  1. Byrd in the 4th spot, I think. Unless it's foggy out, then Wake.
  2. So that's what happened to Lowell's other one!
  3. Oh, and to our veteran members: Remember you were new once yourselves. When a new member creates a thread in the wrong forum, let them know what the proper thing to do is, rather than just poke fun at them. No one will ever learn the right thing to do unless you longtime members inform them of it, right?
  4. There has been a minor but noticeable increase in registration during the first few days of the postseason. We would like to start off by thanking all of our new users for choosing Talksox.com for their online Red Sox discussion destination, and welcoming you to the site. Due to the influx of new members, we believe that a fresh explanation of some of the site's basic rules is in order. The standard message board regulations apply here. No pornographic or otherwise obscene imagery. Keep the profanity to a minimum ('minimum' here at TalkSox being slightly more than other sites). No attacking or consistent insulting of each other. You know, the usual. One of the TalkSox site rules that is not widely posted and therefore hard for new members to learn regards the categories of the forums and which of those categories a thread you may wish to start belongs in. General Baseball Discussion is for specific topics regarding teams, transactions, or happenings in the Major Leagues that do not directly involve the Red Sox or the Yankees. Each of those two teams has a seperate forum for topics concerning them. Anything Goes is for topics that either contain personal arguments or discussions not related to baseball and which contain content not suitable for the OffTopic Discussion Forum. When you want to post a thread, the first thing you should do is check the first page of the forum you are posting in to ensure that a similar or identical topic has not been posted. If it has, and you post your topic, they will be merged. Do not take this as a personal insult. In order to facilitate discussion we want to keep as many different topics on the main pages as possible, avoiding clutter. We all love the Red Sox. (Well, most of us. There are a few Yankees fans and even a White Sox fan or two registered here). While we appreciate and share your love for the Sox and your enthusiasm when they succeed, it is preferable that you express this love and adoration in the gamethreads for the days on which they occur. "I love Josh Beckett", "I love the Sawx", "Go Boston", and "I want to rub Dustin Pedroia's premature male pattern baldness spot for good luck" are all feelings we can agree with, but in a forum such as General Baseball Discussion, they simply clutter the board and push topics about the world of baseball further down the page. If you absolutely feel you must create a new topic solely to say 'Go Sox', the proper forum for that would be Anything Goes, because there...well, anything goes! In essence...please be sure that a topic you create belongs in the forum you create it in, and never hesitate to send a private message to one of the Moderation Team, or post a topic in The Front Desk forum, if you need advice, help, or any other form of assistance from us. Thank you for reading! Remember...enjoy the site, never be afraid to say what you want, and of course... GO SOX!
  5. Velasquez? Man, now we're unstoppable!
  6. Lowell's throws this inning scared me.
  7. And the MVP chants begin for Pedroia.
  8. My predictions: Sox win anywhere from 6-8 to 1. Youk has a big night with at least one HR, as does Pedroia. Beckett pitches 7 2/3 scoreless.
  9. I know CC is a decent hitter, but using him to PH in the third down 5-0? Really?
  10. PITTSBURGH- A week after missing the postseason for the first time since the 1990s, Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman announced that owner Hank Stienbrenner has begun negotiations with other team owners and MLB executives to purchase the Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, and Washington Nationals. Inside sources say the deal may already be done. "We feel as an organization, our best chance to bring home another World Series title to New York is to increase our 300-man roster for the 2009 season", said Cashman in a recent interview with USA Today. Ownership of the Royals, Pirates, and Nationals are reportedly open to the possibility of the buyout, but players are skeptical of the benefits, especially concerned with playing time on a team with such a deep bench. "How will I ever get an opportunity to pinch-hit?" said current Royal Mark Teahen. "I'm going to have twenty guys on the bench in front of me. I mean, at least in the postseason I'll get the start ahead of A-Rod, but what about the rest of the year?" Pitchers, too, expressed reluctance to accept the deal as a positive career move. Pirates youngster Tom Gorzelanny was tentatively announced as the 45th starter in manager Joe Girardi's rotation, behind Zack Grienke, Paul Maholm, and some guy, but pitchers like Washingtons' Garrett Mock and Kansas City's Kyle Davies were moved to the 58-man bullpen. Hank Stienbrenner was not available for comment, but released a statement assuring New York fans that the Yankees would indeed work hard to make it to the postseason 'even if we have to buy those god damn Mets' as well. Cashman later said that negotiations with Omar Minaya fell through when he refused to provide proof of Scott Schoenwiess' death before the purchase. The effect on postseason play will be unnoticed, said Commissoner Bud Selig, because teams will be created to fill the voids left by the three dissolved franchises. Possible candidates are the Boise Fleas, Sheboygan Lumps, and the Walla Walla Mother-of-Pearl Sox. Whatever the outcome, it will surely be an interesting year in New York baseball. "Just think" Cashman added at the end of the press conference held to announce the involuntary exile of Carl Pavano from the mainland United States and all outlying territories, "we traded young guys to get Nady and...that other guy. Now we get them back! It's like free talent! Dude! I'm so smart!" The press conference ended abruptly when Cashman recieved a texted photo of a champagne bottle next to a pair of buttocks with a smiley face drawn on them from Boston Red Sox GM Theo Epstien.
  11. I needed the money. My job wouldn't give me the time off of work, and I couldn't get a passport, so I couldn't fly with Ami's parents to Vietnam for the family ceremony with her ashes... So Im taking a week off instead of three and going up to our annual campsite in Maine. Her parents gave me half of the ashes, so I'm going to spread some in the clearing in the forest where we had our campsite and put the rest into the river rapids where we always went swimming. It seemed more important than the game for me.
  12. Go Sox. I sold my tickets to this game for two grand.
  13. I would say something witty and make everyone laugh, but it isn't even worth it. All I really need to say is LOL. That's it. LOL at the Cubs. LOL at the poor, wretched Cubs. LOL.
  14. Jesus Cora, get the frick out of Pedroias way.
