1. The stats aren't similar, because, like I said, of one swing of the bat. I said they pitched similar games, and they did.
2. You couldn't get Burnett's sac far enough down your throat the other night when he pitched a similar game. Both dominated with K's, were wild and allowed baserunners for it, and made mistakes that got hit out. Beckett just made one more mistake than Burnett.
3. No. AAV stands for "Average Annual Value". It's the total amount of the contract divided by the duration of the contract (in years). Any given contract's AAV is a single number. The actual annual values are structured to go up typically, but the AAV is what it is.
4. It was against the Natinals, who lit him up in his first game back this year. The fact of the matter is, the FO may be guilty of running the team like a fantasy owner with the knee jerk reaction they made there. Both he and Penny were bad at the same time, and they made the decision to go with Penny. Given the choice to see which of them could right the ship, my answer have been Smoltz. Yesterday, today, forever.
5. He'd piss me off like nobody else if I was a Yankee fan. He's probably got the natural talent to be an MVP caliber player, but he jakes it a lot and takes days off mentally.
6. I don't have any problem with them doing it either, but not having a problem with it can coexist with it being petty. I don't think they are dicks for doing (although I'm sure Carter does for the reasons stated upthread), but there's no reason for them to have done it. It will have zero impact on the Sox season.
7. It's petty because they aren't going to stop it from happening and they aren't going to keep someone the Sox would use off the 40-man roster. Remember, the Sox are in a tight WC race right now. There are some pretty mariginal players on the 40-man right now, and there's nobody in the system not on the 40-man who would get a chance to play for them in September. It's petty because it has no tangible effect on their roster, and it appears they are doing it just for the sake of getting attention.
8. This is about where I am. First and foremost I root for the Sox to win. If that happens, what happens in the NYY game is immaterial, so I want the Yankees to lose every night. That said, I won't begrudge anyone for rooting for this team's playoff chances if that makes them comfortable.
9. For the sake of accuracy, might as well soak those ashes in some booze.
10. Just so you know, when you make a joke at someone's expense, you should expect the antagonization to be returned. Whether or not you "want" it is irrelevant, because you should expect it. SOTK asked we drop it. I have and will continue to do so. You get a second chance to heed the mod's request, I'd consider myself lucky if I were you.
11. That post was in construction while you posted SOTK. I'll drop it. But when he mucks up another thread with fantasy, I'll let him know and he'll get all butthurt again.
12. JFC, if you go off by what you read, maybe that's the problem, because you don't read for content very well. I didn't accuse of plagiarizing from the articles you post. I said even though you've discussed topics brought to light by Rosenthal before, you've never called him Frodo until after I made comments about him being from the Shire.
13. I don't need it for my ego. I just know that you didn't start using it until after I made that comment, and since all you do is muck up trade ideas from every possible source, I know he's been part of your discussions before I made it. I find it funny that someone willing to plagiarize like that will then accuse the person from who he has stolen material of being unoriginal.
14. This is petty attempt to justify your position by painting me as off my rocker with anger about your pipe dreams. This couldn't be farther from my state of mind when I respond. I'm laughing at you, not yelling at you.
15. No, I enjoy ridiculing the nonsense you bring into every thread and trying to bring the discussion back to reality. I don't need to get over anything. You need to get over the idea that I should refrain from calling the idiocy exactly what it is.
16. And in the span of 3 posts over 16 minutes, we're off into La-La land again. Every.Damn.Thread. We need a Fantasy Player Acquisition Thread for the mods to dump this stuff that creeps into every other thread.
17. The youtube code is the stuff after the equal sign on the url for the video.
18. Youtube code from url of youtube page for the video
19. I agree. Upthread someone said Carter > than a compensation pick and supplemental round pick. In some respects that's true, because they have made some early round picks that have not panned out as well as Carter has. However, I think the book on Carter is written. LH who can hit RHP and can't field any position at even replacement level. I'd take the chance on hitting it big through the draft over keeping a player with known flaws and mediocrity at the big league level written all over him.
20. No. Noob is short for newbie, a new poster. Get it?
21. And, like I told you before, 8/12/2009. Is there a comprehension problem here?
22. MDC? I dunno about this. He doesn't like playing with other people's mess.
