  1. That would surely be an interesting choice. Doubt it though. Who knows, we'll see.
  2. He's about to speak...wonder what he has to say
  3. Not at all. i can understand where both sides are coming from, and I understand why Torre turned it down, but I won't go as far to say that it was a ridiculously unfair offer, because it wasn't.
  4. Yes, but at the time there were quite a few bitter departures within the Red Sox. I said that things like that don't particularily happen like that, and in this case when they do they still manage to put out a fair offer. Not that it justifies it at all, but those Sox incidents were disastrous as I recall. A lot of things fell apart with a lot of people. Granted, I have to eat my words now because the Yankees did do someting similar to Joe, but come on it was a mess up in Boston this time of year the past few years. Not that it has anything to do with the matter at hand, you just like being argumentative, especially with me. It gets you off and puts a smile on your face so have fun man. Say what you wanna say. Nice to know you've been waiting for this chance though to bring all that stuff up though. Means quite a bit.
  5. Where am I jumping? I never declared myself strictly a Met fan and not a Yankee fan. I'm not jumping from wagon to wagon, what are you talking about? hahaha my mistake. You did say however "It's real refreshing to hear it from someone new on this board". Can't really blame me too much...just a misunderstanding. He's not. I never said he was the best manager in the A.L. I just said that I would take him over Francona. He's been an American League manager for four seasons, excuse me.
  6. I don't root passionately for the Mets. Casually, yes, but certainly not passionately. I do also root casually for the Nets, Giants, and Rangers while I consider myself a fan of the Jets, Knicks, and Islanders. I live in New York. There is nothing wrong with pulling for a team from New York to do well. When it comes to head to head competition between the teams I am passionate about and the teams I casually pull for on the side then make no mistake about where my loyalties lie. That's their opinion which everybody is certainly entitled to. Terry Francona has been the Sox's manager for four seasons. He has nowehre near qualified himself for the distinction as the American League's best manager. No way. Look at the roster he had to work with. What do you want from the guy? SInce joining the Twins he's done a close to fantastic job there. New? Guess again, buddy. Why don't you do me one better and tell me why Francona is the best manager in the Aerican League. Please entertain my mind and tell me why the stoodge of the Red Sox front office, forced to follow their managerial formula, is better than more experienced, successful, and established managers (i.e. Torre, Leyland, Scioscia, etc.)
  7. http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20071019&content_id=2272450&vkey=pr_kc&fext=.jsp&c_id=kc I think he should have held out a while, may have had a shot with the Yanks. It's pretty surprising that this came about so soon. Hillman's Fighters just won their 2nd straight Pacific League pennant and are on their way to the Nippon Series, just as soon as the Central League playoffs conclude (Go Giants!). I think he'll fit in pretty well in KC, but we'll see come next season.
  8. Hey ORS, where ya at? You like to jump on people you allege to be homers and make biased statements. This post clearly represents that! Terry Francona best manager in the American League? Are you serious? You MUST be kidding me. Better than Torre? No way. Better than Leyland? Yeah right! Better than Scioscia....nope! Ron Gardenhire? I wouldn't say so. You're out of your mind and I suggest you seek some help.
  9. Give it a f***ing rest, would you? I really hope you NEVER root for any team other than the Red Sox. And if there is every any evidence that you have on this board, you will NEVER hear the end of it. And you do it for no reason too.....what relevance does your ridiculous picture have in regards to the topic? Enough with the stupid, pointless posts please.
  10. Nobody can disagree that the approach taken by the Yankees was the wrong one. Yeah, he should have gotten a better offer, but I still maintain that all things considered it was a pretty fair offer. He knows he's been under fire the past few years, so being asked to take a paycut, if he was asked back at all shouldnt have surprised him. The length of the offer put him in the position to be on a short leash next year, pretty much at ownership's disposal with a reduced salary and nothing guaranteed for the following year. Basically either way you look at it, I think it can be said that if the Yankees really wanted him back, they could have done more to accomodate him, and vice versa. Joe is 67 years old, how long does he want guaranteed? If he REALLLLY wanted to be back he could have taken the offer. I think both parties just realized that either way, they were prepared to move on.
  11. More like YIKES!!!!!! f*** Sean McDonough. Anybody have any other info on this? As for Joe, while alot of people see the offer as disrespectful and unfair I dont think it was that bad at all. While being asked to take a paycut, he has the opportunity to get a pay raise. And if he made it to the series he gets his second year, and wish to manage the Yankees in the new stadium. But we really have to reserve judgement for now, at least until we hear Joe's side of it. At this point the story reflects well on the Yankees, but there has to be another aspect to the story.
