  1. yep and we can expect games announced by the duo of tim McCarver still and Lou Piniella who Fox just loved when he did the ALDS
  2. Jermaine Dye in the world series had batted .438 (7 hits in 16 at bats) HR, 3 RBIs, 3 Runs, 2 Walks
  3. good series white sox now ahh, breathe it in guys the trades, signings, etc will officially start happening in 2 weeks
  4. Astros I love you guys but note to selves: offseason needs would be batters who can actually make contact
  5. how great would it be if say buffalo and new england are tied at say 17 with under 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter, and buffalo has the ball. Holcomb hikes the ball but without even being able to blink, he is sacked in an instant by bruschi forcing a fumble in which brushi recovers and brings it in for a game winning touchdown simply poetic
  6. i dont know why garner had brought lidge in to do the 8th: besides he's been shaky since the alcs, qualls shouldve been the guy to do the 8th inning
  7. who wouldve thought Backe would deliver the Astros' best pitching for the world series? he really is impressing me haha can you believe julia roberts had actually married that guy short lived marriage of course
  8. this garbage about soriano should stop really. by 2007 pedroia will most likely be the regular second baseman. besides even if not him, Sox wont sign Soriano. He lacks OBP, this past season was just .309 OBP (33 walks total). He hit .235 w/RISP, and the five past seasons has averaged 20 errors or more. and wheres renterria in your 06 lineup? mark my words sox will not trade him, with still 3 seasons $30 million. no doubt Furcal would be great, but guess what that would be another big contract for Sox to tackle onto. If dustin pedroia has a good season for the sox, we should trade him?? logic train keeps going by you guy... I see Rafael Furcal staying in the national league altogether with options being Cubs most likely, back with the Braves, or the Mets if they deal Matsui this offseason.
  9. white sox- def. Konerko if: astros- Lance Berkman or one of their pitchers
  10. can anyone tell me why adam everett was put on the batting lineup for today's game?? he's the definition of choke in the playoffs, grounded out to end the 2nd inning and is now frigging 0 for 15 with RISP in the playoffs. ---------------------------------------------- oh what the hell McCarver? this stupid ass "seperated by birth" side by side comparison of Freddy Garcia and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? this is a waste of tv air, they do not at all look alike.
  11. i cant wait to praise the day baseball gets a new commisioner. if the above is true, this assinine thing goes along with forcing the astros to have their roof open, no reason for him to meddle. Uh-oh, the Sox are offering Theo $1.2 million a season. Bud Selig would you look around? yes I know its hard for you to do so... Brian Cashman has been signed to a contract of 3 seasons for $5-8 million. The Braves GM will be paid 1.7 million in 2006. And even the Sox in 02 had offered former GM a 5 season deal worth $12.5 million. So I dont see the big deal why he needs to but in where he's not wanted.
  12. without a doubt he was the best AL hitter, if not best of the majors, of 2005 and was the Sox's savior throughout the season. Walkoff hits alone came in bunches for him congratulations big papi, much congrats
  13. i am rooting for the astros through and through. but a part of me hopes this gets over soon the sooner the offseason begins, im quite anxious to get the ball rolling
  14. are you that young, you obviously are because you are talking as if mattingly was your average joe ballplayer. growing up as a red sox fan, the type of great player he was I had wanted him to be on the red sox. 1985 AL MVP Mattlingly is a 6 time All-Star (1984-1989) 10 time gold glove winner (1985-1994) 3 silver slugger awards for a 1st baseman (1985-1987) 5 time batting champ (1984-1988)
  15. umm Id stand by his decision on that. Papelbon is untouchable, no such trade Sox would ever make or ever consider. ive heard many times Sox FO's plans have papelbon a big part of the 2006 rotation. regardless if its for santana or whoever, Paps is staying in boston.
  16. yes a $200 million roster makes it to the world series? wait one second no it does not. Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright big blockbuster deals I must say. Actually I am aware of my team's history, things are about to change because with the farm system the Sox have, the prospects will be coming through the Fenway Park's doors. i was implying with ways looking like they are now, years down the road lester and paps will be at the top of their game, like Pedro and Schil were.
