  1. Basketball-Reference.com has advanced basketball statistics (newfound statistical analysis is not unique to baseball alone). Last season alone, Lebron had more defensive win shares, 15.3 to 12.7 (almost a full win), and a lower DRating at 104 to 105. Win shares are similar to baseball win shares, with each share 1/3 of a win. The DRating is how many points allowed per 100 possessions, so lower is better. To my eye, Kobe is better on the ball with Lebron being better at off the ball team defense. Like their offensive contributions, Kobe is better as an individual while Lebron is better as part of a team. Last I checked, it is still a team game. And, Kilo's point is a good one. Pierce torched Kobe compared to what Lebron allowed in their matchups. I would expect the best perimeter defender to not allow Pierce to get to the hole as easily as Kobe did.
  2. Exactly. He's the most skilled individual, but there's more to the game than being the most skilled individual. I think Lebron is much better when playing with 4 other people, to the point that Kobe's individual talent is mitigated and the two are equal.
  3. That would be a very valid point if people were talking about his shoulder "healing" through the rehab process. I think they knew surgery would be required, ultimately. The idea was to see if it could be rehabbed enough to pitch some this season prior to going under the knife. The Braves just did the same thing with Smoltz. I reiterate the point I made upthread. It took Clement 1 calendar year to have the surgery and then get to the point where he was throwing BP sessions. Schilling was diagnosed in Jan '08. The idea that the had a chance to pitch in games this year after surgery is fantasy. And given that this is the team that Clement was under contract with, it's no surprise that they wanted him to try an alternative route when he was on a 1-year deal that, according to Curt, was the last of his career.
  4. He is at passing, rebounding, and in team defense. He's not as good a scorer or on the ball defender. What's that mean? Kobe wins a game of 1 on 1.
  5. HA! Jeannie Zelasko takes a shot Stein Jr. "Proving AL pitchers can hit...and run the bases safely".
  6. Yeah, they should be able to score in bunches off this guy.
  7. f***, that ball was ripped. Surprised quasimodo's brother could handle that.
  8. Yeah, about good enough to play for the Yankees today. Glaus kills us.
  9. Matsuzaka flat out sucks this year. What's his FIP with all those walks, like eleventy? At least it looks like CBuch is getting things straightened out in Pawtucket.
  10. The Cards have hit 4 out in 10 innings. Those 4 HR constitute 33% of the total HR production of those that hit them. That's 4 of the 12 total hit by Larue, Shumacker, Molina, and Miles in just 10 innings. I hate baseball*. *Only when I don't love baseball.
  11. Is Giese f***ing the same leprechaun as Rasner?
  12. You can see why they call him Pedrito (little Pedro).
  13. Weaksauce. He does that a lot with the bases jacked lately. I wonder if he's pressing like he appeared to be prior to #500.
  14. Holy throat constriction, Batman. Take advantage of this choker.
  15. Oh joy, the Cards got the lead. Now we get to watch a new pitcher for each individual batter for the next three innings.
  16. The time to hesitate is through His pitchcount shouldn't get much higher Tito you know what to do Good Wake this evening has expired
  17. f***, I hate the "Scrubs Kill Me" version of Wake.
  18. Hopefully Damon's blunder is what it takes to send Moose over the cliff.
  19. Chalk this up in the Girardi's inept file. He's running into outs like it's going out of the style tonight. They had success against SD largely due to the fact that Barrett sucks. Enter Cincinnatti, with Bako who's got a decent arm, and he continues the tactic with poor results. Does he really think Jeter and Damon are still speedy?
  20. Votto isn't fooled by Mussina's smoke and mirrors.
  21. Horrible check swing call on Phillips, and the home ump called it himself without allowing the ump up the line to take it.
