  1. I wouldn't be surprised to see the sox take a run at Kazmir when he becomes available. He will probably demand too much money from TB, and if you can't beat 'em, join em. All the sox need to do is get Kazmir and Lilly and they will be great.
  2. Lester, Hansen, Clemens... any one would be fine. Let's just stop pretending that DiNardo and Wells are going to get us to the playoffs.
  3. Didn't the Yanks get swept by the Royals in a very similar situation (they're hot, KC's not) about this time last year?
  4. Lester is here to stay for awhile. The sox will need the SP, they will be on the hunt for a big name free agent after this season (hopefully) and will add Lester, Hansen and/or Papelbon to the rotation too. Papelbon Beckett Schilling Lester Clement that's a nice rotation.
  5. Beckett is a different pitcher than WIllis. Willis is, obviously, a lefty, to begin with. He hits 94 or so when he's throwing well, though I must admit that at times his velocity impressed me last year. Beckett has amazing stuff. I'm listening to a linked interview from WEEI on BDD and he just said verbatim "I've never had Josh Beckett's stuff". That means a lot coming from someone with the mouth (god love it) and the stuff of Schilling. I don't want this to become a Beckett thread, but do people think he will develop a splitter in the next year or two? That pitch would be devistating with his curve, heater and change (which I don't think he's throwing enough, btw).
  6. Nobody here is suspicious of Pujols at all? I am too skeptical of any HR records that fall these days and I WANT to love Pujols. I really do. He's tremendous and very classy. After reading Game of Shadows though I don't feel like anyone is clean anymore... except I double-standardly give most of the Red Sox the benefit of the doubt, but Manny and Papi are hitting what good HR hitters have always hit... 40+ HR is a great season. 20 HR halfway through May is suspicious. OR, he could be the best hitter who has ever lived... which is also a real possibility.
  7. Many people say Lester could be better than papelbon. Yes, yes, they are unproven, but so was Albert Pujols and Manny Ramirez, Pedro Martinez and King Felix. Some teams fear the unproven (yankees) and others know it is a fact of life (everybody else). You are so wrong its not even funny about the Marlins "cutting their losses" getting rid of Beckett. Cutting their losses? How about cutting their chance of having a big loss by letting him go to FA after this season? That makes a little more sense. Jack Mackeon left there saying Beckett was the best of the group, and clearly superior to Burnett. He won a WS MVP only 2.5 seasons ago. Cutting their losses... ha. That's like saying Texas was cutting its losses when it sent A-Rod to NY. Whawt a joke. Cutting their losses on a 25 year old stud starting pitcher. C'mon man. You're smarter than that.
  8. I know you are Theo's Assistant and all, but why do you keep pushing this point as if its an obvious fact. The fact is that IF Florida were to try to deal with the Red Sox and IF the Sox wanted to deal with Florida, then Boston would probably NOT set its offer as 3-4 tremendous prospects to get it done, but would start with Lester plus one or two middle tier guys, and possibly work up to two top prospects, but they wouldn't go higher than that and if florida wanted Lester bad enough, they would take it. They clearly wanted Hanley and Anibel; perhaps they want Lester that badly. The sox know what Lester is worth, and so do many other teams. He was the unnamed pitcher in the A-rod/Manny deal for crying out loud, and that was 3 seasons ago. Nobody thought the sox would land Beckett for three prospects, except for the Sox and the Marlins FO. The marlins would want good players they can afford, not proven mlb talent necessarily.
  9. UHGHHHG You like that! You like that! Sit DOWN A-Rod. You don't stop the ball on D, and you will sit down NOW with the tying run on 2nd. Nice Timlin.
  10. c'mon Timmy! You are the man
  11. So what? Stop harping on it. Giambi sucks on D, cairo isn't a natural 1bman, you guys care more about offense than about defense and it shows all over the place.
  12. Sigh.... Foulke worries me in this type of situation
  13. No foulke. C'mon Timlin, finish this inning man.
  14. Giambi is so obviously back on the roids its not even funny
  15. The Red Sox killer Damon with a weak gb to 2B.
  16. Come on Timlin. Will it be Timlin and Papelbon from here on out, or will it be Timlin and Foulke and Papelbon? Tough call. Probably Timlin for 5 outs and Paps for 4 if it works out that way... Go sox!
  17. Youk's pretty damn good at 1st though. Sweet youkilis.
  18. Amen. Perhaps the yankees will finally realize that defense matters. Like the sox did the hard way the last few years.
  19. Hefe with a harmless fly to LF. C'mon manny, early runs are necessary with Wake on the hill.
  20. Meanwhile, theres baseball to be played.
  21. I didn't want to be pesimistic, but that's what I think too. I broke my ankle once playing hockey, very similar thing. Supporting weight, looking fine... then snap, like a limp noodle.
  22. I hope its nothing serious because Matsui is a respectable enough guy. However, I don't remember the Yankees having many serious offensive injuries over the past few years. I don't mind seeing a little offensive confusion once in awhile.
