Pauley still held the Blue Jays to 2 runs through the first 4, something clement or beckett couldnt do. Doing that helped the Sox stay in the game and win this one
Papelbon with major league leading 19 saves
Jermaine Van Burem with 1st major league win
Mark Loretta's HR extended his major league leading 15 game hitting streak
Manny & Van Buren continue to look solid for us.
2006 Bullpen would be great to look like: Papelbon, Timlin, Foulke, Manny, Van Buren, Hansen & Tavarez (12 man pitching staff)
Youre reading way too much into a 22 year old's major league debut. Let alone its against the best hitting team in all of baseball. Talking about $130 million payroll we have... ok what available good free agent starting pitchers are there? None. Jon Lester wasnt available because he just threw on Sunday. Abe Alvarez & Matt Ginter are both soft-throwing lefties, Blue Jays would most definitely kill them even more. But yea for a kid who has never seen above double a batters, he sucks.
Its his first game above double A, and against the best hitting team in baseball. How clear do you think his head is right now? Im giving him a mulligan on this one
hey jsinger know of any good catching prospects. They had Theo on WEEI, he relayed that the Sox are very much into looking to bulk up their catching in the minors.
Lester looked even worse in his starts in ST, as did many other pitchers... Its just spring training, when pitchers (especially young ones) arent yet fully into their groove
