1. Throw that same slider right over the plate. It's unhittable, but it's got to have the right initial azimuth.
2. Dude, it's the hit/run ratio.
3. He can't even f***ing bunt.
4. Gazoo has crazy BABIP magic. Big headed freakshow.
5. If the Tigers are going to send a statue like Guillen out to man the hot corner, shouldn't he at least be able to swat? Whatever, dumasses, thanks for the free runs.
6. That's not the total number of players. At the time of that posting, I only had 12 offensive players, but some carried multi-position eligibility.
Player|C|1B|2B|SS|3B|OF Suzuki|Yes| | | | | Berkman| |Yes| | | |Yes Uggla| | |Yes| | | Keppinger| | | |Yes|Yes| Wright| | | | |Yes| Young| | | | | |Yes Griffey| | | | | |Yes Kemp| | | | | |Yes Cabrera| |Yes| | |Yes| Clement| | | | | | Balentien| | | | | |Yes Aybar| | |Yes|Yes| |
Twelve players, fifteen YES's. These are rosters as of tomorrow since the trades recorded today and the rosters aren't effective until tomorrow. Since that posting, I've also picked up Iannetta who appears to have won the starting job.
7. Poor, helpless Julio. At least he had the brains to refrain from a "Johnny at Burger King" comment, although I can't help but think that one of those are around the corner because he'll get an earful at his Fenway return, I'd imagine.
8. Now my roster is ready to carry a backup 2B/SS. Position - # of Players Eligible C - 1 (with Clement being close, he'll be eligible in another month) 1B - 2 2B - 2 SS - 2 3B - 3 OF - 5 If I can't find good players who somehow have an added extra position, then I try and make sure I've got corner power covered as that leads to more TB, OBP, R, and RBI usually. If I've got good players who do carry extra position (Berkman - 1B/OF, Cabrera - 1B/3B ), then I'll carry back-up MIFs. That way I can cover the run producing positions in multiple ways with less roster, freeing up room on my bench for the middle of the field.
9. There are many things in life that seem to serve no purpose. The tonsils and appendix. The four guys standing around watching the 5th guy work on road crews. Light beer. All of them pale in comparison to Suzyn Waldman calling a baseball game. Sterling: "And Matsui goes with the pitch lining one into left field!" Waldman: "You are absolutely right, John. He did hit the outside pitch the opposite way, he just went with it." Sterling: "Mussina gets him looking with the slow curve!" Waldman: "You are absolutely right, John. He threw the ball really slow, and it curved."
10. Jacko should know, he bought a magazine. EDIT: The point being is that this is a regurgitation of what is a) in his SoxProspects scouting report, and the content of his scouting report prior to '07. What I believe Crespo is looking for is some more recent information, whether it be first hand or disseminated.
11. Ahh, get-away day. Nothing like being counterproductive at work with Gameday distracting me on the screen and the call coming in on my XM radio.
12. Yes, the actual location of pitches relative to the plate is worthless information. Solid line of thinking.
13. Tough call right now, IMO. Last year he started off gangbusters in the hitters' paradise of Lancaster and struggled a bit when bumped up to AA at a young age. Perhaps they show a little more caution before promoting him this time and see if he can sustain what he's doing deeper into the year. Of course, if he's hit his developmental milestones then he could be moved up sooner rather than later.
14. They are going to be on top of it if they know the speed.
15. Something's got to be wrong with his FB tonight, not locating it or something, because he needs to throw one at some point.
16. Pitch f/x seems to be down on Gameday, and I'd love some credible data on the location of strikes 2 and 3 to Ellsbury.
17. Yeah, and Galaraga seems to be getting the call at the knees. I think that has something to do with his pitches having more vertical movement so they appear "higher".
18. Shame this kid has an innings limit, I could see him being the best on the staff come October.
19. Unfortunate, now retire the next two.
20. Get ahead in the count.
21. Since I proposed the trades this week.... Volquez - 7 IP, 10 K, 0 ER Votto - 3 HR Santana - 9 IP, 9 K, 0 ER This does not produce a warm fuzzy feeling. Yes, I'm getting David Wright, Miguel Cabrera, and Ben Sheets, but the guys I'm giving up are lighting it up and could be in breakout mode. I think I got distracted by sparkly things.
22. You are getting Votto. Three bombs today (I have him on the bench - D'oh!) EDIT: And Volquez - 6 IP, 1.33 WHIP, 1 QS, 8 K today.
