  1. Here comes a bunt to move the guy to 2nd...
  2. No, this is a Red Sox board. Your innane commentary about the Yankees game is in the context of how it relates to the Sox. Sox up 8-1
  3. He's a great player to root against and his cost and money grubbing nature only add to that. I admit he's a very good hitter and a great player, but I'm only going to give him that. He's a Yankee and he makes me sick to my stomach. Good idea Gardner, fake the bunt with a man on second and one out.
  4. More bunting with 0 out and a man on 1st. Hopefully it doesn't work.
  5. That's good, cause he's costing a pretty-penny.
  6. I hate the sac to second w 0 down. Hope they prove me wrong.
  7. Teixeira and Arod are both on roids.
  8. A package around Bowden would be WAY too much to pay for him in my opinion. As a 4th OF he would be alright. That's not much of a rumor: a few teams have scouted him, take it for what it's worth.
  9. I would expect improvement from Beckett, Lester and Matsuzaka. Beckett has looked good in his past few starts, Dice-K was out the whole month (and is shady now) and Lester is still getting K's but he's getting hit otherwise. Point being that while we can't expect much from offensive improvement, the pitching shoudl be better than it has been. The starting pitching.
  10. Where were all the detailed comparisons between the Yankees and Sox when the Yanks were behind? This has all the makings of a "rub it in your face/pat self on the back" post... Oh well, you deserve it Jacko. The Yankees are the better (hotter) team right now. The Sox pitching has been its strong point the past few years and I expect it will be again by the end of the season. If Ortiz doesn't come around though then this team is in trouble, unless Theo does something pretty significant. It seems like the runners on base follow him wherever he goes and he is just a cliff off of which potential runners fall to their death. The Red Sox are not built to have gaping dead spot in their lineup. Does it remind you of the Yankees situation with Giambi the past few years? It should be interesting to see if Theo does anything, and compare what he does with what Cashman did. I'm inclined to think that he won't and that he will let it play out, that in a few weeks this team will have seperated itself from the rest of the AL East (Yankees not included) and that the WC will be within their sights for the rest of the season. Mark Teixeira would have really helped this team out. Douchebag.
  11. In quoting my post are you trying to say something? I read carefully... :dunno:
  12. The story when he was drafted was that the Sox liked him as a SS, but were really excited about his potential as a pitcher. I would never sneeze at a potential MLB SS with power, speed, etc., and I don't expect the Sox to do so. At the same time, I think they love developing pitchers. It really seems to be what they're best at. Clay Buchholz was a JC pitcher who had only been throwing for a few years when he was drafted. Kelly's early success says that even if he doesn't like pitching as much, he's got some pretty elite talent (elite compared to, say, you and I).
  13. JD doesn't really rake. He's a great hitter, with excellent plate control, when he swings he hits the ball hard, but he's got to be one of the quietest .900 OPS hitters I have ever seen. Hell, I'm not complaining. Like Kilo said, he plays a good RF in a tough RF to play, he's been more or less healthy for an extended period (despite chronic problems), and he's a better middle of the order bat than most teams have. He's good. Still, find something to do with Papi. He's a collapsed star, a black hole, whatever you want to call it. Get him glasses or lasik or something, let him sort it out at AAA and then give him another shot. We all want him to be successful.
  14. I think Dan Bard for Nick Johnson would make a lot more sense. He may have a higher upside than Manny D but he doesn' thave the track record of success and health that Delcarmen does. The Sox give up someone who has some question marks and the Nats give up a guy who has some question marks. That said, is it possible that the bidding "settled" on Manny Delcarmen because the Sox were unwilling to move Bard? Which one of them is the bigger prize?
  15. Didn't they say he was going to pitch 100 innings and then convert to a SS? If he is at Salem he may find hitting to be more difficult and decide that he has a better chance as a pitcher.
  16. All this... ... and nobody really comments on the fact that he basically stopped throwing his splitter in the middle of 2008. That's a pretty big loss in terms of his 'stuff', as I'm sure people remember some of the games over the past few years where he was throwing splits that just fell off the table. Did anyone think there was any reason for him to change from the FB/SPLIT combination that he had in 07 and the first part of 08? I thought, at the time, that those two pitches could be enough for him to be successful for the rest of his career (a la Rivera with the FB and the CUTTER). Now, suddenly--and without much fanfare at all--he is throwing occasional sliders and hardly ever throwing a split. We can talk mechanics all we want, but if Beckett suddenly stopped throwing his curve, or if Oki stopped throwing his okey-dokey changeup would we be discussing mechanics and control, or would we be discussing why he changed the pitches he offers? I think there is something injury-related. Either the split was one of the reasons that his shoulder supposedly tired at the end of seasons, or they saw weakening and had him stop, or he decided to stop to get that big FA contract in a few years. I don't buy that it wasn't effective (I thought it was one of the best pitches in baseball), or that he was worried that Tek couldn't catch it (there is nothing to support that). Overall, I would say that Papelbon without his splitter is a MUCH less valuable pitcher than he was with it. He is still an elite closer, but for how long none of us can be sure.
  17. Having watched so many games over the past few years, I feel lie about 1/3 of their games are pretty pathetic efforts. I agree that it's pathetic, but I just am not that bothered by it. Again, thankful for long season.
  18. Yeah, they should be 162-0 goddamn it!
  19. I don't disagree. I picked the Yankees to win the division this year. You know, when Baseball Tonight asked for my opinion.
