I'm not denying that you're missing 2 of your good hitters. But what if DiceK is only pitching at 85% efficiency tonight? What if next time he pitches at 100%? Can you show me that a more effective Dice K couldn't POSSIBLY make up for the offensive upgrade at the bottom of the order? I don't think you can.
What you are denying is that THIS IS STILL THE YANKEES LINEUP. Last year Posada was healthy, but they wouldn't play him when RJ pitched. Is he the second coming of Johnny Bench? no. He's a very good hitter but he has plenty of 0'Fer nights like any other hitter does. The Yankees are their starters, and their bench players. You may not like that, but its a fact.
Let's look at the phrase "missing 2 of our better hitters". I would take that to mean that those two are in the top half of hitters in your usual lineup. Right? I mean, that's what "Better" means, above average, top half seem fair?
I would currently rate Damon, Jeter, Abreu and A-Rod above either Matsui or Posada. Weren't Matsui and Posada hitting at the bottom of the order? So, they're not even the top 50% of your lineup. Is that some of your "better" hitters by this definition? I think they are good hitters, but are they your BETTER hitters? Not by a long shot.
