  1. Like I understand the Government's stance on this and it all makes sense, ya know. But Cuba was allowed to come in here and play the Orioles back in, I think, 1999. And its not like Cuba would be making a profit from this (which is why there is conflict, no trading allowed between Cuba and the United States) because Castro has declared to donate the money. ...but also, one thing that would correct it all and that would be Cuba refusing to take any money at all. Of coarse Cuba accepting the money and donating it would be better, but there is always conflict. ...I just hope this is corrected, because I would feel as if the win would be cheap because Cuba wasnt involved.
  2. Me Either!! lol go Broncos!!
  3. Yeah, though he struggled to stay in the bigs last year, Edwin Jackson is a very good pitcher, who I think, based on what I have seen, will develop into a fine pitcher in the future. Damn Dodgers!!!!! I really wanted Baez for the Mets!!!
  4. congrats YS. I was really hoping to get this, but I am not surprised considering the odds.
  5. I wouldnt count out Japan and Cuba (if they play).
  6. wow. Kind of surprising (regarding Nomar). I guess just because I had not heard the possibility of that scenario before.
  7. I think the Padres are absolutely STUPID if this is in fact true. A Wells for Roberts straight up trade is an excellent deal for them. That is unlike Kevin Towers, forces me to wonder if Boston made some other demands (prospect or 2, or cash or something like that).
  8. When will the winner be announced? I believe you said that the posting period will end at Noon but will the winner be announced soon thereafter?
  9. I was actually shocked as well. Appearantly he is a good power hitter who just happened to have a not-so-great year last year. But maybe he doesnt project to be much, not very athletic. I remember seeing him last year when the O's played the Yankees...looked like 3Mo Vaughns ..just taller. ...at the end of last year it looked like the Orioles had some good young guys in their system, notably Walter Young and the second baseman, Bernie Castro. Surprisingly, castro was let go in the offseason as well. Early in the offseason and was signed by Washington. That kid was extremely fast and looked to be a pretty good 2Bman to me.
  10. I dont think they will be trading him (but of coarse I could be wrong). But Taveras would definately fit well with the Sox. ...Back on topic here.. If the Astros were to get Huff, as mentioned before, they would have a nice little number of outfielders there. This is what I thihnk they would do: Preston Wilson/Willy Taveras in Left. Willy Tavares/Preston Wilson in Center. Aubrey Huff in Right. Lance Berkman at first. Or they could also move Huff to first and throw Berkman in left than move the Preston Wilson/Willy Tavares combo to right. But of coarse this is assuming that Bagwell wont be able to play, which he likely wont be able to do. If he is however I think Garner and the Astros might let Willy Tavares and Jeff Bagwell split time. Basically platoon Bagwell and Tavares. That would be difficult considering both are righty hitters, but one day for example you could have Wilson (Or Berkman) in Left, Taveras (Or Wilson) in Center, and Huff (Or Tavares) in Right, with Berkman (Or Huff) at first. And then the next day throw Bagwell at first, take Berkman, move him to the outfield, put him where Preston Wilson played, and move Wilson to where Tavares played or something like that. But like I said before, I would be surprised if Bagwell was healthy enough to play much first base this year. As for Lane, he was an Astros bench player for a few years prior to last year, and im sure he could easily move back into that role (not sure how he would respond however).
  11. NOt always, a friend of mine who is a Mets fan also follows the Yankees. Supports them and everything, just not when we're playing the Mets. I'm sure that many people are like that. But you are absolutely correct, as showed in the BBF poll (which I actually voted in), Mets fans are more likely to hate the Yankees than vice versa. You're crazy. Granted, he has his flaws, but what kid his age doesnt. MOst of the latin players arent very good when it comes to pitch selection. But Reyes is extremely fast (Love watching those Reyes triples), a good defensive SS, very good arm, and though not a power hitter can now and then poduce some pop in his bat. I havent heard one analyst/media personell say that they thought Reyes was a badd player. Everyone projects him to be a very good player. You may need to re-evaluate that one.
