    To this day I am of the opinion that they should have given Renteria one more year before getting rid of him. Offensively, he was not bad and probably even would have improved, and defensively I think he would have reverted to normal from the mess he displayed in '05. I think they were too quick with the hook.

    Actually, you know who I miss? Nick Green. That guy was decent for the Sox when they needed him. Much more useful than Punto.

    Exactly. Sex should always be both offensive and defensive. Violence without defense is unfair and defense without violence is silly. Now, baseball! I agree that Punto should go but bringing up an injured rookie to replace him would be stupid. You'd risk ruining a potential star just to rush him to fill a sucky guy's spot. There has to be someone in the big leagues now who can replace Punto but not suck quite as much. I miss guys like Rob Mackowiak. Career utility guys that you could count on for a little pop now and then. Nick Punto has about the same number of career home runs as Carlos Zambrano.

    Punto is beyond "suck". I guess we deserved it though. After snagging Ortiz from Minnesota the Sox kind of deserved it. I'm still waiting on Seattle's revenge for the Slocumb thing.

    Anyways, sarcasm and my love for Youk aside, I do think it was time for him to go. I agree with a700 that I would have rather seen him go to the NL, but on the whole I like the job Cherington has been doing. It's going to be bizarre seeing Youk in a different uniform.

    There have been plenty of guys who can handle every position except pitcher/catcher. Guess where they all are? AAA, or selling cars, because they hit like someone teaching their grandkids to play wiffle ball.
