  1. Bowden may not have a swing and miss pitch, but the kid can paint.
  2. From the limited exposure he's had in the majors, I say trade him now while they can still justify his struggles as "growing pains". If he's in the rotation next year, I think he gets exposed. He doesn't really have an out pitch, IMO.
  3. Robble, robble! http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2009/04/08/amd_chamberlain.jpg
  4. Eh, Buchholz looks good, but he'd be better if he was fat ....... and from Nebraska.
  5. These two guys are technically ineligible also. They do, however, have two slots that are looking like they'll be able to fill with DL replacements. Miguel Gonzalez and Nick Green are eligible and will probably be on the DL come October. Therefore, anyone in the organization and on the 40-man roster as of 9/1 can be considered eligible.
  6. Ted Barrett (homeplate ump) does not like Okajima. http://brooksbaseball.net/pfx/location.php?xml=http://gd2.mlb.com/components/game/mlb/year_2009/month_09/day_23/gid_2009_09_23_bosmlb_kcamlb_1//pbp/pitchers/506606.xml&batterX=0&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=1 Was his grandfather part of the Pacific Campaign in WWII or something?
  7. And I don't think his OBP approaches that range until he adds power to his game. Given his speed and ability to put himself into scoring position with his legs, pitchers are going to continue challenging him in the strikezone until he shows that he's a threat to consistently put himself in scoring position with his bat.
  8. I'm catching the My9 broadcast on MLB Network. I can swear I've heard Micheal Kay bitch about a baserunner "technically" being out when their slide makes them lose contact with the bag like Jeter's did. Strangely, he didn't point out that, "technically", Jeter was out there. There was some replay of the play, but only because Jetsey got a boo-boo.
  9. Apparently, they do if you are a douche also.
  10. Doc Brown says, "Strikezone? In this game there is no strikezone." http://brooksbaseball.net/pfx/zoneplotn.php?xml=http://gd2.mlb.com/components/game/mlb/year_2009/month_09/day_22/gid_2009_09_22_bosmlb_kcamlb_1//pbp/pitchers/111838.xml&sp_type=1 JFC.
  11. This was the question?
  12. Shocker. Rainbows, puppies, and ice cream for the Yankees. All. The. Time.
  13. Saves.
  14. It's really kind of simple, OBP has a higher correlation to team overall scoring than BA does. Think of it in terms of evaluating chicks. BA would be like only knowing the size of her breasts. OBP would be like knowing the size of her chest and the shape of her rump. OPS would be like tits, ass, and face. VORP would be like tits, ass, face, and demeanor. Linear Weights would be like tits, ass, face, demeanor, and what her mother looks like (a good approximation of what she'll look like in 25 years). Now, with BA, she could be a real winner, but fat chicks have big hooters too, so it doesn't tell you as much as the others. With OBP, you'd at least know if the nice rack was on well proportioned body. Does this help?
  15. I'm confident saying the impact of Ellsbury's speed is accounted for in his WARP. To start, WARP accounts for stolen base success and failure. Now, you might say that it doesn't account for other ways his speed impacts a game, like taking extra bases (1st to 3rd, scoring from 2nd on a single, scoring from 3rd on a double), but I'd argue that it probably gets a piece of that. The reason I'd argue it does is based on how they come up with the run value of SB. Those run values are based on total team SB successes and failure over many years as components to overall team scoring. It's no stretch to suggest that teams with a high SB success rate also have higher success rates in the other areas speed impacts the game. So, in essence, the SB component of his WARP also includes some accountability for these other impacts.
  16. Doesn't mean he will either. His command was an issue in the minors. He's had more years of bad command as a professional baseball player than years of good command. I realize there is still some potential for good there. I just think it's unlikely to be realized in Boston (ie the ALE).
  17. The fact that he was previously good is exactly the reason I want to get rid of him. His peripherals have been worse than previous years all year long. The 1.00+ ERA we saw in June was backed up by peripherals very similar to his peripherals right now. It was unsustainable. He's like late-stage Javier Lopez right now. He's awful, but Tito's memory is long and he'll continue to use him, like he did with Lopez, when he shouldn't. Theo needs to manage the roster like the parent of a toddler. Don't let the manager play with things he can hurt himself with, because history has shown that he will if you give him the chance.
  18. Cut bait with Tranny Delcarmen. You read that right. Might have boys equipment, but pitches like a woman.
  19. Too big a word for discussion with Gom. He probably thinks you are talking about the Sox closer.
  20. This....and Carson Palmer and Marques Colston. Only 3 guys playing in the early games and Crespo has 87 points. FML.
  21. The finals are usually two weeks long.
  22. Of course I'm playing the guy with Chris Johnson this week. It's like clockwork.
  23. Sentimentality doesn't make him any good.
  24. You must have a full box of TV remote controls. Wait until you get near the end of it after throwing them when he pitches.