  12. Also, if somebody wants to unsticky the 05-06 version and replace it with this one or something go right ahead.
  13. I'm not even talking about him being a bust, he's just nowhere near worth what he's getting payed considering his past injuries and inconsistant play. I just happen to think that was a dumb signing on the Red Sox's part. yeah, you're right. I was buggin lol. I was thinking about it then decided to just look at trades made under Theo's tenure and that was one of them that just caught my interest lol. Definately insignificant, just used it as an example. The field, the city, both, whatever it may be he couldn't handle it. I was just saying you can't blame Theo for making that move, Rent was just a bust unfortunately (for you guys). I wasn't trying to be confrontational at all in that post, for some reason I think ytou took it that way. All examples of good/great moves, which I will happily acknowledge. As will I the bad ones.
  14. pretty much
  15. I can't even say anything about Gagne, because I was devestated when you guys got him. Anybody would have made that move. Just so turns out that it didnt quite go Boston's way.
  16. The J.D. Drew signing was Theo Epstein's single biggest mistake as general manager of the Boston Red Sox. No was does a guy with his track record get that huge contract........no way. I made that statement when he was signed, and I echo that now. TERRIBLE signing. Lugo wasn't a very good one either, but I can understand why and where he was coming from. It wasn't terrible, but again, it wasn't very good. The Wily Mo deal tuened out to be a disaster, but few opposed it at the time, can't really blame him. Matt Clement!? :/ How about this one going back before 2003......Josh Hancock for Jeremy Giambi? Now, things unfortunately didn't turn out too well for Hancock, as we all know. But who in their right mind trades a pitching prospect for JEREMY GIAMBI? Anyone know where that loser is now? Last I remember of him he signed a minor league deal wih the White Sox a few years back and got released...havent heard anything since. I understand you were desperate for a center fielder, but I would have never traded Andy Marte, considered the best prospect in baseball at the time, along with Mota (remember this is before he tested positive for steroids...he was still considered a pretty nasty thrower despite his struggles), and Shoppach, you're catcher of the future at the time for Crisp, Riske, and Bard. Riske and Bard both departed Boston that same year...before mid-season, and Crisp has done a respectable job, but probably not what everyone had hoped for. Also, can't kill him for Edgar Renteria...but that one was a disaster as well. Ol' Eddy just couldnt handle the s***** Fenway infield. Now yes, Theo has made some great moves and is responsible for bringing that pennant and ringn to Boston. But the guy isn't Jesus Christ as some Sox fans may portray him to be. Despite great moves such as Ortiz, Okajima, etc. he has made some pretty s***** ones.
  17. Yeah, theres nothing wrong with rooting for a team that plays in the city you live. They compete with the Yankees 6 times a year, so with the exception of those 6 times I hav no problem rooting for the Mets. Lots of people have allegiances with more than one team, if I were to guess I would say that the Red SOx werent the only team you pull for. Now how many more times are you going to point out that I root for the mets too? Seems like every other post of yours that I read there is some mention of it. ...also, how is this relevant to the post of mine that you quoted? Just another Boston bum who has nothing better to do than try to pull strings and instigate conflict.
  18. Decided to start it now as transactions were beginning to occur rather than until after the World Series or into November that way I can just keep up easily rather than being overwhelmed with a bunch of moves that had already occured that I would have to hunt down. That was one of the things that discouraged me last year (along with a busy schedule and having a lot on my hands), so I wanted to prevent it from being an issue this year. Last year not doing this I felt a little out of the loop when Spring Training rolled around and I saw Player A in camp with Club B, and so on.

  20. This is the 2007-2008 Offseason Acquisition Guide. This guide lists all players who were/will be acquired by teams during the 2007-2008 Offseason (October 1, 2007-April 1, 2008) via Free Agency, Trade, Waivers, and Rule 5. Letters before the players name determine what type of transaction occured. If there is a t. before the players name, it was a trade. If there is a w. before the players name, it was a waiver pickup. If is a 5. before the players name, it was a Rule 5 pickup, if there is a 5r. before the players name he was returned to his original club by the club that selected him in the Rule 5 draft, and if there is nothing before the players name it was a Free Agent signing. This list only lists players who are joining a new club for the 2008 season, not players re-joining their 2007 club. If you see that there is a move not listed (Major or Minor), please make mention of it throughout the thread, preferably with a link (it could even be a link to a transaction page. Doesnt necessarily have to be to a report specifically mentioning the transaction in question). I will not update the list on a daily basis. usually once or twice a week, depending on my schedule. It will not be the most complete list, as I will not be able to list every minor league Free Agent signing, trade, etc. But this list will be pretty damn close to complete. Like I said, feel free to add contributions to make it more complete. Thanks, list is in following Post. Also, I would appreciate it if mods, admins, etc. did not update the list. I dont want any conflictions between this list and the list I have on my computer. If there is a transaction not listed, please let me know so I can make the update.
  21. Jesus Christ 700, give it a rest would you.