  17. i never wanted arod, (2) hes an ******* (3) he chokes when it comes to the playoffs, 2004 ALCS to 05 ALDS batted .133, hail the conquering mvp my ass. Im sorry but Arod is not worth over $200 million. omg dude shut the hell up, Schilling is a 10-5 guy which meant he could void any trades he didnt like, going to the Yankees was big on his no list. I listed it because it was a wow deal for us Sox fans. First of all i didnt ever say its been a great farm system for many years, it started to come around when Theo came on board and made all the right decisions and drafts starting in 2003, which means none of the prospects yet were ready to test their feet. anyways... this season, need i say Papelbon? I will give all the stats that you want, because this kid will be the future ace of the team. And he didnt stumble when it came down to the stretch. And yes we do have an excellent farm system. Lester and Papelbon will be what Schil and Pedro were for the Sox. Anibel Sanchez should be up in the bigs by 2007. I could go on and on why Im proud of the up and coming players.
  18. that makes no sense because I believe Hanley is one of the Sox's "untouchables" prospects. He is in their future. Besides when sox trade for a 1st baseman, the likely candidates to be traded off are Arroyo, Alvarez, and Shoppach or Stern
  19. so what about the deal done for the then minnesota twins Ortiz (though not wow at the time), who in just over a season after being acquired became one of, if not the most feared hitter in baseball--- A certain wow deal was to bring Curt Schilling to Voston, it was meant to bring the Sox to the Series... and yeah he kind of delivered what Theo signed him for. Another thing is that instead of trading away prospects like candy, Theo has guarded them as untouchables and with his drafting choices, the Red Sox farm market is clearly in the top 5. ooh wow you got arod for $200+million who cant do anything when it comes to the playoffs. randy johnson has been erratic since he got to New York, sometimes he will be good and other share of time well... he gets his fair share of boos. its been noted many times Larry Lucchino and Theo do not get along that well
  20. well done thread, and i agree with you that the only way those trades could happen is on the mlb 2006 game. i mean hey in the game i had traded just david wells and a single a prospect to get roger clemens just for the lefty situational guy, Sox are leaning toward Mike Myers. I have no objections towards that, he held an ERA under 3 and held left handed hitters to a .151 avg. And i read recently that both Delcarmen and Hansen will start off the season with the Pawtucket Sox. I cant wait for Delcarmen, because he is a pure strikeout pitcher as well as he is a 100% Boston guy. No doubt Delcarmen will inherit the setup role when Timlin leaves, which would be im guessing in 2007. In 2004 Sox had a great trio of Embree, Timlin and Foulke. 2005 saw that trio break up and Timlin left standing as the only one who could actually get outs, Embree released in July and Foulke turned into an injured jerk. My choices to take that "7th inning" role are Matt Mantei (a chance Sox take him back, surgery mightve done wonders), or free agents BJ Ryan, Scott Eyre
  21. you dont understand, do you? Is soriano a good OBP guy that Sox front office loves? no the hell he is not with average of 30-35 walks a season, .309 OBP in 2005 yuck. by now he's been in the bigs awhile, and i dont see anything papa jack can help him with his plate presence, nothing against papa jack. also soriano hits .250 or lower with RISP. hence why a big portion of his HRs each season is just solo shots. "he's no tony g", compare that to tony's higher .366 OBP and batting .323 with RISP, and batting .323 with RISP/2 outs. How about fielding errors as well?? Soriano from 2001-05 has made over 100 errors, avering 20 or more a season. Tony G from 1997-05 has made 68 errors, or an average of 7/8 errors a season. plus as i said before, there is no reason for the sox to deal for the 29 year old Soriano---(1) a trade with the rangers would demand a top pitching prospect like anibel sanchez (2) triple A dustin pedroia is expected to get the starting nod this spring or platoon with either alex cora or tony g for 2006. mark my words soriano will only play at fenway park as an opposing player.
  22. this is the deal theo should get. once he hears about this, you know it will be nagging at him during the ngotiations. sox have so far just offered him $800K a season. Such a contract offer of $5 million for 3 seasons was offered to then GM Billy Beane.
  23. well obviously he knows a new 1st baseman will be acquired, and the options (Ryan Shealy, Chad Tracy, Ryan Howard, Aubrey Huff, Lyle Overbay) for the Sox will be acquired through trades not FA's). trades id take over soriano trade any day, he has and always will have a mediocre OBP and RISP avgs. and what do you mean if Millar is let go? its a definite they will have him walk on to another team. Olerud will of course be back, but as the 1st base backup for 2006.
  24. Soriano alone would be a trade, with rangers demanding a top pitching prospect. they would balk at abe alvarez, and insist on anibel sanchez or even jon lester
