my reaction would be to your hypothetical there at the end. Walking Crede was the move. Joe didn't make it. EDIT: Since you brought up close and late and all, more reasons why..... Alexei Ramirez - 3 GIDP in 25 PA Crede - .444/.545/1.555 Close and Late going into that AB, .444/.476/.777 with RISP

    I think you absolutely walk Crede there. Crede's OPS was at .920+, the guy on deck was .450. Furthermore, Ramirez GB rate is 58% this year to Crede's 32%. You walk Crede there every month of the year.

    No offense, but this is a water is wet statement for you and everything Yankee. I've never seen you critical of anything related to that team.

    I disagree about Lopez. He's frustrating as hell because he's so inconsistent, but he does show flashes of effectiveness. He was very good late in the game Wednesday, which probably brought on his usage and the trust Francona had with him on Thursday. The problem as I see it concerning Lopez is that Francona seems to trust him more than his inconsistency should warrant. If Francona is unable to overcome this tendancy he has with Lopez, then perhaps it would be best if the FO removes him as an option, like they need to do with Timlin.

    I agree, JHB. The first move that needs to happen to try and right the ship re: middle relief is getting Timlin to walk off in the sunset and replace him with Hansen. There's more than that move that needs to happen, though. I think the FO needs to convince Francona to treat the Hansen/Lopez/Aardsma/Tavarez combo with a very short leash. When these guys are effective, it is usually evident from the way they pitch to the first batter they see.

    Lopez is quickly becoming Tito's backup binky. He needs to be shipped off so that he's no longer an option. I don't care if this pen has no lefty other than Jima when the alternative is to have a lefty that sucks.

    By his scouting report, he sounds a lot like Michael Bowden, who also lacks a put away pitch. I think this year is Bowden's make it or break it year as a serious prospect. I'm not sure Crisp wouldn't have more value to the team as the 4th OF with two OFs, Drew and Manny, who need regular rest and are good injury candidates. That said, I do like the notion of flipping him for someone else that fills more of a need. Texas is short on pitching prospects, so maybe Gallagher, or Bowden himself, could help pry Saltalamacchia from the Rangers.

    That blows. Poor location and it got drilled. Still, his stuff looks more like the stuff from his scouting reports when he was drafted. The previous edition had no depth on the slider.
