  20. ugh well so far yanks got the lead, i just realized they are playing a day game today Blue Jays say Chacin, while Yankees say Chacon Toronto (64-62) at NY Yankees (69-56) Shawn Chacon is no longer a stopgap measure for the New York Yankees. The 27-year-old right-hander will look to turn in yet another outstanding start when he takes the ball for the Yankees in the finale of their four-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. Acquired July 28 from Colorado, Chacon has been a revelation since joining New York's injury-ravaged rotation. A former closer, Chacon is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA in five starts and one relief appearance for the Yankees. Not bad for someone who was picked up to temporarily plug some holes. "He doesn't get intimidated by anything, wants to be out there, and doesn't want to come out of the game,'' Yankees catcher Jorge Posada said of Chacon. "It's fun to see, because anyone that wants the ball that badly usually does the things he's been doing.'' Chacon had perhaps his finest outing of the season Saturday, throwing eight innings of four-hit ball in the Yankees' 5-0 win over the league-best Chicago White Sox. "We needed him to fill a spot for us, and he did, but he's given us much more than we could have anticipated,'' Yankees manager Joe Torre said. Chacon said he has learned a lot recently by watching Mike Mussina take his turn in the rotation, so it was no coincidence to see Chacon dominate the White Sox a day after Mussina shut Chicago down in a 3-1 win. "It's great following him,'' Chacon said of Mussina. "He told me to watch the hitters to see if they change their approach. I mixed it up and kept them off balance.'' However, Chacon will have to be a lot better than his teammate was on Wednesday if the Yankees are to win this series and keep the pressure on in the AL wild-card race. New York fell into a virtual three-way tie for the wild-card lead with Oakland and Cleveland with Wednesday's 9-5 loss. Mussina carried a shutout into the fifth before he allowed eight of Toronto's nine runs in the inning. Vernon Wells hit a three-run homer for the Blue Jays, who snapped a five-game losing streak and moved within 4 1/2 games of the wild-card lead.

  22. by god it does feel good seeing curt's pitcure in today's starters
  23. Just heard this on the radio "Well the Orioles' season still is getting hurt with each day that goes by. The same night they had a loss to the Angels, Sydney Ponson was arrested for driving drunk, was over the legal limit of alcohol in his body
  24. sox are going to limit curt to around 80 pitches, which would be like 5 innings or so--look for Jeremi "the Stabilizer" Gonzalez to back him up--curt should be strong out there even with a limited pitch count
  25. even with last night's disappoint loss the game still showed the starting pitching has turned around compared to what it was from the all star break to mid-August. In the last 5 games the pitching staff has allowed 14 runs. Clement in his last 3 games has allowed just 5 earned runs and is beginning to pitch late into games, the 1st half clement is back i think. Bronson Arroyo in his last 2 starts has allowed 5 runs Jonathan Papelbon in his first 3 outings with just 4 runs the opposing teams have been able to get. David Wells just did a scoreless outing Wakefield is coming back tomorrow and almost always guarantees to keep the Sox's offense in the game, give the bullpen a rest and go late into games. And Schil is back
