  1. It was a nickname that we all used to use a lot a few years ago. I guess it just sort of went out of style.
  2. I'm certainly laughing.
  3. These Red Sox are reminding me more and more of the 2013 Red Sox.
  4. Wow, I forgot Zach Duke existed. I remember when my great-uncle thought that this kid was going to be the Pirate's version of Roger Clemens for the next fifteen years or so. How'd that work out for you, Uncle Don?
  5. Are you trying to see how many times you can post s*** like this before we get tired of you? Knock it off already. Seriously.
  6. I gave the announcer the benefit of the doubt on that. We all know that TV and radio announcers stumble over their words and occasionally Spoonerize things. I assumed that he meant to say just "Bradley" and sort of marble-mouthed his way into accidentally looking like an idiot.
  7. Please refrain from rehashing arguments, bannings, or other negative events from previous sites. We're really trying (and so far succeeding!) to get everyone from BDC and elsewhere off to a fresh start!
  8. Oops. Yeah, obviously I meant Lowe. Now that it's been brought up, though, Mike Lowell turned out to be a much better throw-in than the kind of guys you usually get.
  9. I honestly believe that the one single trade of Slocumb for Varitek and Lowell makes up for every bad trade before and after it. That move was a large part of the Sox's first WS championship in 86 years and Varitek was part of the second one, as well.
  10. Wily Mo Pena for Bronson Arroyo. Arroyo pitched pretty consistently for a few years after that, I would have much rather kept him in the rotation than have the strikeout machine that was Pena. Wily Mo could hit some seriously long home runs, but there were way too many outs in between them.
  11. Porcello. Maybe other guys could be argued as having a bigger impact (Ortiz, for example), but given what was expected of him, Porcello has blown everything away, and that deserves recognition.
  12. But how do we know that it's because of his weight and not just because he had a sucky year? Or that he just sucks?
  13. I don't deny that it is probably having an effect on his defense. A man his size has all the range of a fencepost. But clearly weight is not a thing that holds back hitters, because as I said, there have been plenty of fat hitters in the past. For that matter, there have been a lot of fat pitchers, so clearly the pitching motions (which, like hitting, involve a lot of rotation and movement while standing in one place) doesn't necessarily suffer if a guy is fat. I'm just wondering why everyone focuses on it, and wondering if anyone thinks he would be a better hitter, or a better acquisition for the Red Sox, if he loses the weight.
  14. Holy s*** that guy is less than a year older than me, he looks like he's forty. Man, and I thought I was out-of-shape for my age.
  15. I have a question that has occurred to me previously, which I have never actually asked before: What is the reasoning behind harping on Sandoval's weight? I mean, yeah, the only reason the IAU declassified Pluto as a planet was so they could elevate Sandoval, but what is the point of consistently pressing the suggestion that he lose weight? He was hitting terribly last season. Does anyone think that being slimmer will suddenly turn him into a force at the plate? Hitting is mostly about hand-eye coordination and strength, and as we all know, there have been plenty of fat baseball players who were excellent hitters. Prince Fielder springs to mind. Hell, Big Papi is much closer to Sandoval's physique than he is to Brock Holt's.
  16. Welcome to TalkSox!
  17. At this point, Chase Headley should really just concede his at bats. There should be a provision for that. A rule that says a player can walk up to the plate, lay his bat on the ground, and make a chopping motion in front of his throat as if to say "I'm going to be out, let's not waste each other's time and energy."
  18. Dellin Betances is the Yankees vaunted bullpen pitcher. Twice this series, he's thrown his first pitch only to watch it sail into the Monster seats. I f***ing love it.
  19. Why steal with Papi up? If Papi gets a hit, chances are it's one that will score Bradley regardless of whether he's on second or third.
  20. UN?, give him a break. It took a lot for Divinity to come and post on TalkSox while the Yankees are playing badly. It's the first time he's ever done it!
  21. You can put it onnnn the boooaaaard, UH-YES! You scramble to listen to that every night? I think that's one of the first signs of a future serial killer.
  22. I'm turning 29 this year. My mother is turning 48 this year. I was born a few months before her 19th birthday. Hey, it was the 80's.