  12. I applaud that post. Very good stuff. There is no denying that his presence and the ither intangibles he provided were very important to the Sox. Hell, they were great for the Sox. BUt aside from 2003, and maybe a little but of 2004, he is just not a very good player, thats why he almost ended up in Japan. In fact I was VERY surprised that Theo got him in the midst of Florida trying to sell his contract to the Chunichi Dragons. (Who are actually a very good club, wonder what Millar would have done for them.) But that was a good move by Theo just based alone on Kevin's 2003, and the off the field intangibles he provided. Plus, I always liked Millar. I wish him good luck in Baltimore.
  13. Made more updates
  14. He hasnt done anything for the Red Sox, but im sure he didnt get that distinction while in the Braves system just sucking his thumb or bobbing for apples. Im sure he did something. Looked pretty good to me last year.
  15. wow. Looks like Embree and Bellhorn have a little something going on lol They go from Boston to New York together and then from NY to San Diego. lol Well good luck to him...definately gonna need it after last year.
  16. Glad Millar is finally signed. I think it would have been perfect for him to go to the Dodgers ..but hw should be a nice fit in Baltimore.
  17. I was thinking about this today, and i remember reading in the article that he plans on having an office there and plans to be a big part in the restuarant's operations. How could he do this any place other than Houston?? So my guess is that he will either be playing for the Astros next year or retire.
  18. lol thats what I figured. Absolutely true. That was another point I was going to make in y post, btu at the time I was in a hurry. But I think Jacob's offensive numbers will be better is he is not exclusively a power hitter (as opposed to Delgado) but can spray the ball around better.
  19. This has been the expected destination for him. Glad its finally done (so I can add it to the list lol) But seriously though, I thought it would have been CLASSIC if he signed with the Dodgers.
  20. I heard on SportsCenter when I woke up at like 3:30 this morning that Roger would be opening a restuarant in Houston. http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=15828981&BRD=1574&PAG=461&dept_id=532253&rfi=6 The Roger Clemens ROCKET Sports Grill I was supposed to go to Houston last summer for a week, but medical issues arose and I had to have two surgeries. Hopefully I can make it this summer, and if I do I certainly intend on making it to the Memorial City Mall for a chance to eat at Roger's (who most of you probably know by now is one of my heroes) Restuarant. Nothing important, just figured I would post it though. Feel free to move if it is in the wrong forum.
  21. The Yankees are talking with Jeff Nelson about bringing him in on a Minor League deal. http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1137048276290180.xml&coll=1 ..I've lways liked Nellie, going back to his time here (1996-2000, 2003) and really hope this happens. He obviously (barring some sort of catastrophe) wouldnt make the team, but I would still love to see him back here. But I would also be happy with him going somewhere he can win a spot and contribute to the bullpen.
  22. couple late signings last night that I added. One that jumped out at me was Brooks Kieschnick to the Devil Rays. He didnt have much of a season last year, but the year before, when he was with Milwaukee I believe I noticed that this guy has a pretty good arm. He can throw pretty hard. I hope he improves into a better pitcher because he has the potential to become a top reliever.
  23. glad they finally got this one done, now they can stop talking about it over on the Japanese Baseball forum I visit. But really, Shinji wasnt the guy there in terms or relievers, so i'm not sure how this will turn out. Sometimes the lesser stars over in Japan do better here, so who knows.
  24. lol, I am a Jets fan but of coarse, I have been pulling for the Giants as well. IDK, I understand everything everyone is saying, but I guess the pride of being from New York, the generations of my family and this city going back to when my great great grandfather settled in the Bronx after coming over from Napoli. I just refuse to dislike a team representing this great city. Now understand where im coming from, its not like I root for all NY State teams (As far as im concerned the Bills and Sabres mean nothing). I just see no reason to hate the other team in the city, all they're trying to do is bring a championship back to New York as well. If they were a division rival then it would be different, but the Mets arent the Red Sox. I'm sure that if the Braves were still in Boston that a lot of Red Sox fans would still follow and root for the BRaves. BEcause the way I see it the Mets are in a totally different league, and they are not the ones who are going o stop us from getting to the World Series, so no reason not to root for them. Only time I dont root for them is if there is a Subway Series (which I have only seen once in my lifetime) because then, they are standing in the way of a Yankees championship.
